• It’s a NOUN.
– So it can be a subject or object.
• Skateboarding is dangerous.
• Drinking a lot of coffee is unhealthy.
• Negative = not + (verb) –ing
– Not exercising is bad for you.
– The doctor suggested not drinking so much coffee.

–I have admitted leaving. (present perfect)

• The 2nd verb must be a gerund.
