Despite good public transit to Exchange street, the location is a bit far,
especially for those without cars. Even by car, it was 30 minutes to
Cambridge for me at rush hour — not terrible, but not great either.
Traffic lights between Exchange St. and 93 make Somerville look NICE!
(didn't try route between Pearl and 93). No strong feelings about it either
way.
Malden isn't especially exciting within itself, but 200 Exchange is. That is, if
we're going to move so far away from "home" then it needs to be someplace
amazing and special like 200 Exchange.
Great that the city sent delegates to greet us. That's very promising. The
downtown area seemed busy and like a good hub for new members /
students.
Bad rep for traffic, from what I hear.

5. COMMENTSI thought the space was pretty interesting, the location wasn't that great.
I LOVED the commercial kitchen. I think there's a lot of potential for having all of the shop spaces able to be
kept separate and possibly allow us to have under 18s for classes in a different area of the building. I do think
we'd have to knock down a lot of walls on the second floor though. It was a maze and not all of it seemed
usable.
It felt more like our kind of space. It would be easier to outfit with ventilation for the many shops that need it.
Felt like it could EASILY be a new home for AA, similar feeling space, like high ceilings and general layout.
Seems less likely to have issues w neighbors, and less likely to be priced out at next lease time. Parking less
problematic, and T access better than Tyler St.
This place is dumpy. Great location for a horror movie. Sure, it's possible to do the Asylum thing there, but it
would be a huge amount of work. Moreover, there's no there there... it's surrounded by shopping centers.
There's no community there for us to fit in with.
Bigger property, but with such a big move and spending that kind of money, wouldn't we want some
visibility? That said, and after saying this I'm sure you can guess who I am, but I can see a use for that
kitchen space. "Making" and "Baking" isn't too hard of a tie in under one roof and we could build out a
cooking program pretty easily.
Love the paint booth!
I can see how this would work for some, but I don’t feel like moving my business there would be beneficial. It
seems like a low risk, little reward type of situation and a bit isolating.

7. COMMENTSThis was a less interesting building out-of-the-box (only in that it was a very blank slate---which is a good
thing!), but the location was excellent! It's easy to imagine a lot of interaction with the community, easier
class access, and maybe even a little store front / gallery to showcase AA work.
I loved the location and the potential to have a more professional looking front. I think it's great that the city
is supportive of us, and I think we could do a lot with the space. I'm a little worried about ceiling height, but
the loading docks were amazing. Not sure what we'd do with the vault...
We could have a more mature presence here, with signage, easy opportunity for walk-ins, a nice lobby
space, good classrooms. Building it out to our needs would be more expensive than Pearl Street. Ceilings
are not high enough—doesn’t need to be everywhere, but some taller spaces would be an advantage.
Felt very cramped, low ceilings inside, crowded outside. Parking sounded like a perpetual pain point. Didn't
feel like our sort of space or neighborhood. T-Access nice, but felt like driving would suck. Seems like it
would be HARD to make a home there, and to do it would lose much of what makes AA good.
This would be a huge change for Asylum, but it would be worth it. The increases and improvements in
things like transit options, foot traffic, quality of real estate, square footage, loading dock access, and
parking options are huge pros.
It's hard to say no to a property and location like that, if we are going to leave Somerville. The access to the
T, the fact that students from the local high schools are bussed into the T station at 2pm, being able to
create whatever we want in that space, being on the 1st floor, and I can't stress this enough, having access
to good coffee!!! It's really hard to say no to those types of amenities.
Garage bays are so exciting. Potential moto/ auto shop....?
This location feels opposite in almost every way to Pearl Street. While I’m not excited about Malden as a
general location, this spot has a lot going for it. It feels like an exciting way for artisans to “grow up”.
