Term paper counseling is a one-on-one research consultation service provided by librarians to students. During these consultations, the librarian assists the student by identifying relevant information sources for their specific research need and spends at least 10 minutes presenting advice and introducing the student to relevant library resources. Term paper counseling provides individualized instruction using a tutorial method to help students beyond the limitations of general reference desk assistance or classroom bibliographic instruction. It parallels common tutoring structures to focus on immediate research needs through standalone meetings, course-related support, emergency assistance, or structured multi-session tutoring.
