1. Personal Experience with Crisis We have all experience some form of crisis in our life. Whether it
is minor or more severe, it is something that many of us can not control. A crisis can involve a
series of stressful events or one difficult point in life that effects a person's overall well–being. I had
a hard time coming up with what to write as my crisis for this assignment because when I hear the
word crisis, the first thing that comes to mind is that crisis is a very severe event such as a war
or natural disaster. As I read more in depth about the concept of crisis, I found that it does not have
to be something as serious as a war. It can simply be a point in life where you face a difficult
situation that makes you feel under...show more content...
Although some may not consider this a crisis, it was for me. This was a crisis for me because I
moved from Ghana where the culture, language, people and overall atmosphere was different. The
transition to move to a different country and learn a new culture and language was a stressful and
difficult time in my life. I felt alone and out of place because I did not have friends and when I
did, I could not understand or make a conversation with them for a long time. The phase in the crisis
cycle most relatable to my experience is phase 2 – The intensification stage. In this phase,
individuals feel a loss of internal control causing frustration, fear and anger. This stage is most
relevant to my experience because I felt frustrated and a loss of internal control. What caused this
crisis was me moving to Canada and not knowing the culture or English. I would not have
experienced the crisis if I knew English and Canadian culture. Due to my circumstances, there was
nothing I could have done to stop the crisis from happening. The behaviour of my peers and people
around me during the crisis was both positive and negative, I was bullied and felt that my class
mates were judging me for my accent

2. Personal Leadership Statement Essay
Is a leader as defined in the Merriam–Webster's Dictionary, merely one who leads– synonymous
with a boss? Or something more? I believe that a leader is much more than that and can be
defined in any number of ways. In attempting to define a leader personally, I will use both myself
and others as examples. For many years, I have been told by teachers, family, and friends that I am
a good leader. Until fairly recently, I had never truly thought about what it means to be a good leader
and just took it as a compliment. Leadership is an intangible concept which cannot be properly
outlined in a dictionary, but one which must be formed and explained only through one's own
philosophies and experiences. Perhaps the most important...show more content...
A well–researched knowledge–base is a necessity. Organization is also key to being a leader. A
leader must plan thoroughly to properly direct the group. Even though careful planning is crucial, a
leader must remain flexible when problems arise. Remaining humble is also important. Once a
leader raises her/himself above the group, s/he will lose respect and will be seen as a ruler – and not
a leader. A leader must see eye–to–eye with the group to retain an effective role. To manage the
needs of the group, a leader must be trusting enough to allow others to help. If a leader makes all
the decisions without the group's input, or does not allow the group an active role, the group
will no longer agree with the leader and will not feel valued. The leader's effectiveness and
respect form the group will the drop. The group must also trust the leader to make wise decisions.
Despite the fact that these qualities are mostly seen when leading a cause, they can be extended
to other roles of leadership. Generally, a leader will either be given a leadership role, or will create
one. For instance, I frequently volunteer at a nature center in my community. Because I possess the
leadership qualities mentioned earlier, I have become someone who people approach with questions
and for direction. In effect, I have been assigned a leadership role which I had not been

I am satisfied with what I have become; a student specializing in Physics with special interests in
experimental Condensed Matter Physics. I grew up in a very small town. A town not fully
developed; there were very few resources and not many quality schools to acquire a solid
education. I had to pass an entrance exam to get into a good school for 8th grade at a time when
most students in my town would drop out of school after 7th grade in order to search for work and
support their families.
My parents could not complete their undergraduate studies because they had to work to support their
families, but their emphasis on the importance of education, their dedication and massive effort
inspired me to search for the highest education...show more content...
Physics deals with the most fundamental concepts to understand the intricate beauties of daily
life. This led me to dedicate my undergraduate studies to Physics, in order to expand my
knowledge of the field. I enjoy studying Physics and try to keep up with different findings by
regularly reading scientific publications in Physics. During my undergraduate studies, I was
attracted towards small and compact, but very effective, technologies so my brother bought me a
few electronic devices to do some experiments with by taking apart the various components and
figuring out how they worked. To gain the essential knowledge behind these devices, I started
reading more in depth material on how the macro and micro scale properties of solid materials are
related and their applications in the scaling down of devices.
To broaden my knowledge of crystallography, electromagnetism andquantum mechanics and to
figure out the atomic–scale properties of solid materials, I opted to pursue a specialization in Solid
State Physics for my first Master's degree program from one of the well–known universities in India,
Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (MSU). After the mandatory entrance examination, I was
selected as one of the 400 candidates for a personal interview and was selected as one of 25 students
accepted as a graduate student to the Physics Department.

4. Personal Essay : My Personal Qualities
My Personal Qualities
Over the course, I have learned that all people are unique and have their own personal traits and
qualities. One person does not just simply fall into one category, but various categories. What is
beautiful about all of us is that we all have diverse personalities, traits and qualities. I have learned
that we should be proud of and embrace these unique qualities of ours.
As a perfectionist, I like to present my things beautifully and creatively, and it is clearly seen on
my collage. I appreciate beautiful things and this is why I got beauty/aesthetics as one of my
highest totals on the values survey. On my collage, I put a picture of a microscope, with the circular

I know and I have been told that I am a kind and sympathetic person, because I love to help people
and put a smile on their faces. Even when someone is being rude, I try to "kill them with kindness"
in return. I used the quote: "Beauty isn't about having a pretty face. It is about having a pretty mind,
a pretty heart, and most importantly, a beautiful soul". I chose to use this quote because I adore it
and I go by it. What matters most is in the inside, not on the outside. I think people sometimes, even
me, get too caught up and try too hard to look beautiful, but they don't focus on personality.
A) I expected to get artistic, creative and investigative as my results on surveys that I took, because
I already knew I had these traits as a part of my personality. However, the results from mylearning
styles survey were a little surprising to me. I got visual as my highest total score, while kinesthetic
and auditory were almost balanced out scores. The reason why I was a little surprised was that last
year, I took a survey to figure out my learning style, and I got both auditory and visual learner. The
results have their little differences, but that shows people do change over time. Learning styles can
be learned and strengthened.
I learned plenty of things from my results. My values–which I didn't see clearly–are now clear, and I
found out the little unique things that make up my personality. From my personality survey, I am
mostly artistic,

My Core Values
As I have grown as an adult and moved further towards success in my life, I have always
maintained a guided structure to achieve goals and tasks that challenge me. I call these my "Core
Values". This is a strict regimen or a belief system that I have instilled into my everyday practice to
complete any task that presents itself. Although not perfected, I have found this method to be quite
successful. My work ethic, responsibility, and my drive to further my education and knowledge
have never failed me. Life can seem tough and demanding on a very consistent basis, but I believe
that I have cultivated a plan to accommodate and withstand any trial

To build responsibility as a child I volunteered to take care of my family dog. Even though she was
the family's pet I took it upon myself to make sure she was properly fed, watered, and walked. My
mother was very proud of my new development as an adolescent. She became very encouraging
and would come up with other special chores around the house that I could be relied upon to
handle. To some children this would seem like a punishment, but both of my parents were so
supportive and persuasive that I looked forward to having the gained accountability. My father
instituted honesty and respect as monuments for responsibility. I of course struggled at times
with taking care of my dog, and handling some of my other chores. But my father always wanted
me to not only be honest with my parents, but also with myself. He stated that a lie would not
benefit anybody and it was disrespectful to tell a lie. He would tell me that a liar was the same as
a cheater, and nobody liked either. If I knew how to respect others and be honest, than my
responsibility would only increase. I asked why I would want added responsibility and my father
told me two things that changed my perspective completely. First, it was that responsible people
always tended to be more successful. Since I had always dreamed of growing up to be rich and
famous, I guess I could accept the added responsibility. The second thing he told me was that one

With this, I prefer to see and read information to full gain comprehension. If I forget the data, or
not clearly understand it the first time read, I have the option of reading it over. I do not always
trust myself to absorb all information the first time around. I take a lot of notes to look at. Notes
help me remember even though I may not read the again, I can refer to them in my mind after
writing them down. I am not sure if just anyone reading them would get anything out of it, but at
least I know what they mean.
I like to take my time with material, but am not always given the allotted time to do so. I also like
to keep a written list of things to do to refer to. I am comfortable with my learning style, accepted
it as my very own. I am not sure if changing it this late in life is such a good idea. I have got by this

My personal values Values are those things that are important, meaningful and valued by an
individual, a group of people, or an organization. Whether we are aware of them or not, every
individual has his or her core set of values, which consist of many different kinds of values. Each
individual's value system is different from one another because individual's values are built up
through one's life experience, environment, and family background. Values are important to us
because they reflect our personal moral standards, shape our behavior, and guide us through long
life journeys. Since we live in a highly connected society, each person's value system does not only

However, we should pay attention to our manners, utilize our communication skills; and on the
bottom line, we need to avoid intentionally hurting people. When coming across people who have
total different opinions from mine, I always act respectfully. For example, at school, we have to do
many team projects; most often, team members may come from total different cultural background,
and thus always have different opinions about the same thing. Being respectful to other students, I
am well–mannered, using appropriate language, opening to criticisms, and conducting myself
professionally. If everyone knows how to respect to others and act respectfully to each other, we will
easily to get along with each other and thus there be more happiness and less conflict in our society,
so we will make the world a better place. Second, I highly value integrity. Integrity is defined as "a
concept of consistency of actions, values, methods, measures, principles, expectations, and outcomes.
In ethics, integrity is regarded as the honesty and truthfulness or accuracy of one's actions." It
generally means not intentionally harming others, not stealing from, not cheating, or being fair to,

A person's identity is shaped by many different aspects. Family, culture, friends, personal interests

factors may have more of an influence than others and some may not have any influence at all. As a

I despise are rap and hip–hop and the clothing, attitudes, and type of speech that that type of 'music'

adrenaline. My high on life is the energy I have when I get my blood pumping, my heart
pounding, and my adrenaline raging. Most aspects of my individuality reflect that very well. I
love hard, aggressive music, and also guns, but my passion in life is extreme sports, whether it be
on a dirt bike, a bmx bike, a snowmobile, or a snowboard. I have a strong set of morals and ethics
that I have partly adopted from my parents, but some are also partly my own. My morals mostly
consist of karma (being kind, caring, helpful, truthful, and considerate to others), not littering
(especially in nature), respecting nature, keeping a clean and welcoming home, success that is
measured with happiness and not possessions, and having strong family ties. I feel that I am very
strongly rounded individual who is going to go far in life. Many people would agree with that,

As a child and even as a teenager one tends to make dreams and set goals for life. On occasion these

will spend Holidays as a family so that we may create our own family traditions, we will do
whatever is in our power to spend Holidays together, that includes not working or making other plans

This crisis had changed her "self" from within when getting away from the upsetting environment
that she was in and to be with animals that felt no pity for her. She found peace within herself and

became a part of a social change. Similarly, African Americans participated in the protests and at the
NAACP movement seeking for equality between the blacks and the whites. They had to go through
social change or a tough experience in life that made them realize that enough was enough and to
cope with their grief was through social change. Gladwell speaks on the behalf of the protesters who

rest of the African Americans were going through. Each and everyone of them had to go through
the pain which lead to a personal change for them, becoming an activist who is ready to fight for a
