  5. At the end of 2011, the Apple app store contained over 425,000 apps. The Android app store contained over 225,000 apps, and those numbers are growing daily. It is estimated by the year 2013, mobile devices will outsell their computer counterparts.
  6. Since the iPad was launched in 2010, there have been over 3 billions apps downloaded for Apples hit tablet.
  7. All this started just a few short years ago, back in June of 2008 when Steve Jobs announced the opening of the Apple app store.
  8. He described a tool called the push notification. The owner of the phone has the choice to view the notification or close it. The open rate of push notifications is 97%. When this is compared to the open rate of an opt in email marketing campaign that has an average open rate of 4%, or a direct mail campaign with an average response rate of less than 2%, anyone seriously looking to market their product or service should take notice. In addition, the reaction time to the push notification is immediate whereas the email reaction time is approximately 48 hours from the time it was sent and direct mail could take weeks.
