Q27: Difference between keyword & keyword phrase?
Ans: The keyword term is basically concerned with a one-word term, on the other
hand a keyword phrase considered as employment of two or more word-combinations.
Therefore, it is very confounded to get high ranking in account of one-word
keyword term until the one-word keyword has little online competition.
Therefore, this practice is not encouraged to employ. In order to drive more
traffic and top ranking in SERP it is recommended to employ keyword phrase.
Q28: Establish a difference between PR & SERP.
Ans: PR is Page Rank which is defined by quality inbound links from other
website or web-pages to a web page or website as well as say the importance of
that site.
SERP stands for Search Engine Result Page is the placement of the website or
web-page which is returned by search engine after a search query or attribute.

What is Cloaking SEO?

On Reporting - What Kind of Reports do you Give to your Clients?
I like numbers. So maybe I might be biased towards this question but for me,
measuring things is very important. In SEO we are always having to justify our
ROI and one of the ways you can prove it is through reporting. Generally
speaking, once a candidate comes from an agency background I would expect
reporting to be almost inbred as clients always want to justify their SEO spend.
However, I'm interested in what metrics the applicant think are important across
both search and social. I'm also keen on hearing how they usually present this
data and the frequency at which is delivered.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
On Social Media - What Kind of Things have you Done on the Social Side?
A pretty broad question as there are no right or wrong answers. Its more about
what works. This question is purposely open ended as I just want to know what
the interviewee has worked on in the past. The answer, for me is not based on
how well you know Facebook and Twitter, but simply given the opportunity, do you
have enough knowledge to be able to leverage social platforms to achieve a
particular goal.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Ques: How do I reduce costs of my paid search campaigns?
Ans: Don’t immediately answer open-ended questions that lead to answers based on
multiple assumptions. Costs of acquisition? Cost per click? You can’t answer
accurately a question that isn’t accurate itself. When in doubt, you should also
have the freedom to ask question before you release your thoughts.
Some interviewers are fond of tricky questions.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Ques: How do you manage large set of keywords (hundred thousand to millions)?
Ans : It is prerequisite to mention automatic bid tools to manage this huge paid
search campaign. But merely saying so does not mean you’re off the hook. It
helps to explain classification of keywords, grouping them according to
priorities, business objectives and target audience so that if business
strategies change, campaigns can easily be modified.
Can also mention classification of keywords according to importance such as
’high’, ’medium’ or ’low’ and those that are of secondary importance, low
performance, and those keywords that are candidates for removal.
Explaining clearly how the number of keywords grew tremendously by stating
methodologies for keyword research, usage of match types, negative keywords and
describing timing phases helps, too.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Ques: If we rank high on our brand terms in organic results, do we need to rank
well on paid search?
Ans: Yes, you may need to rank well on paid search even if you have high
rankings within your organic search keywords. That’s because ranking high on
organic search, even for your selected terms does not mean automatic success in
achieving your business goals. If the ROI for paid search campaign is better
than the organic search campaign, it makes more sense to do so. Also, paid
search ads on top reinforce the presence of top organic search results. They
make your brands/products/services look more credible.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Ques: What is Quality Score and how does it affect your work as paid search
specialist?
Ans: State the definition of Quality Score without being too bookish. It’s
important to understand what it is, rather than remembering what it literally
means.
Quality Score’s a part of Google’s way of determining ranking of AdWords ads.
This can be achieved by, among others, improving relevance between ad copies and
keywords, improving quality of landing pages. By obtaining high quality score
for my keywords, I can reduce expenses for my PPC campaigns.
Reducing operating costs is what clients have in mind, right?
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Ques: What is the difference between search engine marketing and Internet
marketing?
Ans: Search Engine Marketing is specific to marketing your
brand/service/products through search engines. It can be in the form of organic
search results where landing pages are aimed for higher ranking, or in paid
search results, where ads are aimed to display at maximum exposure for targeted
keywords at minimal cost possible.
Internet marketing covers a broader range of channels. It includes search engine
marketing, email marketing / EDM, social media, and so on.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Ques: What SEO tools do you regularly use?
Ans: I primarily use Google Analytics. Apart from that some of the tools that I
use are;
Keyword Analysis Tools / Keyword Research Tools (DP keyword suggestion tool &
Google Keyword Suggestion Tool are popular)
Keyword Density Tools
Index Checking
Backlink Checking
HTML validation Tools (W3C HTML Validation Service ’ validator.w3.org/ )
Google Pagerank CHecker (Google Toolbar)
Google Webmasters Tool (along with Yahoo Webmasters Tool)
XML Sitemap Generator
Search Engine Submitters (IBP is good)
If you have a limited budget, Google webmaster tools, Google Analytics and SEO
for Firefox should be sufficient. If you are using a CMS like WordPress, they
come with a whole lot of SEO Plugins that are completely Free.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Ques : Is Using Software to Submit Content Good for SEO?
Ans: Software that provides submission to directories should include features
that submit materials via recognized SEO methods that are permitted by the
search engines. Therefore, for SEO article submission to be safe and secure, it
needs to mimic human behavior. Otherwise, the submission will be considered
spam, and the material will be barred, which, of course, defeats the purpose of
SEO. While using software can save you are great deal with respect to cost and
time, you must make sure that it scrupulously adheres to SEO guidelines.
Therefore, in most instances, it’s best to place your article manually at a
site, which ensures the natural building of links ’ organic connections that add
to the credibility of the articles you write and bill you as an expert as well.
In no way do you want your content to be regarded as spam. So, to play it safe,
it’s best to practice manual submissions to build trust and maintain your search
engine rankings.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Ques: How to Get SEO Projects?
Ans: Become a member of various freelance websites like elance, odesk,
allfreelance.com, getafreelancer.com, project4hire.com etc.
Besides online freelancer sites as mentioned above, participate in various SEO
Forums like Sitepoint, Digitalpoint etc and offer your valuable inputs on
various threads.
You can also offer/advertise your services on various webmaster forums like
sitepoint, warrior forums, digitalpoint etc.
Lastly, visit some small websites and analyze their website Meta tags in order
to determine if they have already hired someone. If not, get back to them saying
you would perform minimal SEO for free and if they are happy you can do Advanced
SEO and link Building etc for a low price and increase their Web Traffic an
Online Presence.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Ques : What methods would you apply for decreasing the loading time of a
website?
Ans : I would use external style sheets, less images (unless necessary),
optimize the images and decrease the file sizes of the image without reducing
the quality of the image, use CSS sprites to reduce HTTP requests etc.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Ques : How will you treat Web standards while optimizing a website?
Ans : Google loves web standards hence I will apply the web standards provided
by W3C while optimizing a web site.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Ques : Explain the importance of domain name?
Ans: Domain name although the Age of Domain matters, search engines do not favor
older and established sites with no recently updated content, it is better to
have the content separated and have a different domain preferably with the
keywords in it) for different niches.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Ques : Is Domain Extension ( .com, .net, .org, .in ) Has any effect on ranking
of website on search engine ? or they don't have any role in SEO of website?
Ans: Search engines aren't really biased with domain extensions since these are
just to tell the search engines as to which category the URL belongs. But using
country specific domains (that carry regional meaning) can help you rank high in
that particular country.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Ques : Why Should I hire You ?
Ans: Why should you hire me, there is two reason, 1st one is that my
qualification is match to this job profile and second one is that as you know I
am fresher I have not any experience but I have knowledge as well as I am
responsible person so you should give me one chance to prove my self thanks.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Which of the following can be termed as a good keyword selection and placement
strategies?
Ans: Ans: a. targeting synonyms of the main keyword
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Ques: How would you describe your current marketing strategy?
Ans: Similarly, companies employ a vast array of marketing strategies, from
solely SEO to PPC, content marketing, and social media outreach. If your
client’s dead-set on using PPC, but you can’t tell your CPCs from your CPMs, do
everyone a favor and pass on the opportunity. Poorly executed projects’no matter
how good your intentions are’will only damage your company’s reputation.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Ques: How is your website structured?
Ans: These days, website structures range from HTML pages to sites that use
popular CMS platforms to custom coded, script-based systems. Given all this
variety, it’s nearly impossible to attain expert-level proficiency in every web
technology, meaning that clients making use of platforms that aren’t your
strongest suit may not be the right fit for your agency. Determining this before
drawing up a contract will save both you and your prospective clients plenty of
time!
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Q: What does the Submission Process Actually Do?
Ans: The SUBMISSION programs send your web site address, "URL" to search engines
and links using what is referred to as add-a-URL strings. After receiving the
URL, engines use a "spider" to then parses through the HTML code looking for
tags that begin with "<a href=". After the entire page has been parsed, a small
"Web BOT" travels the links it found, searching for more links using the same
procedure until all of the pages at that URL address have been found.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Ques : Q: Is there something wrong with multiple images per page, or is one the
minimum?
Ans: In the Google SEO Guide, they say 'optimize the use of images.' What they
are saying is use the ALT attribute (and put keywords in there) to TELL Google
what this is a picture of. So a great SEO page has keywords -
TITLE tag - has keywords in it, but has some pizazz / snap to it, pithy so it
'gets the click.'
META DESCRIPTION tag - has keywords in it, <155 characters, pizazz (how do you
spell that?)...
H1, header tag - A HREF, etc., some of the high priority tags
GOOD keyword density.
Now, let's talk about images. ** IF ** Google sees AT LEAST one image with the
KEYWORDS in the ALT attribute this is a POWERFUL signal that this page is very
focused on that keyword phrase. So I recommend at least ONE image per page that
REINFORCES the TITLE tag.
Beyond one? Perhaps two... but you can OVER DO it. That's called KEYWORD
STUFFING and is bad in terms of SEO. If a page is TOO PERFECT, TOO OPTIMIZED,
TOO DENSE... it will be deprecated. So don't OVERDO is. Don't UNDERDO it. I
recommend one image, but not more than three... Three is even pushing it. But at
least one.
That's why it's the ART of SEO as much as the SCIENCE of SEO.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Ques : Where do you put company names in TITLE tags for SEO?
Ans: Title tags are incredibly important to search engine optimization, so you
are right to spend a lot of thought power on how to write your title tags.
Generally speaking, it is easy to be number one for your company name, so
therefore either do not include your company name on many of your title tags or
put the company name in the far right position. Reserve the most powerful
positions, which are those on the left, for your target keywords.
Also realize that the title tag becomes the headline on Google. So in less you
have a really strong brand like Motorola ot GEICO, then you want the reader to
see the keywords first, which is more engaging. That is another reason to put
the keywords towards the left of the title tag for search engine optimization
purposes.
As for the second part of your question I an adverse to 'commas.' I have a hunch
that Google deprecates comments so I prefer to use the pipe character (|).
Regardless, try to write your title tags as if they are complete sentences or at
least read like bulleted lists and avoid comma comma comma phrases, as that is a
dead giveaway to Google that you are over optimizing the content!
Hope this helps!

THE TOP FIVE SEO MISTAKES ACCORDING TO GOOGLE’S MATT CUTTS
In a recently published video, Matt Cutts, Google’s head of search spam, listed
off the top five SEO mistakes webmasters make.
Matt said these are not the most devastating mistakes, but rather, the most
common mistakes.(1) Not having a website or having a website that is not
crawlable is the biggest mistake he sees.(2) Not including the right words on
the page. The example Matt gave is: don’t just write, ’Mt. Everest Height’ but
write, ’How high is Mt. Everest?’ because that is how people search.(3) Don’t
think about link building, think about compelling content and marketing.(4)
Don’t forget to think about the title and description of your most important
pages.(5) Not using webmaster resources and learning about how Google works and
what SEO is about.

HOW DO I ADD MY SITE TO GOOGLE'S SEARCH RESULTS?
Learn how to make your site available to appear in Google products.Inclusion in
Google's search results is free and easy; you don't even need to submit your
site to Google. Google is a fully automated search engine that uses software
known as "spiders" to crawl the web on a regular basis and find sites to add to
our index. In fact, the vast majority of sites listed in our results aren't
manually submitted for inclusion, but found and added automatically when our
spiders crawl...
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Ques : With all the different search engines, which ones should I be optimizing
for, and which are searched the most often?
Ans: The 4 most popular search engines by far are: Google, Yahoo, MSN/Live, &
Ask They comprise over 90% of all searches online.
I believe Google is getting around 60-65% of all searches, making it the most
important by far to be optimizing for, and that number is just increasing. With
all the algorithm changes, and dynamics happening between the different engines,
I don’t know of many SEO’s that are specifically targeting one engine or
another. If anything, targeting Google is the most common. So many of the
principals are the same with all the engines. You should really just be
following a set of SEO best practices, and not necessarily focusing on one or
the other in my opinion.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Ques: How can I find out how much traffic my competitor is receiving?
Ans: There isn’t a clearly defined way of doing this. There are a few tools out
there that will give you a rough estimate, but many aren’t accurate, or don’t
provide enough data.
But if you can’t resist checking anyway, try using compete.com, or alexa.com.
For larger sites, you can also use comscore.com, and hitwise.com
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Ques : Does it matter if I use Bold or Italics in my website’s copy? ’
Ans: It depends on who you ask.
My short answer is no. It doesn’t play a significant role in your ranking. There
may be a small shred of evidence to show that SE’s place some value on the
bolded words, but not the italicized ones.
If you start bolding your keywords all the time on every page, it’s going to
make for a pretty bad user experience. I would just concentrate on your titles
and subtitles (h1,h2, etc.). Those are generally accepted as the most important
part of copy optimization.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Ques What is EMD?
Ans: Exact match domain is when a keyphrase is in the domain name in an attempt
to rank better. Select one that’s right for you not Google.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Ques: Is HTTPS bad for SEO?
Ans: No it is not but try to avoid the trap of your site being duplicated in
HTTP and HTTPS.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Ques: When do the Submission appear on the engines? - SEO
Ans: - Engine and the directory structure for the website are different and it
allows the submission to be done using the engine only.
- The submission can take time or it is required to have the instances of the
web site to be listed on the search engines.
- Submission can only appear on the engines if it is submitted correctly and it
provides better visibility of the request.
- The engines can be added according to the submissions that are taking place
and the calculative chances with the sources.
- The engines and directories are put in a queue and add the chance to check the
site for the content that is being used.

LATENT SEMANTIC INDEXING: MORE IMPORTANT NOW THAN EVER BEFORE
Due to the continual evolution of algorithms, SEO is constantly changing. One
aspect that is more important now than ever before is the use of relevant
phrases in content, commonly referred to as latent semantic indexing (LSI). This
term refers to layering article content with multiple keywords rather than
simply focusing on one.
The benefits of LSI
and how it works
Perhaps the biggest benefit of LSI is the increase in traffic you can experience
from employing this technique. While it’s possible to get a considerable amount
of traffic from only one keyword, it only makes sense that you should get more
from multiple keywords. In most cases, there will be one or two primary keywords
used in an LSI article that have a normal keyword density ranging from two to
three percent. However, there will often be up to 25 more keywords that are
relevant but with a lower keyword density.
Say ’Honolulu injury attorney’ is your primary keyword phrase on the home page
of your law firm’s website. If you want to use LSI to bolster your SEO
campaign’s success, you would sprinkle phrases like ’injury lawyer’ and ’Hawaii
attorney’ in the rest of the copy on that page of your website. You can then
expect to get traffic for multiple search terms instead of just one or two
because you now have a larger variety of keywords within your content. Besides
this, LSI is a great alternative to loading articles with anchor text. Since
Google now penalizes websites with spammy anchor text, LSI should help your site
rank for multiple keywords without causing your rankings to drop.
LSI is also advantageous because it creates an opportunity to reach a wider
audience. Even if someone isn’t necessarily interested in the content of your
primary keyword, he might might be intrigued by the alternate keywords. This
means that your website will have more value and an overall better appeal. You
should eventually be able to build a bigger audience for your website or blog,
hopefully making it easier to land more clients for your law firm.

7 Questions To Expect From Your New PPC Manager
So, you’ve taken the plunge and hired a new PPCmanager. Maybe you’ve decided to
hire a PPC agency, or maybe you’re keeping PPC in-house but want someone to
manage your program full time. Either way, congratulations on the new hire!
You’ll no doubt expect your new PPC manager to dokeyword research, set up ad
copy tests, manage bids, and track conversions. But PPC management goes way
beyond keywords & ad copy. Here are seven questions to expect from your new PPC
manager.
What are Your Goals for PPC?
The first thing your PPC manager should do, before he or she even logs into
AdWords, is talk to you about your goals. A PPC campaign without goals is like
traveling to a new city without a map. How will you find your way if you don’t
know where you’re going?
Expect your new manager to ask specific questions about sales goals, cost per
conversion targets, and overall business goals.
What are Your Key Products and Services?
If you’ve hired someone from within, they probably already know the answer to
this question. Everyone else needs to ask it.
Even if your goal is just to use PPC to increase overall sales, it’s invaluable
to know which products or services are your ’must-haves.’ This info is critical
for prioritization, especially if you run low on budget and your PPC manager has
to dial back your spend.
Who is Your Primary Target Audience?
Even your from-within hire should ask this question. Not only is it important
for overall marketing strategy, it can also drive PPC tactics such as engine
placement, geotargeting, and ad messaging.
For example, if your goal is to generate awareness of a new product targeted to
women age 35-54, you might want to focus on Facebook ads. You’ll get zillions of
impressions, and they’ll all be delivered to your target audience. If your goal
is to reach business decision makers, you should try Bing ’ it works very well
for B2B at a fraction of the cost of Google.
Are There any Specific Offers You’d Like to Promote?
Not all PPC is offer/promotion-based. But it’s still good to know what
promotions and offers are out there so you can test them in PPC.
PPC is a great way to vet marketing messaging and get immediate response data
without spending a lot of money on creative and traditional media.
You can use PPC to test offers and concepts before rolling it out to display and
print. It’s an efficient way to see what resonates with the audience and avoid
sinking money into messaging that doesn’t get attention.
What is Your Desired Cost per Conversion?
While this question is related to the goals question, it needs to be asked on
its own. I’ve lost count of how many clients I’ve worked with over the years who
have no idea how much they’re willing to pay to acquire a customer.
Sure, it’s possible to run PPC campaigns without a target CPA in mind ’ we’ll
just try to get the lowest possible cost per conversion. But if you have even a
ballpark number in mind, share it with your PPC manager!
I once had a client in a competitive vertical with CPCs upwards of $5/click. We
were getting CPAs of around $15, and I was pretty happy with that. Turns out the
client didn’t want to pay more than $5 per lead! We would have had to convert
every visitor in that situation.
Get these thoughts out in the open before your campaign launches ’ you’ll both
sleep better at night.
What Conversions are you Measuring, and How are You Measuring Them?
This is another question that a surprising number of advertisers answer with ’I
don’t know’ and ’we’re not.’ If those are your responses, that’s OK. Your PPC
manager can help you. But identifying key website conversion actions and setting
up a way to track them will be their first order of business, before they even
log in to AdWords.
If you're tracking conversions, that’s great! If you have more than one
conversion you’re tracking, take things one step further and make sure your PPC
manager knows the priority of each conversion.
If you’re in ecommerce, online sales will probably be your number one
conversion; but you might also be interested in email signups, contact form
submissions, phone calls, and other actions. Knowing the importance of each
conversion will help your PPC manager optimize campaigns accordingly.
What’s a Good Time to Hold a Recurring Meeting?
Nobody wants more meetings. But regular communication with your PPC manager is
crucial, whether the manager is in-house or at an agency.
Meetings don’t have to be in-person; I have 30-minute monthly calls with several
of my clients, and we rarely cancel. That’s because the clients know that we’ll
discuss progress toward their business goals, how well we’re reaching their
target audience, promotional offer results, cost per conversion, and conversions
by type.
Sound familiar? It should! We discuss all the questions I’ve outlined here. And
we talk about other things too; but the primary agenda is usually the first six
questions in this post.
Even if your PPC manager isn’t new, it’s a good idea to revisit these questions
with them. You’ll be glad you did.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Q10. What is keyword stemming ?
Ans. keyword stemming is the process of finding out the root word from the
search query..
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Q20. How many SEO techniques do you know ?
Ans. 1)Black hat seo
2)White hat seo
3)Gray hat seo
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Q27: Difference between keyword & keyword phrase?
Ans: The keyword term is basically concerned with a one-word term, on the other
hand a keyword phrase considered as employment of two or more word-combinations.
Therefore, it is very confounded to get high ranking in account of one-word
keyword term until the one-word keyword has little online competition.
Therefore, this practice is not encouraged to employ. In order to drive more
traffic and top ranking in SERP it is recommended to employ keyword phrase.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
12)What is the meaning of competitive analysis?
Ans: Competitive analysis, as its name suggested it is establishment of a
comparison of data between the website I am optimizing and that website who rank
highly in search results. It will be a great source of idea.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
14)Can you tell me about Frames in HTML?
Ans: Frames in HTML are obvious as they used to discriminate the page content
into distinct fragments. Search engines treat these frames as absolutely
different pages as well as frames also put an negative impact over SEO.
Therefore, we should avoid the practice of using Frames and implement basic HTML
instead.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
16)What do you know about Keyword stemming?
Ans: It is the practice to find out root word from search query. For instance, a
keyword like ’playful’ will be split to the word ’play’ by stemming algorithm
that turns it possible. Thus, the search result appear on the screen will
contain the word ’play’ in it.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
18)What mistakes you should avoid while optimizing the website?
Ans: The main mistakes that should be avoided are filling keywords in Web-Page,
employing identical anchor text for link building, keyword stuffing, getting low
quality backlinks etc.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
What’s your number one rule with SEO? More than any other question, this one
will reveal your candidate’s basic philosophy and approach to SEO. It will also
give you some idea of how experienced they are. As your candidate answers this
question, whether they’re white hat, black hat, or somewhere in between, ask
yourself if you can work with someone with that approach. Are they the right fit
for your business?
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
What are your go to SEO tools? Nearly everyone uses tools of some kind in the
SEO industry. Many are quite high profile and very popular; these include
SEOMoz, Citatation Labs Link Prospector, Majestic SEO, and Raven Tools. Here,
though, you’re not concerned with which tools your candidate SEO uses as much as
how they’re used, and for what sorts of tasks. Used correctly, tools can speed
up the process of SEO in a variety of ways; they’re a boon to research. But
they’re not absolutely necessary.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
How do you carry out competitive analysis of keywords/SERPs as part of the
keyword research process? Since keyword research is almost always the first and
most important step for any SEO or SEM campaign, your SEO candidate should be
able to tell you the process they use in detail ’ and it better be good.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Have you ever outsourced SEO work? Give me one example. SEO and SEM have grown
complicated over the years. In addition to ordinary on-site optimization,
there’s link building, pay-per-click campaigns, display ads, social media
aspects, content creation, and more. That’s a lot of different pieces, and rare
is the person who can do it all. Sometimes it’s necessary to outsource some
details of a full-fledged online marketing campaign. Your SEO candidate’s answer
to this question will tell you how well she can manage the whole circus.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
What are effective metrics for tracking return on investment for SEO? The right
answer to this question depends in part on what you’re trying to achieve with
your website; if you’re an online publisher, increasing traffic may be important
than increasing revenue. Listen for your SEO candidate to use words like organic
revenue, organic traffic, number of organic keywords, average order value, and
conversion rate.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Question 1
’You are A/B testing two different ad creatives . . . here are their impressions
and clicks. Imagine on your first day, I tell you to optimize the campaign of 50
keywords, what do you do?’
Better yet, put data in front of them from a small Adwords account and just ask
a simple, ’What do you do?’
While this isn’t natural search specific, its an easily understood simplistic
pre-Algebra problem. The (insufficient) math-only answer is to calculate CTR and
declare a winner (per EricM above).
Years of schooling have trained us to identify a math problem, calculate the
answer and move on to the next problem. This is the wrong approach and yields
the wrong answer.
What I’m really looking for is some holistic, out of the box thinking that is
driven by a business orientation and technical experience.
The right answers (yes plural answers) include:
Consideration of sample size and confidence intervals.
Looking downstream for differences in conversions in the creative.
How can I further segment the 50 keywords to get more granular groups.
For anyone with any PPC in their background, I’d expect some discussion around
Quality Scores and landing page optimization testing.
Question 2
’In the above example, calculate the ROI of Ad A.’
This is a great, albeit obvious test for business orientation. The engineer who
can get this question is surprisingly rare, but amazingly valuable. A ’marketing
person’ who can’t come up with the basic formula isn’t going anywhere.
Also note that the data I’ve provide the candidate so far doesn’t include
anything around revenue or costs. I’m looking for the candidate who will quickly
ID those missing elements, then put them together.
Question 3
’How would I use an analytics package to track reservations made on Urbanspoon?’
I’m looking for an understanding of how conversion tracking works ’ ideally
within a large analytics package, like GA or Omniture.
Question 4
’According to Comscore, Company XXXX seems to been outpacing our growth in
search over the past 12 months, why do you think that’s the case?’
I’m looking for answers that utilize some of the paid or unpaid tools on the
market. I’d expect someone to recommend doing a comparative link evaluation
using tools from Majestic, SeoMOZ, Raven or even something free like Blekko.
This is a great time to let the candidate actually log on to a tool and walk you
through how they use it. Having a Majestic account is very different from being
able to use one; in the same way that having a gym membership has not slowed the
progression of my increasingly soft midsection.
Question 5
’Tell me about Caffeine or May Day.’
I’m not looking for my favorite beverage or descriptions of young girls dancing
with ribbons. These are two named algo updates from 2009/2010 and familiarity
with them indicates some duration of hands-on search. If you are looking for
someone with serious longevity, ask about the Google Dance.
Question 6
’Here is an excel file with data for all of the 600,000 restaurants in the
United States from Urbanspoon. Turn this file into a list of cities with more
than 1,000 restaurants.’
The answer involves pivot tables and should take about 1-3 minutes.
Question 7
’Now, imagine we purchase a list of restaurant emails and want to append our
huge database with those emails ’ how would we go about doing this?’
The answer involves a VLookup, which can be persnickety and tedious ’ fair to
assume if they know the answer, they can work through the actual implementation.
Question 8
’We’re testing television advertising to evaluate our ability to extend our
brand from a directory to a reservations destination. How would you evaluate the
ROI of this?’
This question requires a fairly complex answer and I’m looking for nuances that
include:
What is your business objective?
How is the test set up . . . what is the control I’m comparing this to?
Some concept around lift and then extended lift (this is more of a branding
answer, but ties into the notion of multiple touch points instead of focusing
entirely on last click attribution ’ which is a very common mindset.)
Search bonus for looking for lift uptick in branded search as well as direct
traffic.
Question 9
’How can we rank better for ’Romantic Italian Restaurants in Redmond’ ’ here’s
the page, but it ranks on the second page for that term.’ (Assume said page has
standard on page optimization in place.)
This is a red herring question - what I really want is for someone to tell me
something along the lines of:
’ranking reports are a waste of time and here’s why’
’you should look at the inbound search traffic instead of the ranking report for
a specific term’
’this is a long tail term, if you spend time chasing every long tail term,
you’ll miss the forest for the trees.’
Question 10
At some point, I’m going to dig really deep on something where I have a lot of
experience (say local or news search) where I know the candidate is going to hit
the ceiling of her knowledge.
In this case, the right answer is, ’I don’t know.’ There’s a lot of changes in
search, making it impossible to know everything. Being able to tell your
interviewer (or boss) ’I don’t know’ is very important. There are already enough
people trying to BS their way through the search industry and I don’t want them
working for me.
Conversely, (and just as importantly) I want the candidate to enlighten me. A
great candidate should be able to teach me something.
If all else fails to draw this out, try: ’Tell me something I don’t know about
search.’ The close cousin of the tell me something question is forward looking:
’what is the next big thing we should be thinking about?’ or ’My CEO is all
atwitter about Pintrest, how should this play into our search strategy?’
Question 11
’Tell me what you know about me.’
This isn’t a narcissistic probing into my favorite topic; but I’m really asking
to see if a) the candidate has done any preparation and b) if the candidate is
social. The integration of social into search makes this question increasingly
relevant, especially for smaller entrepreneurial companies that may not have a
’social’ department or dedicated function.
Smart candidates avoid this question by dropping hints about the interviewer’s
background during the interview: ’I saw you played rugby’, ’lived in Ireland’,
’have kids’ to let the interviewer know they’ve done some research. This can
also take the form of, ’In the New York times article last week about
Urbanspoon’’
Question 12
Finally, the best question in any interview is a series of ’whys’. I interrupt
repeatedly with why.
Why? Because it challenges statements. Why? Because some candidates try to gloss
over hard questions with assumptions. Why? Frequently, I find explaining
assumptions leads to discussions on fascinating tangents. Why? Because their
experience is very different to mine and I want to know what they’ll bring to
the table.
Onerous interview process? Uncomfortable? Maybe. But, I’d much rather have a
tough hour long interview than a tough month or two or six with a poor fit. And
let’s be honest, anyone worth his or her salt is going to have to answer much
harder, on the spot questions across the organization every week.

7- How will you solve canonicalization issue or what is .htacess file?
.htacess file is used to solve the canonicalization issue of a website. It may
happen that the home page of the site may take several urls like
http://www.example.com or http://www.example.com/index.html or
http://example.com . The search engines might treat these url as different and
may divide the link juice gained by having various backlinks made with any of
these 3 urls. The link juice gets divided between these three urls equally.
.htacess file is created to have a single url of the home page so that the link
juice is passed onto single url.

After the recent EMD update, the weightage on the presence of keyword on a
domain has reduced. It is therefore important to go for a domain name that can
focus on building a brand rather than using only keywords which could make a
domain look spammy. Although having keywords in the domain helps but it would
work only if the combination comes out as brandable. Some popular examples of
website which succeded without having keywords in it are flipkart.com,
myntra.com, ebay.com, digg.com, reddit.com and ofcoz google.com etc. But, there
are some themes where the presence of keywords becomes necessary like the

update?
Penguin update deals with scanning through the link profile of a website. I will
scan the links pointing to the site using tools like ahrefs and prepare a list
of low quality links. I will make every effort to get those links removed like
emailing the webmaster. If somehow, I am unable to remove some links then I will
use the disavow links tool to devalue the remaining links from harming the site.
Apart from this, I will plan a link bait strategy to get some high authority
links in order to increase the reputation of the site. This will surely help a
site to recover from the effects of the Penguin update.

There are virtually no limits on the number of keywords that we can target on a
web page. Best approach is to focus on our main keyword and all the secondary
keywords would find way for itself in the search engines. The old method of
targeting 3 keywords per web page does not works any more. You can have 10-15
keywords or even more to target on a single web page.
56- What is the difference between soft 404 and 404 errors? How will you find
and remove these errors?
A 404 error is returned when the browser requests a resource from the web server
and the server is unable to find that resource so it returns 404 file not found
error. On the other hand, soft 404 error is returned when the browser requests a
resource from the web server and the server returns 200 OK response for a file
that does not exist on the server. Hence, in both the cases, file is not present
on the server but in case of soft 404 the server returns 200 OK response code by
mistake. We can find out these errors with the help of Google Webmasters Tool
and we can either remove them by adding proper redirects and by creating a
custom 404 page for helping the user in proper navigation while browsing the
site.

I like numbers. So maybe I might be biased towards this question but for me, measuring things is very important. In SEO we are always having to justify our ROI and one of the ways you can prove it is through reporting. Generally speaking, once a candidate comes from an agency background I would expect reporting to be almost inbred as clients always want to justify their SEO spend. However, I'm interested in what metrics the applicant think are important across both search and social. I'm also keen on hearing how they usually present this data and the frequency at which is delivered. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ On Social Media - What Kind of Things have you Done on the Social Side? A pretty broad question as there are no right or wrong answers. Its more about what works. This question is purposely open ended as I just want to know what the interviewee has worked on in the past. The answer, for me is not based on how well you know Facebook and Twitter, but simply given the opportunity, do you have enough knowledge to be able to leverage social platforms to achieve a particular goal. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Come Work At WordStream! • 3. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Q.What is mouse trapping? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Q: What is spider? @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ what is reason of site Impressions get down??? @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Ques: How do I reduce costs of my paid search campaigns? Ans: Don’t immediately answer open-ended questions that lead to answers based on multiple assumptions. Costs of acquisition? Cost per click? You can’t answer accurately a question that isn’t accurate itself. When in doubt, you should also have the freedom to ask question before you release your thoughts. Some interviewers are fond of tricky questions. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Ques: How do you manage large set of keywords (hundred thousand to millions)? Ans : It is prerequisite to mention automatic bid tools to manage this huge paid search campaign. But merely saying so does not mean you’re off the hook. It helps to explain classification of keywords, grouping them according to priorities, business objectives and target audience so that if business strategies change, campaigns can easily be modified. Can also mention classification of keywords according to importance such as ’high’, ’medium’ or ’low’ and those that are of secondary importance, low performance, and those keywords that are candidates for removal. Explaining clearly how the number of keywords grew tremendously by stating methodologies for keyword research, usage of match types, negative keywords and describing timing phases helps, too. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Ques: If we rank high on our brand terms in organic results, do we need to rank well on paid search? Ans: Yes, you may need to rank well on paid search even if you have high rankings within your organic search keywords. That’s because ranking high on organic search, even for your selected terms does not mean automatic success in achieving your business goals. If the ROI for paid search campaign is better than the organic search campaign, it makes more sense to do so. Also, paid search ads on top reinforce the presence of top organic search results. They make your brands/products/services look more credible. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Ques: What is Quality Score and how does it affect your work as paid search specialist? Ans: State the definition of Quality Score without being too bookish. It’s important to understand what it is, rather than remembering what it literally means. Quality Score’s a part of Google’s way of determining ranking of AdWords ads. This can be achieved by, among others, improving relevance between ad copies and keywords, improving quality of landing pages. By obtaining high quality score for my keywords, I can reduce expenses for my PPC campaigns. Reducing operating costs is what clients have in mind, right?
  • 4. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Ques: What is the difference between search engine marketing and Internet marketing? Ans: Search Engine Marketing is specific to marketing your brand/service/products through search engines. It can be in the form of organic search results where landing pages are aimed for higher ranking, or in paid search results, where ads are aimed to display at maximum exposure for targeted keywords at minimal cost possible. Internet marketing covers a broader range of channels. It includes search engine marketing, email marketing / EDM, social media, and so on. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Ques: What SEO tools do you regularly use? Ans: I primarily use Google Analytics. Apart from that some of the tools that I use are; Keyword Analysis Tools / Keyword Research Tools (DP keyword suggestion tool & Google Keyword Suggestion Tool are popular) Keyword Density Tools Index Checking Backlink Checking HTML validation Tools (W3C HTML Validation Service ’ validator.w3.org/ ) Google Pagerank CHecker (Google Toolbar) Google Webmasters Tool (along with Yahoo Webmasters Tool) XML Sitemap Generator Search Engine Submitters (IBP is good) If you have a limited budget, Google webmaster tools, Google Analytics and SEO for Firefox should be sufficient. If you are using a CMS like WordPress, they come with a whole lot of SEO Plugins that are completely Free. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Ques : Is Using Software to Submit Content Good for SEO? Ans: Software that provides submission to directories should include features that submit materials via recognized SEO methods that are permitted by the search engines. Therefore, for SEO article submission to be safe and secure, it needs to mimic human behavior. Otherwise, the submission will be considered spam, and the material will be barred, which, of course, defeats the purpose of SEO. While using software can save you are great deal with respect to cost and time, you must make sure that it scrupulously adheres to SEO guidelines. Therefore, in most instances, it’s best to place your article manually at a site, which ensures the natural building of links ’ organic connections that add to the credibility of the articles you write and bill you as an expert as well. In no way do you want your content to be regarded as spam. So, to play it safe, it’s best to practice manual submissions to build trust and maintain your search engine rankings. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Ques: How to Get SEO Projects? Ans: Become a member of various freelance websites like elance, odesk, allfreelance.com, getafreelancer.com, project4hire.com etc. Besides online freelancer sites as mentioned above, participate in various SEO Forums like Sitepoint, Digitalpoint etc and offer your valuable inputs on various threads.
  • 5. You can also offer/advertise your services on various webmaster forums like sitepoint, warrior forums, digitalpoint etc. Lastly, visit some small websites and analyze their website Meta tags in order to determine if they have already hired someone. If not, get back to them saying you would perform minimal SEO for free and if they are happy you can do Advanced SEO and link Building etc for a low price and increase their Web Traffic an Online Presence. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Ques : What methods would you apply for decreasing the loading time of a website? Ans : I would use external style sheets, less images (unless necessary), optimize the images and decrease the file sizes of the image without reducing the quality of the image, use CSS sprites to reduce HTTP requests etc. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Ques : How will you treat Web standards while optimizing a website? Ans : Google loves web standards hence I will apply the web standards provided by W3C while optimizing a web site. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Ques : Explain the importance of domain name? Ans: Domain name although the Age of Domain matters, search engines do not favor older and established sites with no recently updated content, it is better to have the content separated and have a different domain preferably with the keywords in it) for different niches. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Ques : Is Domain Extension ( .com, .net, .org, .in ) Has any effect on ranking of website on search engine ? or they don't have any role in SEO of website? Ans: Search engines aren't really biased with domain extensions since these are just to tell the search engines as to which category the URL belongs. But using country specific domains (that carry regional meaning) can help you rank high in that particular country. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Ques : Why Should I hire You ? Ans: Why should you hire me, there is two reason, 1st one is that my qualification is match to this job profile and second one is that as you know I am fresher I have not any experience but I have knowledge as well as I am responsible person so you should give me one chance to prove my self thanks. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Which of the following can be termed as a good keyword selection and placement strategies? Ans: Ans: a. targeting synonyms of the main keyword @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Ques: How would you describe your current marketing strategy?
  • 6. Ans: Similarly, companies employ a vast array of marketing strategies, from solely SEO to PPC, content marketing, and social media outreach. If your client’s dead-set on using PPC, but you can’t tell your CPCs from your CPMs, do everyone a favor and pass on the opportunity. Poorly executed projects’no matter how good your intentions are’will only damage your company’s reputation. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Ques: How is your website structured? Ans: These days, website structures range from HTML pages to sites that use popular CMS platforms to custom coded, script-based systems. Given all this variety, it’s nearly impossible to attain expert-level proficiency in every web technology, meaning that clients making use of platforms that aren’t your strongest suit may not be the right fit for your agency. Determining this before drawing up a contract will save both you and your prospective clients plenty of time! @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Q: What does the Submission Process Actually Do? Ans: The SUBMISSION programs send your web site address, "URL" to search engines and links using what is referred to as add-a-URL strings. After receiving the URL, engines use a "spider" to then parses through the HTML code looking for tags that begin with "<a href=". After the entire page has been parsed, a small "Web BOT" travels the links it found, searching for more links using the same procedure until all of the pages at that URL address have been found. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Ques : Q: Is there something wrong with multiple images per page, or is one the minimum? Ans: In the Google SEO Guide, they say 'optimize the use of images.' What they are saying is use the ALT attribute (and put keywords in there) to TELL Google what this is a picture of. So a great SEO page has keywords - TITLE tag - has keywords in it, but has some pizazz / snap to it, pithy so it 'gets the click.' META DESCRIPTION tag - has keywords in it, <155 characters, pizazz (how do you spell that?)... H1, header tag - A HREF, etc., some of the high priority tags GOOD keyword density. Now, let's talk about images. ** IF ** Google sees AT LEAST one image with the KEYWORDS in the ALT attribute this is a POWERFUL signal that this page is very focused on that keyword phrase. So I recommend at least ONE image per page that REINFORCES the TITLE tag. Beyond one? Perhaps two... but you can OVER DO it. That's called KEYWORD STUFFING and is bad in terms of SEO. If a page is TOO PERFECT, TOO OPTIMIZED, TOO DENSE... it will be deprecated. So don't OVERDO is. Don't UNDERDO it. I recommend one image, but not more than three... Three is even pushing it. But at least one. That's why it's the ART of SEO as much as the SCIENCE of SEO. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Ques : Where do you put company names in TITLE tags for SEO? Ans: Title tags are incredibly important to search engine optimization, so you are right to spend a lot of thought power on how to write your title tags. Generally speaking, it is easy to be number one for your company name, so therefore either do not include your company name on many of your title tags or put the company name in the far right position. Reserve the most powerful positions, which are those on the left, for your target keywords.
  • 7. Also realize that the title tag becomes the headline on Google. So in less you have a really strong brand like Motorola ot GEICO, then you want the reader to see the keywords first, which is more engaging. That is another reason to put the keywords towards the left of the title tag for search engine optimization purposes. As for the second part of your question I an adverse to 'commas.' I have a hunch that Google deprecates comments so I prefer to use the pipe character (|). Regardless, try to write your title tags as if they are complete sentences or at least read like bulleted lists and avoid comma comma comma phrases, as that is a dead giveaway to Google that you are over optimizing the content! Hope this helps! @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ THE TOP FIVE SEO MISTAKES ACCORDING TO GOOGLE’S MATT CUTTS In a recently published video, Matt Cutts, Google’s head of search spam, listed off the top five SEO mistakes webmasters make. Matt said these are not the most devastating mistakes, but rather, the most common mistakes.(1) Not having a website or having a website that is not crawlable is the biggest mistake he sees.(2) Not including the right words on the page. The example Matt gave is: don’t just write, ’Mt. Everest Height’ but write, ’How high is Mt. Everest?’ because that is how people search.(3) Don’t think about link building, think about compelling content and marketing.(4) Don’t forget to think about the title and description of your most important pages.(5) Not using webmaster resources and learning about how Google works and what SEO is about. Learn how to make your site available to appear in Google products.Inclusion in Google's search results is free and easy; you don't even need to submit your site to Google. Google is a fully automated search engine that uses software known as "spiders" to crawl the web on a regular basis and find sites to add to our index. In fact, the vast majority of sites listed in our results aren't manually submitted for inclusion, but found and added automatically when our spiders crawl... @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Ques : With all the different search engines, which ones should I be optimizing for, and which are searched the most often? Ans: The 4 most popular search engines by far are: Google, Yahoo, MSN/Live, & Ask They comprise over 90% of all searches online. I believe Google is getting around 60-65% of all searches, making it the most important by far to be optimizing for, and that number is just increasing. With all the algorithm changes, and dynamics happening between the different engines, I don’t know of many SEO’s that are specifically targeting one engine or another. If anything, targeting Google is the most common. So many of the principals are the same with all the engines. You should really just be following a set of SEO best practices, and not necessarily focusing on one or the other in my opinion. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Ques: How can I find out how much traffic my competitor is receiving? Ans: There isn’t a clearly defined way of doing this. There are a few tools out
  • 8. there that will give you a rough estimate, but many aren’t accurate, or don’t provide enough data. But if you can’t resist checking anyway, try using compete.com, or alexa.com. For larger sites, you can also use comscore.com, and hitwise.com @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Ques : Does it matter if I use Bold or Italics in my website’s copy? ’ Ans: It depends on who you ask. My short answer is no. It doesn’t play a significant role in your ranking. There may be a small shred of evidence to show that SE’s place some value on the bolded words, but not the italicized ones. If you start bolding your keywords all the time on every page, it’s going to make for a pretty bad user experience. I would just concentrate on your titles and subtitles (h1,h2, etc.). Those are generally accepted as the most important part of copy optimization. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Ques What is EMD? Ans: Exact match domain is when a keyphrase is in the domain name in an attempt to rank better. Select one that’s right for you not Google. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Ques: Is HTTPS bad for SEO? Ans: No it is not but try to avoid the trap of your site being duplicated in HTTP and HTTPS. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Ques: When do the Submission appear on the engines? - SEO Ans: - Engine and the directory structure for the website are different and it allows the submission to be done using the engine only. - The submission can take time or it is required to have the instances of the web site to be listed on the search engines. - Submission can only appear on the engines if it is submitted correctly and it provides better visibility of the request. - The engines can be added according to the submissions that are taking place and the calculative chances with the sources. - The engines and directories are put in a queue and add the chance to check the site for the content that is being used. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ LATENT SEMANTIC INDEXING: MORE IMPORTANT NOW THAN EVER BEFORE Due to the continual evolution of algorithms, SEO is constantly changing. One aspect that is more important now than ever before is the use of relevant phrases in content, commonly referred to as latent semantic indexing (LSI). This term refers to layering article content with multiple keywords rather than simply focusing on one. The benefits of LSI and how it works Perhaps the biggest benefit of LSI is the increase in traffic you can experience from employing this technique. While it’s possible to get a considerable amount
  • 9. of traffic from only one keyword, it only makes sense that you should get more from multiple keywords. In most cases, there will be one or two primary keywords used in an LSI article that have a normal keyword density ranging from two to three percent. However, there will often be up to 25 more keywords that are relevant but with a lower keyword density. Say ’Honolulu injury attorney’ is your primary keyword phrase on the home page of your law firm’s website. If you want to use LSI to bolster your SEO campaign’s success, you would sprinkle phrases like ’injury lawyer’ and ’Hawaii attorney’ in the rest of the copy on that page of your website. You can then expect to get traffic for multiple search terms instead of just one or two because you now have a larger variety of keywords within your content. Besides this, LSI is a great alternative to loading articles with anchor text. Since Google now penalizes websites with spammy anchor text, LSI should help your site rank for multiple keywords without causing your rankings to drop. LSI is also advantageous because it creates an opportunity to reach a wider audience. Even if someone isn’t necessarily interested in the content of your primary keyword, he might might be intrigued by the alternate keywords. This means that your website will have more value and an overall better appeal. You should eventually be able to build a bigger audience for your website or blog, hopefully making it easier to land more clients for your law firm. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ LIST OF FREE HOSTING SITES 1. Maybe you’ve decided to hire a PPC agency, or maybe you’re keeping PPC in-house but want someone to manage your program full time. Either way, congratulations on the new hire! You’ll no doubt expect your new PPC manager to dokeyword research, set up ad copy tests, manage bids, and track conversions. But PPC management goes way beyond keywords & ad copy. Here are seven questions to expect from your new PPC manager.
  • 10. What are Your Goals for PPC? The first thing your PPC manager should do, before he or she even logs into AdWords, is talk to you about your goals. A PPC campaign without goals is like traveling to a new city without a map. How will you find your way if you don’t know where you’re going? Expect your new manager to ask specific questions about sales goals, cost per conversion targets, and overall business goals. What are Your Key Products and Services? If you’ve hired someone from within, they probably already know the answer to this question. Everyone else needs to ask it. Even if your goal is just to use PPC to increase overall sales, it’s invaluable to know which products or services are your ’must-haves.’ This info is critical for prioritization, especially if you run low on budget and your PPC manager has to dial back your spend. Who is Your Primary Target Audience? Even your from-within hire should ask this question. Not only is it important for overall marketing strategy, it can also drive PPC tactics such as engine placement, geotargeting, and ad messaging. For example, if your goal is to generate awareness of a new product targeted to women age 35-54, you might want to focus on Facebook ads. You’ll get zillions of impressions, and they’ll all be delivered to your target audience. If your goal is to reach business decision makers, you should try Bing ’ it works very well for B2B at a fraction of the cost of Google. Are There any Specific Offers You’d Like to Promote? Not all PPC is offer/promotion-based. But it’s still good to know what promotions and offers are out there so you can test them in PPC. PPC is a great way to vet marketing messaging and get immediate response data without spending a lot of money on creative and traditional media. You can use PPC to test offers and concepts before rolling it out to display and print. It’s an efficient way to see what resonates with the audience and avoid sinking money into messaging that doesn’t get attention. What is Your Desired Cost per Conversion? While this question is related to the goals question, it needs to be asked on its own. I’ve lost count of how many clients I’ve worked with over the years who have no idea how much they’re willing to pay to acquire a customer. Sure, it’s possible to run PPC campaigns without a target CPA in mind ’ we’ll just try to get the lowest possible cost per conversion. But if you have even a ballpark number in mind, share it with your PPC manager! I once had a client in a competitive vertical with CPCs upwards of $5/click. We were getting CPAs of around $15, and I was pretty happy with that. Turns out the client didn’t want to pay more than $5 per lead! We would have had to convert every visitor in that situation. Get these thoughts out in the open before your campaign launches ’ you’ll both sleep better at night. What Conversions are you Measuring, and How are You Measuring Them? This is another question that a surprising number of advertisers answer with ’I don’t know’ and ’we’re not.’ If those are your responses, that’s OK. Your PPC manager can help you. But identifying key website conversion actions and setting up a way to track them will be their first order of business, before they even log in to AdWords. If you're tracking conversions, that’s great! If you have more than one conversion you’re tracking, take things one step further and make sure your PPC manager knows the priority of each conversion. If you’re in ecommerce, online sales will probably be your number one conversion; but you might also be interested in email signups, contact form submissions, phone calls, and other actions. Knowing the importance of each conversion will help your PPC manager optimize campaigns accordingly. What’s a Good Time to Hold a Recurring Meeting?
  • 11. Nobody wants more meetings. But regular communication with your PPC manager is crucial, whether the manager is in-house or at an agency. Meetings don’t have to be in-person; I have 30-minute monthly calls with several of my clients, and we rarely cancel. That’s because the clients know that we’ll discuss progress toward their business goals, how well we’re reaching their target audience, promotional offer results, cost per conversion, and conversions by type. Sound familiar? It should! We discuss all the questions I’ve outlined here. And we talk about other things too; but the primary agenda is usually the first six questions in this post. Even if your PPC manager isn’t new, it’s a good idea to revisit these questions with them. You’ll be glad you did. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ http://googlexpres.blogspot.in/2013/06/ultimate-guide-to-adwords- remarketing.html @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Could you briefly explain the PageRank algorithm? • 14. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Q27: Difference between keyword & keyword phrase? Ans: The keyword term is basically concerned with a one-word term, on the other hand a keyword phrase considered as employment of two or more word-combinations. Therefore, it is very confounded to get high ranking in account of one-word keyword term until the one-word keyword has little online competition. Therefore, this practice is not encouraged to employ. In order to drive more traffic and top ranking in SERP it is recommended to employ keyword phrase. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ 12)What is the meaning of competitive analysis? It will be a great source of idea. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ 14)Can you tell me about Frames in HTML? Ans: Frames in HTML are obvious as they used to discriminate the page content into distinct fragments. Search engines treat these frames as absolutely different pages as well as frames also put an negative impact over SEO. Thus, the search result appear on the screen will contain the word ’play’ in it. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ 18)What mistakes you should avoid while optimizing the website? Ans: The main mistakes that should be avoided are filling keywords in Web-Page, employing identical anchor text for link building, keyword stuffing, getting low quality backlinks etc. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ What’s your number one rule with SEO? More than any other question, this one will reveal your candidate’s basic philosophy and approach to SEO. It will also give you some idea of how experienced they are. As your candidate answers this question, whether they’re white hat, black hat, or somewhere in between, ask yourself if you can work with someone with that approach. Are they the right fit for your business? @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ What are your go to SEO tools? Nearly everyone uses tools of some kind in the SEO industry. Many are quite high profile and very popular; these include SEOMoz, Citatation Labs Link Prospector, Majestic SEO, and Raven Tools. Here, though, you’re not concerned with which tools your candidate SEO uses as much as how they’re used, and for what sorts of tasks. Used correctly, tools can speed up the process of SEO in a variety of ways; they’re a boon to research. But they’re not absolutely necessary. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ How do you carry out competitive analysis of keywords/SERPs as part of the keyword research process? Since keyword research is almost always the first and most important step for any SEO or SEM campaign, your SEO candidate should be able to tell you the process they use in detail ’ and it better be good.
  • 15. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Have you ever outsourced SEO work? Give me one example. SEO and SEM have grown complicated over the years. In addition to ordinary on-site optimization, there’s link building, pay-per-click campaigns, display ads, social media aspects, content creation, and more. That’s a lot of different pieces, and rare is the person who can do it all. Sometimes it’s necessary to outsource some details of a full-fledged online marketing campaign. Your SEO candidate’s answer to this question will tell you how well she can manage the whole circus. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ What are effective metrics for tracking return on investment for SEO? The right answer to this question depends in part on what you’re trying to achieve with your website; if you’re an online publisher, increasing traffic may be important than increasing revenue. Listen for your SEO candidate to use words like organic revenue, organic traffic, number of organic keywords, average order value, and conversion rate. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Question 1 ’You are A/B testing two different ad creatives . . . here are their impressions and clicks. Imagine on your first day, I tell you to optimize the campaign of 50 keywords, what do you do?’ Better yet, put data in front of them from a small Adwords account and just ask a simple, ’What do you do?’ While this isn’t natural search specific, its an easily understood simplistic pre-Algebra problem. The (insufficient) math-only answer is to calculate CTR and declare a winner (per EricM above). Years of schooling have trained us to identify a math problem, calculate the answer and move on to the next problem. This is the wrong approach and yields the wrong answer. What I’m really looking for is some holistic, out of the box thinking that is driven by a business orientation and technical experience. The right answers (yes plural answers) include: Consideration of sample size and confidence intervals. Looking downstream for differences in conversions in the creative. How can I further segment the 50 keywords to get more granular groups. For anyone with any PPC in their background, I’d expect some discussion around Quality Scores and landing page optimization testing. Question 2 ’In the above example, calculate the ROI of Ad A.’ This is a great, albeit obvious test for business orientation. The engineer who can get this question is surprisingly rare, but amazingly valuable. A ’marketing person’ who can’t come up with the basic formula isn’t going anywhere. Also note that the data I’ve provide the candidate so far doesn’t include anything around revenue or costs. I’m looking for the candidate who will quickly ID those missing elements, then put them together. Question 3 ’How would I use an analytics package to track reservations made on Urbanspoon?’ I’m looking for an understanding of how conversion tracking works ’ ideally within a large analytics package, like GA or Omniture. Question 4 ’According to Comscore, Company XXXX seems to been outpacing our growth in search over the past 12 months, why do you think that’s the case?’
  • 16. I’m looking for answers that utilize some of the paid or unpaid tools on the market. I’d expect someone to recommend doing a comparative link evaluation using tools from Majestic, SeoMOZ, Raven or even something free like Blekko. This is a great time to let the candidate actually log on to a tool and walk you through how they use it. Having a Majestic account is very different from being able to use one; in the same way that having a gym membership has not slowed the progression of my increasingly soft midsection. Question 5 ’Tell me about Caffeine or May Day.’ I’m not looking for my favorite beverage or descriptions of young girls dancing with ribbons. These are two named algo updates from 2009/2010 and familiarity with them indicates some duration of hands-on search. If you are looking for someone with serious longevity, ask about the Google Dance. Question 6 ’Here is an excel file with data for all of the 600,000 restaurants in the United States from Urbanspoon. Turn this file into a list of cities with more than 1,000 restaurants.’ The answer involves pivot tables and should take about 1-3 minutes. Question 7 ’Now, imagine we purchase a list of restaurant emails and want to append our huge database with those emails ’ how would we go about doing this?’ The answer involves a VLookup, which can be persnickety and tedious ’ fair to assume if they know the answer, they can work through the actual implementation. Question 8 ’We’re testing television advertising to evaluate our ability to extend our brand from a directory to a reservations destination. How would you evaluate the ROI of this?’ This question requires a fairly complex answer and I’m looking for nuances that include: What is your business objective? How is the test set up . . . what is the control I’m comparing this to? Some concept around lift and then extended lift (this is more of a branding answer, but ties into the notion of multiple touch points instead of focusing entirely on last click attribution ’ which is a very common mindset.) Search bonus for looking for lift uptick in branded search as well as direct traffic. Question 9 ’How can we rank better for ’Romantic Italian Restaurants in Redmond’ ’ here’s the page, but it ranks on the second page for that term.’ (Assume said page has standard on page optimization in place.) This is a red herring question - what I really want is for someone to tell me something along the lines of: ’ranking reports are a waste of time and here’s why’ ’you should look at the inbound search traffic instead of the ranking report for a specific term’ ’this is a long tail term, if you spend time chasing every long tail term, you’ll miss the forest for the trees.’ Question 10 At some point, I’m going to dig really deep on something where I have a lot of experience (say local or news search) where I know the candidate is going to hit the ceiling of her knowledge.
  • 17. In this case, the right answer is, ’I don’t know.’ There’s a lot of changes in search, making it impossible to know everything. Being able to tell your interviewer (or boss) ’I don’t know’ is very important. There are already enough people trying to BS their way through the search industry and I don’t want them working for me. Conversely, (and just as importantly) I want the candidate to enlighten me. A great candidate should be able to teach me something. If all else fails to draw this out, try: ’Tell me something I don’t know about search.’ The close cousin of the tell me something question is forward looking: ’what is the next big thing we should be thinking about?’ or ’My CEO is all atwitter about Pintrest, how should this play into our search strategy?’ Question 11 ’Tell me what you know about me.’ This isn’t a narcissistic probing into my favorite topic; but I’m really asking to see if a) the candidate has done any preparation and b) if the candidate is social. The integration of social into search makes this question increasingly relevant, especially for smaller entrepreneurial companies that may not have a ’social’ department or dedicated function. Smart candidates avoid this question by dropping hints about the interviewer’s background during the interview: ’I saw you played rugby’, ’lived in Ireland’, ’have kids’ to let the interviewer know they’ve done some research. This can also take the form of, ’In the New York times article last week about Urbanspoon’’ Question 12 Finally, the best question in any interview is a series of ’whys’. I interrupt repeatedly with why. Why? Because it challenges statements. Why? Because some candidates try to gloss over hard questions with assumptions. Why? Frequently, I find explaining assumptions leads to discussions on fascinating tangents. Why? Because their experience is very different to mine and I want to know what they’ll bring to the table. Onerous interview process? Uncomfortable? Maybe. But, I’d much rather have a tough hour long interview than a tough month or two or six with a poor fit. And let’s be honest, anyone worth his or her salt is going to have to answer much harder, on the spot questions across the organization every week.
