2. CATEGORIES OF MUSIC VIDEOS
There are three kinds of music videos:
o Narrative based videos
o Performance based videos
o Concept based videos
Our video will be slightly narrative based and concept based. The
narrative elements in it would be that the lyrics and genre of the song
will be exaggerated in the video. The concept elements the fact that
our music video is based around an idea. The aim of our video is show
that our artist is having fun with her friends. The fast beat of the song
means that we can use many editing techniques to make the speed of
the video match the speed of the song.
3. INTERTEXTUALITY IN MUSIC
VIDEOS
Intertextuality is when something in a music videos refers to another
piece of media material. I think that it can be really effective as it can
draw attention to a music video massively. Depending on what kind
of image you want to portray it can work really well.
A really good example is Iggy Azalea’s music video ‘Fancy’ as the
image that she wanted to portray was glamorous. She used
intertextuality by making the video look like the film ‘Clueless’.
Clueless is a very popular film among girls within the age range of 17-
25 which is the same age range of Iggy Azelea’s target audience.
I’m unsure of how we could use intertextuality in our music video but
it is definitely something we will consider as I really like the idea of it.
