Cell_id based (GMLC application only) low cost, high availability Accuracy depends on cellsize No cost in network infrastructure Enhanced Cell-id technics (GMLC & SMLC) Accuracy depends on algoritm used Infrastructure costs can be high depending on algoritm used Assisted GPS (AGPS) Very high accuracy Handset needs GPS functionality
LCS : Location Capability Server SLP : Serving Location Platform (A-GPS server in the SUPL terminology) Main message to explain around this slide : Two cases : 1) if we install a GMLC (with Cell-Id based) and A-GPS, we only introduce one node in the network (SLP) and the interaction with the network is restricted to the GMLC-HLR interface. => Low infrastructure costs, low integration efforts needed. 2) If we go to the more complex SMLC approaches, then the infrastructure impact is bigger and the integration efforts are much bigger. So, in case the handset population allows it, the recommended way to increase the accuracy is to use the A-GPS based approach and not the SMLC approach.
