Teacher education refers to discipline sub sector of
education. It is basically differ from pre service and
in service forms.
It provides to the teachers in service with Information
It provides Knowledge
It provides Pedagogical skills
It provides Way to develop appropriate professional
attitudes behaviors.
The key objective to teacher education porgramme are
Facilitate the knowledge
Transfer of knowledge
Reform / modify teachers behavior
Build and develops teachers character and personalities
Develop new pedagogical skills
Develop such abilities that relevant to the life of a “teacher
as a teacher”
Developing self-confidence in the teachers
Enabling teachers to understand the significance of
 A number of the thing that enhance the
need of teacher education such as
 Introduce new teaching methods and
techniques
 Teaching practice to face new challenges
 Mastery in teaching learning principles
 Awareness new teaching trends from the
global outlook

 These are purposes of teacher education such as
 Develop understanding the basis of teaching(psychological ,philosophical,
and sociological)
 Build up effective and efficient teaching professionals abilities in teachers
 Develop understanding and relationship of education with the society
 Face the problems
 Save resources
 Utilize the resources
 Discover pedagogical strategies
 Develop sense of responsibility
 Facilitating the acquisition and retention of knowledge
 Motivate the teachers for teaching learning process
 Overcome teaching problems and weakness
 Teacher education has divided into three phases
 1) initial teacher education
 2) induction
 3) continuing teacher education
 It conduct before formally starting the
teaching profession.
 It provides first hand experience practically
 Training mostly provided in education colleges
and education departments of universities
 Pre-service course conduct
 Professional teachers abilities develop
 Duration a year or so
 It refers to procedure to communicate on the
job guidance to the teachers.
 offered to new employees when they
join job.
 Such guidance provide first few months of
teaching.
 It is called informal phase.
 It refers to in-service professional teaching practicing
process.
 It considers a life long process.
 Formally arranged and conducted
 Purpose to brought improvement in the overall
teaching methodologies or specific subject-teaching
skills.
 Mostly conduct for the expected promotions
 There are mainly five types of teacher-education programmes
 1. Pre-primary teacher education
 2. Primary teacher education
 3. Secondary teacher education
 4. Higher education programmes
 5. Vocational teachers training
Teacher education programmes types
1. Pre-primary teacher education:
State government conduct such courses for teacher education.
 For admission minimum qualification required
 Duration is one or two year consisted.
2. Primary teacher education:
for admission of such porgramme minimum qualification required
 3. Secondary teacher education:
 Mostly colleges provide such training to the graduate teachers for
secondary or higher secondary classes.
 4. Higher education:
 It has four types of the courses
 One-year M.Ed. Course.
 Two-year m. A in education
 Two-year PhD. Course after M.Ed./M.A. (Education)
 Post-graduate diploma in some aspects of education after B.Ed.
 5. Vocational Teachers/Training:
 Such training conduct for technical subjects
 It consist specific course.
 These are most common hurdles in teacher education
 Lack of amenities/ resources for professional development
 Problems of practice teaching
 Lack of supervision
 Incompetency
 Poor academic background
 Inadequate research work
 Lack of subject command , knowledge / information
 Poor quality of course
 Negative attitude of managements
 Lack of dedication
 Unplanned co-curricular activities
 Insufficient co-curricular activities
 We can overcome teacher education problem through following ways

It provides to the teachers in service with Information It provides Knowledge It provides Pedagogical skills It provides Way to develop appropriate professional attitudes behaviors.

The key objective to teacher education porgramme are Facilitate the knowledge Transfer of knowledge Reform / modify teachers behavior Build and develops teachers character and personalities Develop new pedagogical skills Develop such abilities that relevant to the life of a “teacher as a teacher” Developing self-confidence in the teachers Enabling teachers to understand the significance of

  • 6.  These are purposes of teacher education such as  Develop understanding the basis of teaching(psychological ,philosophical, and sociological)  Build up effective and efficient teaching professionals abilities in teachers  Develop understanding and relationship of education with the society  Face the problems  Save resources  Utilize the resources  Discover pedagogical strategies  Develop sense of responsibility  Facilitating the acquisition and retention of knowledge  Motivate the teachers for teaching learning process  Overcome teaching problems and weakness
  • 7.  Teacher education has divided into three phases  1) initial teacher education  2) induction  3) continuing teacher education
  • 8.  It conduct before formally starting the teaching profession.  It provides first hand experience practically  Training mostly provided in education colleges and education departments of universities  Pre-service course conduct  Professional teachers abilities develop  Duration a year or so
  • 9.  It refers to procedure to communicate on the job guidance to the teachers.  offered to new employees when they join job.  Such guidance provide first few months of teaching.  It is called informal phase.
  • 10.  It refers to in-service professional teaching practicing process.  It considers a life long process.  Formally arranged and conducted  Purpose to brought improvement in the overall teaching methodologies or specific subject-teaching skills.  Mostly conduct for the expected promotions
  • 11.  There are mainly five types of teacher-education programmes  1. Pre-primary teacher education  2. Primary teacher education  3. Secondary teacher education  4. Higher education programmes  5. Vocational teachers training
  • 12. Teacher education programmes types 1. Pre-primary teacher education: State government conduct such courses for teacher education.  For admission minimum qualification required  Duration is one or two year consisted. 2. Primary teacher education: for admission of such porgramme minimum qualification required
  • 13.  3. Secondary teacher education:  Mostly colleges provide such training to the graduate teachers for secondary or higher secondary classes.  4. Higher education:  It has four types of the courses  One-year M.Ed. Course.  Two-year m. A in education  Two-year PhD. Course after M.Ed./M.A. (Education)  Post-graduate diploma in some aspects of education after B.Ed.
  • 14.  5. Vocational Teachers/Training:  Such training conduct for technical subjects  It consist specific course.
  • 15.  These are most common hurdles in teacher education  Lack of amenities/ resources for professional development  Problems of practice teaching  Lack of supervision  Incompetency  Poor academic background  Inadequate research work  Lack of subject command , knowledge / information  Poor quality of course  Negative attitude of managements  Lack of dedication  Unplanned co-curricular activities  Insufficient co-curricular activities
