I Was An Eiffel Tower
I observed Daphne, a preschooler, and her brother Damien, a toddler, at their home around 1 pm.
They are siblings. The observation lasted 30 minutes. I sat down on the couch and observed them at
playing wooden blocks. Once when I arrived at my friend's house, my friend placed a big black
container box at their playroom that contains of different shapes and sizes of wooden blocks. As
their mom was putting at the center, Daphne and Damien were excited to go at the center to play
these wooden blocks. Their floor is made of carpet. Daphne started to place a big rectangular
wooden block vertically at her first base and got a bridge shape wooden block and placed it on top
of the rectangle block. Then, she grabbed a short square wooden block ... Show more content on

Daphne accepted it and added it to her tower. She put a big cylinder on top of it holding her tower to
make it still. Her tower was moving and it fell down again. She gave sad expression to her face and
looked to her mom. Her mom said, "keep trying, it is ok." Then, she tried another set with different
designs for her tower. Then, after a few minutes she made it and said " I did it." While Damien was
walking around her piece, Daphne said, " be careful." Damien went to the container and found a
dish. Daphne said to her mom, "Look Mama," while pointing to a dish. Then, her mom said, "he
found a dish." Damien kept looking around and found an animal fence. Damien added some wooden
blocks to Daphne's tower. The wooden block stayed still and Daphne said, "Thanks." Damien added
again some wooden blocks carefully and Daphne was assisting him to put it in her tower. Daphne
said to her mom, "Look we made a big tower." Damien kept adding to their work. The tower did not
fall down as he placed the last triangular wooden block. Then, Daphne got a ball to their couch and
throw it to the tower they made. She said, "hoop" and then, they both laughed. Then, they said
together, "again." Their mom said, "let's have a contest on who has a big tower will win." Then, they
were both eager to start their own tower by their own selves. At first attempt, their tower both fell
down because of their fast paced and putting different shapes and sizes at their own tower. Daphne

How Was Political Grandeur And Dignity Articulated Through...
How was political grandeur and dignity articulated through early 19th century civic architecture in
Paris? Use specific examples.
In the wake of the French revolution and King Louis XVI of France's execution in 1773, 19th
century France was a time of immense political, economic and social uncertainty as new political
parties competed for power and attempted to reform Frances governing systems. The civil
architecture and forms that were built during this period reflect these upheavals, as commissioned
architects turned to new styles, city plans and construction methods in order to serve the political
ambitions of the governing party. Architecture provided a means of articulating political grandeur
and dignity both clearly and creatively, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the instabilities caused by the Napoleonic Wars a new style of architecture did not develop
during Napoleons rule, resulting in the continuation of pre–French Revolution classicism. With the
intention of articulating imperialistic grandeur and referencing France as the "new Roman Empire" ,
an emphasis was placed on neoclassical elements and the use of columns and arches becoming more
liberal. Jean Chalgrin's Arch de Triomphe provides an example of politically motivated neoclassical
architecture. The triumphant arch was commissioned by Napoleon in 1806 to serve as an honorary
monument and rallying point for the French military . Inspired in part by the Arch of Titus in the
Roman Forum, decorative high–relief sculptures celebrating military victories from the French
Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars adorn the structure . It is evident that Napoleon believed that as
an empire that had annexed and made most of Europe into its satellites, the First French Empire
deserved to have its grandeur reflected by a monument that referenced one of the world's largest and
most successful ancient Empires. Through large and imposing monumental structures, Napoleon
sought to reminded French society of the military and political successes that had been achieved
under his rule and consequently idealise his leadership, The First

Paris can be a very busy city, tourists trying to snap as many pictures of monuments as they can,
stop and go traffic on every street, and impatient Parisians who are just trying to get to work and
away from tourists. The reason for all of this bustle is because Paris hosts some of the most famous
attractions in the world! The Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, and the Centre Pompidou are at the center of
these attractions in Paris.
Known for its renowned art, the Louvre is one of Paris' most famous art museums. Inside its walls,
more than 35,000 paintings, drawings, and sculptures reside. In the Louvre, tourists will find many
well–known paintings, drawings, and sculptures. The most famous is the Mona Lisa, painted by
Leonardo Da Vinci. Originally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tower stands in the seventh arrondissement (district), is rich in history, and is one of the most
visited attractions in Paris. The Eiffel Tower was built in 1889 for the World's Fair and was the main
attraction at the fair. It was constructed to commemorate the French Continental Army. This
memorial was no easy feat to build. Each of the 18,00 pieces used to construct the tower was
specifically made for this creation. Two–and–a–half million thermally assembled rivets later, this
324–metre tower was successfully finished. Although many people think Gustave Eiffel is to credit
for much of this creation, there are two other men, Maurice Koechlin and Emile Nouguier, who
should be credited. According to Life Science.com, Koechlin and Nouguier are actually the ones
who came up with the original designs for the tower. Thanks to the work of Koechlin, Nouguier, and
Eiffel, the tower is Paris's most visited attraction. According to Frommer's Guide to Paris, on a high
day, the tower can host over 32,000 people. That adds up to about 7 million visitors a year. When
visiting this historic monument, a tourist should keep in mind the rich history and process involved
in making this big

hotel and call it a night." Jim told him. "I will then leave the Tower and drive around a little,
checking to see that the ReVoLT is working and making sure they don 't follow you." Jim smiled.
"Now I 'll know where these two clowns are!" Then, with a light slap on Sam 's back, Jim told him.
"Okay partner, let 's Get 'er Done!"
The two agents then got into their cars. Sam turned on his Agent Tracking Software and saw the
Green Dot on the street map that showed Jim 's car 's position as he drove out of the parking garage.
Setting the program to display the ReVoLT as a Red Dot, Sam was ready to go. 'If only my wife
could see me now. ' He thought to himself. 'She would be so proud of me. ' After he thought a bit
more, he told himself, 'No. Actually she would be scared to death and try to talk me out of it! ' It 's a
good thing she can 't see me now! '
"Sam?" His phone spoke."
"I 'm here Jim!" He told his partner.
"I think I have a tail."
"Already?" Sam said. "You 're only three blocks away?"
"I just turned." Jim said. "You see me?"
"Yes." Sam said. "I have a good signal on your phone."
"The Mercedes is tailing me. Our two clowns have taken the bait. I 'll turn left here." After a pause
of about three seconds, Jim told Sam, "They have also made the turn and are following me!" Jim
told Sam. "Charlie Mike, Over! Talk to you later."

Research Paper On The Eiffel Tower
The Eiffel Tower is one of the most well–known structures in the world. Along with the Eiffel
Tower, Eiffel created many structures that are famous and innovative, like the Maria Pia in Portugal
and Bon Marché Department Store. He also helped with the structural integrity of the Statue of
Liberty. Eiffel's father put him in a prestigious school in Paris. Although his interests were heavily
influenced by his father, Eiffel found his niche in structural engineering, and he flourished in that
niche. He gained much needed experience that led him to create and design his most famous
structures, including but not limited to the Maria Pia and the L.A. Boileau the Younger on the Bon
Marche Department Store in Paris. His major advances were mostly with structural techniques that
were aesthetically pleasing technique. Gustave Eiffel's innovative design and aesthetic appeal helped
create long–lasting structures. His structures, advances and his legacy transcends the years. Gustave
Eiffel was born in France in 1832. Even though his last name suggests that he is German, his
descendants resided in France for over a century before Eiffel was born. His father was in the
French military in the time of Napoleon. He converted to civil service and eventually settled down
in Dijon, where Eiffel would eventually be born, to work for his wife in her coal enterprise. Eiffel's
mother was a competent business leader. She helped keep her family financially stable. Eiffel's other
relatives were successful business leaders as well. His father wanted to send him to l'Ecole
Polytechnique for its militaristic character in hopes that his son would join the French forces as he
once did. Instead, Eiffel went to l'Ecole Centrale des Arts et Manufactures. This school put him
through "a 3–yr course (6,7) during his 20th to his 23rd year, in statics, hydraulics, metallurgy,
biology, and the calculus." (Ellis, 1405). This curriculum was standard. He learned general sciences.
This became the foundation for his civil engineering career: statics and calculus are essential for any
engineer. While in school, according to Ellis, "Eiffel's standings were linear: 11th in his first year,
22nd in his second, and 33rd in his third." (1405). This school

Essay on The Eiffel Tower: A Rich History
The Eiffel Tower
Have you ever thought about going on vacation this summer? If you are, you should go to the
wonderful Eiffel Tower located in Paris, France. There are many reasons as of two why you should
consider going there, but these are the important ones; the life of Gustave Eiffel, description of the
Eiffel Tower, and the tourist attraction. Alexander–Gustave Eiffel was an only son and the first child
of Catherine– Melanie Eiffel and Francois–Aleixandre. He was born on December 15, 1832, in
Dijon, France. Eiffel's dad was a soldier in the French army, and he had run away from his wealthy
family. He had to go back to Dijon, France, where an army was stationed there. That was where he
had met Catherine Eiffel, and later ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then he went to a different academy and got a major on chemistry (which he did well in because of
his uncle) and got another major in engineering. Later in life, he became a railroad building owner,
and that's how it all started. He wanted to do more in his life, so he decided to do projects that are
fun and creative. He wanted to build bigger structures. A French railway company had seen his
outstanding work, and recommended Eiffel to build the Garabit Bridge. This was no ordinary
request. This bridge was going to stand 400 feet above the Truyere River. This project was a
success, so whenever the ministry of France wanted a project to be done, it would be Gustave Eiffel.
Gustave had built many bridges and had done many projects in France. He also got some projects
done in Scotland too. Also, Eiffel was the one who contributed in the making and building of The
Statue of Liberty, located in New York, showing a sign of liberty and justice. Also showed a great
connection with France and the U.S. Eiffel was at the age of 55 when he wanted to build a brand
new structure being named after him. He would call it "the Eiffel tower". He also wanted it to be a
great attraction for people and a great structure for France. He wanted this building to have all of the
new technology to build this tower. On January 26th, 1887, workers began doing their job and fixing
the base to put in the foundation. Eiffel

The Eiffel Tower And The Tower
The Eiffel Tower As you know, the Eiffel Tower is one of the most prominent aspects and statues in
France. This tall piece of beauty was built on March 31, 1889. It 's made of more than 18,000 iron
pieces. The man who designed it was Alexandre–Gustave Eiffel and when it was first built his
daughter climbed it and discovered there are 1,710 steps. Alexandre led the team that developed the
plans and also designed the metal framework of another landmark the statue of liberty. Paris, France,
where the tower is located and it brings a lot of tourists, thus causing a lot of foot traffic. When
many people go to France, their main objective is to see the Eiffel Tower, as well as get a photo
standing by it. "The tower is 1063 foot tall cast–iron skeleton equipped with elevators that has
spectacular aerial views of Paris." At the present time, "The Eiffel Tower was built for the
International Exhibition of Paris of 1889 commemorating the centenary of the French Revolution."
(Corrosion Doctors, Eiffel Tower History). In 1889, an Exposition Universal (World Fair) was
hosted by Paris to mark the 100th year anniversary of the French Revolution. "More than 100 artists
submitted competing plans for a monument to be built on the Champ–de–Mars, located in central
Paris, and serve as the exposition's entrance". (History.com, Eiffel Tower). There were many designs
proposed to help the City Officials decide what the tower

It is about 3:56 pm in Frankfurt, Germany and its a nice 78 degrees outside . " It was weird I woke

for direction I don't speak german . All that went away when mandi said " we are here in a different
country , I can't wait to see all the history and meet people ." "yeah it weird to think history is right
out this plane door." I said. There was Frankfurt's beautifully reconstructed main square with the
famous Romer building. Romer is one of the city's most important landmark it is a medieval styled
building .At the top in the middle of the Romer is a blue clock that chimes at every hour. This was

back in the 1800's . This must have looked so different back then no cars, street lights , people

The Iron Lady
The Iron Lady. One of the most stand–out monuments in the world, and one of the most beautiful. It
shares its nickname with Margaret Thatcher, a prime minister of England. Built by Gustave Eiffel in
1889 as an entrance to the World Fair, La Tour Eiffel would stand for twenty years before being torn
down. However, the tower would later be repurposed as a radio antenna in 1909 for World War I,
and still stands as a radio antenna to this day, where more than one hundred antennae beam radio
and television broadcasts around the world. The Eiffel Tower is one of the most recognized, and
most paid for visited monument in the world. However, when it was built, there were multiple
protests against it. Most Parisians fear that La Tour Eiffel was structurally unsound or that it was an
eyesore that would out–shadow other famous buildings in Paris, like Notre Dame and the Louvre.
Novelist Guy de Maupassant allegedly hated the Eiffel Tower so much he ate lunch in the restaurant
at the base of the tower every day because it was "the only vantage point from which (I) could
completely avoid glimpsing its looming silhouette." Eiffel later stated that the tour was on the
Champs de Mars and far enough away from all those other monuments and it would not risk
overwhelming them. Edouard Lockroy wrote a letter of support about the tower, and explained how
all the protesting was irrelevant because the project had been decided upon months before and
construction for it was already underway. When

The Eiffel Tower, Architecture, And Scenic View
Nearly seven million people visit the Eiffel Tower a year and I was lucky enough to be one of them.
The Eiffel Tower has many things to offer including an abundant amount of history, two restaurants
and a beautiful scenic view. I am going to evaluate the history , the two different restaurants, and the
scenic view. There is a vast amount of history behind the Eiffel Tower. Here are a few things I
thought were interesting. The Eiffel Tower was built by Gustave Eiffel. It was built for the 1889
exposition universal to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the french revolution. The construction
of the Eiffel Tower took 2 years, 2 months and 5 days. When it was constructed, it was the defining
moment of the industrial era. The Eiffel Tower was only intended to last 20 years, but it has lasted
126 years! According to the world, the Eiffel Tower is France's symbol. When you see the Eiffel
Tower, most people think Paris or France. The Eiffel Tower stands 1062 feet tall and has 3 floors. It
has 7 million visitors annually and 75 percent of them are foreigners. It also has 20,000 light bulbs
to light it up. The lighting started in 1985 and at night it lights for 5 minutes every hour, on the hour.
On the top of the Eiffel Tower, are 120 antennas, at one point in time it was used by the military to
send messages around Paris. You can tour the Eiffel Tower from 9:30 in the morning to 11 at night.
An elevator or lift ticket to the second floor costs 9.58 for anyone 12 to 24 years old

The Eiffel Tower And Architect Gustave Eiffel
Name of structure
The famous structure I have selected is the Eiffel tower, named after and built by an engineer
Gustave Eiffel who was French.
Location
The Eiffel tower was oriented/built on the end of the champ de Mars near the Seine river on the left
in the seventh arrondissement of Paris, France. The address of the Eiffel tower is Champ de Mars, 5
Avenue Anatole France, 75007 Paris, France.
Exact height
Many people, tourists and communities are amused by the fact the height of the Eiffel tower has
lately (in 1957) increased by 39 feet (11.8872 metres) because an Antenna has been constructed on
top of the original Eiffel tower to increase its height. Gustave Eiffel had a desire of making the
Eiffel tower taller after all the structures that have been built throughout History, he wanted the
Eiffel tower to fabricate development through its height. The exterior height of the Eiffel towers
measures 1024 feet tall (312.1152 metres) excluding the antennas. Currently, the exact height of the
Eiffel tower measures 1063 feet (324. 0024 metres) including the antennas that were constructed on
top.
Dimensions
The Eiffel tower is one of the world's tallest structure ever built. The Eiffel tower has a height of
312.1152 metres excluding the antennas and the height with the antennas that was constructed in
1957 is 324.0024 metres. The exterior base of the Eiffel tower is in a shape of a square which
measures 124.90 metres by 124.90 metres. The interior base of the Eiffel tower is

Narrative Essay On The Eiffel Tower
I woke up thinking about the contest again, but I pushed it aside and got ready to go touring again
and today we were going to the Eiffel Tower. We headed out at 10:00am and drove there in a cab,
we arrived and the view from our room was no match to the real–deal, it was outstanding and a lot
bigger than I imaged too. We got in line for tickets and it didn't take to long, so we found our tour
guide, so that she could take us up in it, I was nervous and excited at the same time because I don't
like heights, but I do love scenery. We went up in an elevator to the "first floor" or the first platform
and let me tell you,it was as beautiful as a thousand roses, literally, there was thousands of roses
everywhere, it was magnificent. After a while we got back on the elevator to go to the top and on the
way up the tour guide told us that it is about 108 floor tall, twice the size of the one is Vegas. The
elevator stopped and we stepped out. The breeze was perfect and so was the weather, we walked out
to a telescope and plopped in a quarter. All I could say was "wow," my mom and dad were almost
speechless too. Once we got up there I realized i wasn't afraid anymore, hopefully the contest was
going to be the same way, I took it all in, along with a thousand photos my mom took of us and
everything else. We kept looking at everything, it was like nothing I've ever experienced before, it
was perfect and so delicate, words were not enough to explain it. The city was busy and all the cars
and people looked like ants, the park around us was perfect, the grass, the trees everything seemed
so perfect around us, at least until it started to pour rain. We ran into the elevator and luckily there
was enough room for all of us because there were people who didn't get in and i was sure they were
drenched by now. After some time we got to the bottom and ran to our cab as fast as cheetahs, but it
didn't matter, we were drenched as well. We got in our cab and drove to our hotel to change and dry
off. We wandered the hotel after we changed, to look at all the paintings and statues. It stopped
raining after a little while and we decided to go shopping around the boutiques, the look of the
boutiques made me think that everything was

My Dream Trip To Europe
Upon receiving a plane ticket to Europe, it is with great anticipation and excitement that I will soon
board a plane and start my exciting journey to the place where I have dreamt of going for many
years. For as far back as I can remember, my dream has been to travel Europe and see the cities of
the old world. My dream is to travel Europe and just explore the continent at my leisure. My first
stop will be beautiful and historic London, England to visit Buckingham Palace, and to see London
from the iconic London Eye; additionally I dreamed of going to Paris, France and climb the Eiffel
Tower to gain a perfect vantage point to overlook this beautiful city; I am also anxious to taste the
delights of Italian pasta and wonderful gelato as I stroll around historic Rome, Italy where I will tour
The Colosseum, The Pantheon, and admire the images at The Vatican City. Now that dream is about
to come true.
After several hours and one flight change, I arrive in London, England. Even though it is nighttime,
the city is absolutely vibrant and, of course, beautiful. The way the bright lights illuminate the city is
amazing and I could not be happier. I am very excited as I know that tomorrow is going to be the
start of an incredible two weeks. The next morning, I get up bright and early and I am greeted with a
welcoming smile from the sun. After getting dressed and ready to take on my first day, I walk

young girl. She had long, thick, wavy brown hair just like Winnie did. Her sparkling blue eyes and
golden skin made Jesse wonder if that was his love Winnie Foster. Jesse came out from behind the

Mise En-Scene Analysis
Shakespeare was a master at creating worlds through words that were performed on stage. Musical
theatre has been an entertainer for years. This leaves no question as to why Lurhmann pays tribute to
such a master and a great gene.
In sequence 14 in Romeo and Juliet, entitled Romeo Sneaks Back In, Lurhmann takes a new angle
to the famous balcony scene. There is a long shot of the Capulets' balcony by the pool and Romeo in
the middle ground. The lighting is dark as it suggests secrecy. Romeo triggers the motion lights and
the setting is instantly brightened.
Cut to a high angle, medium close up of Romeo climbing the vines. There are cuts between Romeo
and the door on the balcony. Instead of the traditional Shakespeare portrayal, Baz Lurhmann has the
nurse stepping out instead of Juliet. Cut to a long shot of Juliet stepping out of the elevator and
Romeo standing by the vines. The lighting in the elevator is ... Show more content on

Lurhmann acknowledges that Shakespeare's genius took place on the stage.
Sequence 9 in Moulin Rouge, known as Your Song, a Broadway production is created in the setting
through the use of mise–en–scene. A long shot where Satine and Christian are dancing on rooftops
and fog has engulfed the stage. In the middle ground of the shot there is a replica of the Eiffel Tower
and in the background are the city lights of Paris and a singing moon. Due to the mise–en–scene the
set up looks a lot like a stage set up.
Another long shot shows Christian dancing in the clouds as he makes his way to the Eiffel Tower
and he climbs up the Eiffel Tower, this shows us that the Eiffel tower replica is used as a stage prop
that Christian dances on.
This stage like setting with in the film pays a tribute to musical theatre. If one thinks if musical
theatre they think of a Broadway production. This sequence is very similar to what a Broadway
production would look

treasure. I was a little disappointed when nothing really caught my eye, until I spotted a small muted
tone globe sitting upon a brown round metal base, tucked away behind an old rustic cabinet in the
corner of the store. It was a vintage Replogle (world's largest manufacturer of globes) ten–inch

exhibition would take the form of an Arch of Triumph laid out on the ground; the summit being
formed by the Palace of Machines, the Keystone by the Central Dome, and the two extended arms
by the parallel Palace of Beaux Arts and the Palace of the Liberal Arts" ( Silverman, 85).
The exposition opened the day after the official centennial celebration, which included a pilgrimage
to Versailles. On May 6, President Sadi Carnot inaugurated the fair by

The Effel Tower And The Eiffel Tower By Henri Rousseau
Henri Rousseau, born in May 21, 1844, was a self–taught artist who started his artistic career when
he was forty. He began his life working as a clerk, then he joined the French army after being
accused of stealing money from his employer. He later moved to Paris and obtained a job working
for the French Customs Office, and it was there that he began painting part–time. It was really this
background of his that allowed his paintings to be original and uninfluenced by traditional painting
techniques. Since he was a self–taught artist and had no significant experience with painting, he had
the freedom to paint as he perceived and as he imagined. Henri Rousseau was a man who liked to
exaggerate his life to make himself seem adventurous and exciting. He made up stories about his
time in the military and overstated his importance in the Customs office where he worked. This was
also reflected in his artwork where manipulated the painting to emphasize beauty and excitement. In
1898 Henri Rousseau painted The Eiffel Tower, and during this time the Eiffel Tower had been
opened for just about about ten years so it was still fairly new. The painting features the Seine River
and the Eiffel tower perfectly aligned to create a beautiful scenery. In this particular painting he was
inspired by both the Eiffel Tower and the Seine River, but in reality, these two attractions never align
how Rousseau portrays them. This shows how, like in many of his paintings, Rousseau toyed with

Eiffel Tower
The Eiffel Tower is a puddle iron lattice tower located on the Champ de Marsin Paris. Built in 1889,
it has become both a global cultural icon of France and one of the most recognizable structures in
the world. The tower is the tallest building in Paris and the most–visited paid monument in the
world; millions of people ascend it every year. Named after its designer, engineer Gustave Eiffel, the
tower was built as the entrance arch to the 1889 World's Fair.
The tower stands 324 metres tall, about the same height as an 81–storey building. During its
construction, the Eiffel Tower surpassed theWashington Monument to assume the title of the tallest
man–made structure in the world, a title it held for 41 years, until the Chrysler Building in ... Show

The tower was much criticized by the public when it was built, with many calling it an eyesore.
Newspapers of the day were filled with angry letters from the arts community of Paris. The pig iron
structure of the Eiffel Tower weighs 7,300 tones, while the entire structure, including non–metal
components, is approximately 10,000 tones. As a demonstration of the economy of design, if the
7,300 tones of the metal structure were melted down it would fill the 125–metre–square base to a
depth of only 6 cm, assuming the density of the metal to be 7.8 tones per cubic meter. Depending on
the ambient temperature, the top of the tower may shift away from the sun by up to 18 cm because
of thermal expansion of the metal on the side facing the sun.
Maintenance of the tower includes applying 50 to 60 tones of paint every seven years to protect it
from rust. The height of the Eiffel Tower varies by 15 cm due to temperature. In order to maintain a
uniform appearance to an observer on the ground, three separate colors of paint are used on the
tower, with the darkest on the bottom and the lightest at the top. On occasion the color of the paint is
changed; the tower is currently painted a shade of bronze. On the first floor there are interactive
consoles hosting a poll for the color to use for a future session of painting. The only non–structural
elements are the four decorative grillwork arches, added in Stephen Sauvestre's sketches,

Similarities Between The Empire State Building And The...
Around the world, there are different kinds of buildings and constructions that represent a country or
city. Evidently, buildings are different from one to another in location, aging time, and materials of
construction. Nevertheless, many buildings share some similarities. Many people know that The
Empire State Building and The Eiffel Tower are in different continents and that at first glance they
have nothing in common. Otherwise, they share some similarities like being the tallest buildings in
the city that each is located, the number of observatories, and One of their similarities is the height.
Both Empire State Building and The Eiffel Tower are the tallest infrastructure in their cities. The
Empire State Building with 1,250 feet in the top floor and 1,454 feet to the tip is the tallest building
in the city of New York, this building that nowadays is a point of attraction for tourist in the big
apple opened in May 1931. Likewise, The Eiffel Tower located in Europe with 906 feet in the top
floor and 1,063 feet to the tip is the tallest construction in the city of Paris. It has been open for
tourist since 1889 and it was the tallest building in the world from 1889 to 1930. Another similarity
between The Empire State Building and The Eiffel Tower is that both possess observatories in the
top floor. The Empire State Building has two observatories; one on the 86th floor that in the last few
years have been closed to the public and one on the 102nd floor; if

Essay On The Eiffel Tower
The history of the Eiffel Tower is one of a kind, because the Eiffel Tower itself is one of the most
magnificent structures in Paris. The history of the tower is vast, covering many parts of history, both
internally and externally. A visitor of the Eiffel Tower should know everything about the tower from
inception until todays time period. Built in 1889 by Gustave Eiffel in celebration of the one hundred
years since the French Revolution and the celebration of the World's Fair. Interestingly, the
contraction of the tower took two years, two months, and five days. The architectural design was
given to Eiffel et Compagnie, a consulting and construction firm owned by Alexandre–Gustave
Eiffel, who often gets the credit for building the tower; while it was actually one of his employees
Maurice Koechlin, who came up with and created the concept of the Eiffel tower. I believe the Eiffel
tower is significant towards the history of Paris, since it was the most impressively built monument;
representation towards the city in terms of symbolism and strength in war–time or attack. During the
early 20th century, the Eiffel Tower had been used as the first radio transmission station in 1903 and
transmitted the first radio program in 1925. Historically, the tower was the tallest building in the
world, until 1930 when New York built the Chrysler Building that is standing at 1,046 feet. Before
the invention of electricity, the Eiffel Tower was first illuminated by 10,000 gas lamps, it was not
until 1985 that the towers golden lights with 336 projectors using sodium bulbs to make an orange
hue were implicated; in 2004 these golden lights were replaced with more environmentally friendly
ones. Interestingly, during the mid–1920s, a famous con–man named Victor Lustig wanted to scam
people using the Eiffel Tower as a scape–goat. He went to Paris in May 1925 and planned a scheme
in that investors called "the big store". At last Lustig sealed his gangster fate by doing a few con–
man known things. First, Lustig somehow was able to get himself stationary that had the "official
French government seal" and "pretended to be a government official". By doing those two things, he
managed to frame his way into the French government,

The Eiffel Tower is located in Paris, France, buildt in 1889 and it is 1063 feet tall. The reason of the
name of the Eiffel Tower is because it was named after Alexandre Gustave Eiffel, who was a famous
civil engineer and architect. The tower was built for the International Exhibition of Paris in memory
of the centenary of the French Revolution. It means too much for the french people, it is a sign of ...

one of the major disadvantages of The Eiffel Tower.
*The cost is often much higher to build a tower rather than a lower structure, and requires more
people and money to clean or repair from high.
2.5 Interesting facts about the Eiffle Tower
Thomas Edison visited the tower in September 1889 and left a message of congratulations for "M

In February 1912 Austrian Franz Reichelt attempted to jump off the first floor of the tower using his
home–made parachute to glide to the ground. Unfortunately during the 60 m drop his parachute
failed to open and he died on impact.
Between 1925 and 1934, three sides of the Tower accommodated advertising space for Citroen

Social Engineering And Part Of The History

In this paper the discussion goes around the main definition of social engineering and part of the
history of social engineering. Some places where social engineering could be applied and who gets
benefits out of it. These days we use social engineering a little bit differently where social
engineering can help many companies protect themselves from hackers.
Social engineering is a mix of science, psychology and art(1). Social engineering is any act that
influences a person to take an action that may or may not be in their best interest. Criminals use
social engineering tactics because it's easier to exploit our natural tendency to trust than they hack ...

N 1935 Lustig was captured after masterminding a counterfeit banknote operation so vast that it
threatened to shake confidence in the American economy where a judge in New York sentenced him
to 20 years on Alcatraz(1B).
Nowadays we use social engineering for many proposes including computer policies and many
other situations. As technology advances everyday new vulnerabilities arises all the time. In
computer word we have many vulnerabilities where social engineering can be applied. Take baiting
for instance, an attacker leaves a malware on a device, such as USB flash drive in a place he or she
knows that it will be found. When found and picked up the device the finder would load it into their
computer, accidently installing the malware. Furthermore, Baiting is one of many ways social
engineering used. Phishing on the other hand is another way social engineering is used. Where a
hacker sends a fraudulent email to pose as a legitimate email from a trusted source. When the
receiver opens the email the hacker starts to trick the recipient in sharing personal or financial
information or by asking the recipient to click on link that installs malware. Also Pretexting is
another type of social engineering where someone lies to another person to gain access to their
private data. When you get a call from someone who is pretending to be a bank worker and ask for
sensitive information personal or financial data in order to confirm

I had seen it so much on TV, in pictures, everywhere. I was now going to be able to experience it for
myself. The huge metal structure I had seen in my dreams had finally appeared in real life. Built
way before I was born, the Eiffel Tower is one of the most sought after things to see. My family and
I were four of the seven million visitors this year. It shows to, the line just to buy tickets was about
an hour long, but well worth it. We had just gotten off a bus tour that took us through the heart of
Paris, we saw old statues and monuments that had been built throughout the years. We smelled the

yelled out, "Let's go to that tower," as he pointed at the Eiffel Tower in the distance. My parents
glanced at each other for a long two seconds and said in unison, "Sure!" So it was decided that in
about fifteen minutes we were going to visit the Eiffel Tower. After the longest time, I heard the
person announce through the cheap maroon earbuds, "This is the Eiffel Tower Stop." I leaped out of
my seat very excited, ready to go. My parents said that there was going to be a very long wait and
that we would have to be patient if we wanted to go. We waited in the security line just to enter for
about thirty minutes. My brother was already complaining, saying that he was tired and wanted to
lay down. Again, my parents said that if he really wanted to go he better stop complaining. From
there the line to get tickets was a lot longer. Although it was longer it was the better of the two lines
because we all talked and had a good time waiting. Before we knew it we were first in line and were

The Tower Of The Eiffel Tower
Scene I It is a spacious twin hotel bedroom, there is a big window wall with the view of Las Vegas
Boulevard, the Eiffel tower is visible, it belongs to the Paris Las Vegas hotel. From the window's
view, there is also Planet Hollywood to a side. In front there is the Caesars Palace and the Bellagio
with its fountain show playing along with an Etta James's song, "At Last." Behind the window wall,
there is an armchair to the right and on the left there is a desk with a desk chair. A lamp, a couple of
magazines, and a mini bar is all onto the desk–all sharply organized. The TV is on, while the five
lamps that are found scattered over the room, are all off, but the curtains of the window are drawn,
thus, obscurity is only a myth in the room. It is indeed ironic, since the city's accomplice of all the
sins, which undoubtedly occurs here, is, in fact, obscurity. Vegas is sin city. Hernan and Patricia
enter through the door. Hernan is holding the card key of the room 1036 in one hand, he also brings
a backpack over his right shoulder. Patricia carries her purse and a small blue suitcase, it all
indicates that their stay will only be for a short amount of time. Hernan is a twenty–seven–year–old
man. He has a round belly, dark skin, and has dyed his hair to a light brown color. The way he
speaks and moves have a stereotypical, normative feminine attitude–it is intrinsically him. Patricia is

Essay On The Eiffel Tower
On the 31st of march, the structure of the masterpiece was completed and cherished by having the
government and the press go to the top of the tower. Unfortunately, the lifts were not in use so they
had to go by foot and it took them nearly an hour. The second level was completed by June and
celebrated on Bastille Day with fireworks. Although the Eiffel Tower was initially criticized for its
design, "it has become a global cultural icon of France and one of the most recognizable structures
in the world." With this being said, it is the most–tourist attraction that receives huge amounts of
money. Interestingly, the tower has three platforms. The first and second levels have restaurants
while the top level is open to the public in the EU.
Maintaining the appearance of the Eiffel Tower is a difficult and expensive task. Since it is made of
wrought iron, it needs to be painted regularly. Making sure it doesn't corrode by painting it every
few years is the major key to keep it looking clean. The three shades really emphasize the shape and
grandeur of the tower. The shades also stabilize the atmospheric perspective. If areas become cored,
they have to be sanded and stripped. After, a primer tone needs to be painted on as well as the actual
paint. The gaslights used by the Eiffel Tower need to be replenished with gas every once in a while.
In 1909, spotlights were used to replace these gaslights. It still takes work, time and money to
replace the bulbs. With hundreds and thousands

Weaknesses Of The Eiffel Tower
At a total height of 1,092 square feet, the Tokyo Tower (東京タワー) is one of the two most
significant skyline landmarks of Tokyo, Japan. Reminiscent but taller than the Eiffel Tower (by
thirteen metres), it was built in 1958 after the Second World War, and by design was a
telecommunications tower. For more than half a century, it symbolised the development and
economic growth of the nation. In most contemporary societies, many people, tourists and citizens
alike, look to these landmarks as emblems or representations of a city, even an entirety of a nation.
Often colossal in height, these monuments enable us to 'read' cities with a distant and objectifying

Furthermore, the current generation, recognising the same meanings to a certain extent, also linked
nostalgic narratives of "romance, dreams, family and community" (Mandujano–Salazar 11). In the
recent years, the landmark has been romanticised or iconised in popular culture, getting featured in
climactic scenes from national television and mainstream commercial films such as Godzilla. The
visual of the landmark conjures up the "overwhelming myth" (Barthes 239), inducing spectators
with positive and, at times dream–like connotations. In relation to this, reading Tokyo panoramically
has heeded tourism in Japan. Despite the tower's initial purpose, its Chief Architect Tachū Naitō,
resolute, designed the tower to further function as a tourist landmark that could "contribute to
beautify the city and, at the same time, by building a viewing platform, entertain the eyes of people."
(Kōmuten 2008, para. 3). In the first fifty years, over 150 million people (mainly tourists) visited
(Mandujano–Salazar 14). To this day, while the tower no longer functions as a broadcaster, it
remains a tourist destination and a means of commerce as Tokyo Tower memorabilia and
merchandise continue to profitably sell. Hence, the duality of the tower's narrative on Tokyo and
Japan encompasses a cornerstone in modern Japanese history, the

In spite of their appearance, these massive spans serve no practical function. They are strictly
ornamental and do not help support the structure, which was the first object built to withstand the
forces of the wind as well as gravity. Only now, more than one hundred years later, can we see the
tower in context. It has aged gracefully and no longer stands in contrast to the ornate architecture
that has survived in modern Paris. Once the exposition was over, plans were made to destroy the
Eiffel Tower. The monument that brought so much displeasure because it represented that which
was modern, new, and very un–Parisian, was actually saved by technological advances. Engineers
realized that the structure would make a perfect broadcasting tower.
The tower gets its name from Gustave Eiffel, the man who designed the monument, and also did the
girder work for the Statue of Liberty now in New York harbor. Looking at its open frame, it comes
as no surprise that Eiffel was a bridge engineer when he entered the competition along with 100
other people to design this lasting monument to French culture. In fact, it took just two years and
300 steel workers for it to reach its pre–television height of 984 feet. The construction work began
in January 1887 and was finished on March 31 1889. In spite of this height, the Eiffel Tower has just
four floors. All are served by specially designed elevators that, instead of running up a vertical track,
move along a curve dictated by the

The History of Eiffel Tower
An icon of Paris, the Eiffel Tower symbolizes the French capital unlike any other architectural
monument. It has become impossible to imagine the city without the Eiffel Tower, and yet when it
was constructed for the Paris World's Fair in 1889, it was hugely controversial. The iron edifice was
originally intended to be a temporary construction, designed to symbolize French industrial prowess
as a showcase for the World's Fair. Once it served its purpose, Parisian residents hoped the
monumental mass would be torn down. Yet the advent of radio technology extended the life of
Eiffel's tower. As the tallest building in the world at the time, the structure was readily repurposed as
a radio tower.
Eiffel's design could not have been selected for its double role, as radio technology was not yet a
consideration in 1889. Out of the over a hundred other entries into the World's Fair competition,
Eiffel's won in part because of its grandeur and ostentatiousness. After all, the World's Fair was a
showcase to the Industrial Age: and a way for individual countries to prove their supremacy as
technological powers. The display of technological prowess served distinct cultural roles: such as
the means by which French national identity could become more cohesive. As the tallest building in
the world for nearly 40 years, the Eiffel Tower showed the world that Paris, France was a hub of
progress. Another reason why the design was selected was because the use of iron represented a

Construction Of The Crystal Palace
The Crystal Palace can be described as a firm glass building that was initially made in Hyde Park,
London, in order to be the home for the Great Exhibition of 1851. It was known that "14,000
exhibitors from all around organized together in the 990,000 square foot exhibition space in order to
display models of technology that was developed during the Industrial Revolution." () It was created
and designed by a man named Joseph Paxton and is "three times bigger than St. Paul's Cathedral." ()
Once the exhibition was over, the palace was relocated to South London to a place known named
Penge Common at the top of Penge Peak close to Sydenham Hill. The Crystal Palace stood from
1854 until its demolition by fire in 1936. The Eiffel Tower was built in Paris, France in 1889. The
construction of the tower began in January of 1887 and was finished just in time to be an entry arch
for the World's fair in 1889. The World's fair was significant because it celebrated the 100th year
anniversary of the French Revolution, which took place in 1789–1799. The Eiffel Tower is known
"as the greatest prominent artificial monuments in the world and as the most visited paid
monument."() The Eiffel Tower got the name from an engineer, by the name of Gustave Eiffel,
whose corporation planned, designed, and built the famous monument that still stands today. The
Crystal Palace was originally built in 1851 in London. In January 1850 a team was created in order

My Life Of Adventures And Travels
In my entire life of adventures and travels, I had never seen anything this beautiful before. It was
December of 2013 and as I stepped off of the British Airways airplane, after fifteen hours of flying
time, with an hour layover in Heathrow Airport in London, I was exhausted and did not want
anything more than to be under a heavenly cloud of a European duvet. As we exited the terminal and
entered our driver 's car, a gust of icy, cold wind struck me like a slap. Our driver took my family
and me on a late night tour of the city that I begrudgingly tried to absorb like an already wet sponge.
Then I saw it: a city that was a sparkling goddess in the night. Paris, the city of lights. As we drove
on, I slipped in and out of drowsy consciousness. I dreamed about the tons of activities that I desired
to do over the planned month in Paris. "Wake up sweetheart", murmured my mom, "we 're home". I
slowly opened my eyes, and mindlessly took some of the five suitcases up to the flat along with my
mom, brother, and driver. When all of the bags were in their place, I noticed the long, white, think,
closed curtains. They were becoming me to open them and reveal what lay on the other side. As I
pulled the curtains aside, the blinding lights forced my eyes to adjust, like a deer in headlights. What
stood before my eyes was the legendary, world renown, Eiffel Tower. I must be sleeping, this is not
real, I continuously told myself. "Mom, Brad, come here! Quickly! Quickly!", I exclaimed,

It also received a lot of criticism for its design and was even called "metal asparagus".
It took 132 workers 2 years, 2 months and 5 days to complete the project. Despite the riskiest design
to construct, due to all the safety measures being taken, only 1 man died, during the installation of
the elevators, which travel at a 60–degree curve. The men used 18,038 pieces of wrought iron and
2.5 million rivets to build the 1023 ft. height monument which weighs 10,100 tons'. The base pillars
of the tower are oriented with the four points of the compass. It was the tallest building in the world
for over 40 years, before the Chrysler Building in New York City was built in 1930. The original
design housed an apartment for Gustave Eiffel at the very top of the tower. McCollum writes, "The
sky–high hideaway had plush rugs, oil paintings, and even a grand piano" (22). The paint on the
tower gets changed every 7 years and weighs as much as 10 elephants. During different weather
conditions, the tower can sway 5 inches and during the intense heat, can grow up to 7 inches in

Essay on Impact of the Eiffel Tower on Society
Built in 1889 to commemorate the hundred year anniversary of the French Revolution, the Eiffel
Tower has been a topic of discussion for numerous years. Designed by Gustave Eiffel and Morris
Koechlin, the Tower was built originally as a temporary structure. The pieces of this eye–catching
building were to be disassembled and melted down after twenty years. This did not happen,
however. The Eiffel Tower has become a colossal icon throughout the world; the Tower has brought
in enormous revenue and has a scientific impact on French and all of Europe's society. The Eiffel
Tower has become associated with Paris; a symbol. It is an icon for France, travel and romance,
among others. What made this Tower vastly popular is the cause of ... Show more content on

What else makes this Tower iconic is who it was designed by. Morris Koechlin, co–designer of the
Eiffel Tower, also designed the Statues of Liberty in 1887. The Tower being built by an already
famous architect gives it more initial appeal to the general public. He knew what to use for the
specific requirements of the particular structure. For the Statue of Liberty, he used copper. But
climate, location and use required a different material for the Eiffel Tower in Paris. As a result,
Koechlin and Eiffel used iron for the Eiffel Tower. Using the correct material allowed the edifice to
stand tall for several years. A symbol is everlasting. For the Tower to be infinite, it must be made
from a strong material that can endure any condition. In the storm in 1999, the building swayed
thirteen centimeters but remained secure. In heat, the Iron Lady can move up to eighteen
centimeters. This proves in its ability to withstand a vast variety of conditions. This ensures that it is
eternal which is necessary to mold it into an icon of a prosperous and exquisite city that is Paris. The
original Eiffel Tower is so famous and iconic that it has inspired others to create replicas. One
famous example is the one in Las Vegas, Nevada. Standing only half the size of the primary

I Was An Eiffel Tower

  • 1. I Was An Eiffel Tower I observed Daphne, a preschooler, and her brother Damien, a toddler, at their home around 1 pm. They are siblings. The observation lasted 30 minutes. I sat down on the couch and observed them at playing wooden blocks. Once when I arrived at my friend's house, my friend placed a big black container box at their playroom that contains of different shapes and sizes of wooden blocks. As their mom was putting at the center, Daphne and Damien were excited to go at the center to play these wooden blocks. Their floor is made of carpet. Daphne started to place a big rectangular wooden block vertically at her first base and got a bridge shape wooden block and placed it on top of the rectangle block. Then, she grabbed a short square wooden block ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Daphne accepted it and added it to her tower. She put a big cylinder on top of it holding her tower to make it still. Her tower was moving and it fell down again. She gave sad expression to her face and looked to her mom. Her mom said, "keep trying, it is ok." Then, she tried another set with different designs for her tower. Then, after a few minutes she made it and said " I did it." While Damien was walking around her piece, Daphne said, " be careful." Damien went to the container and found a dish. Daphne said to her mom, "Look Mama," while pointing to a dish. Then, her mom said, "he found a dish." Damien kept looking around and found an animal fence. Damien added some wooden blocks to Daphne's tower. The wooden block stayed still and Daphne said, "Thanks." Damien added again some wooden blocks carefully and Daphne was assisting him to put it in her tower. Daphne said to her mom, "Look we made a big tower." Damien kept adding to their work. The tower did not fall down as he placed the last triangular wooden block. Then, Daphne got a ball to their couch and throw it to the tower they made. She said, "hoop" and then, they both laughed. Then, they said together, "again." Their mom said, "let's have a contest on who has a big tower will win." Then, they were both eager to start their own tower by their own selves. At first attempt, their tower both fell down because of their fast paced and putting different shapes and sizes at their own tower. Daphne started doing her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. How Was Political Grandeur And Dignity Articulated Through... How was political grandeur and dignity articulated through early 19th century civic architecture in Paris? Use specific examples. In the wake of the French revolution and King Louis XVI of France's execution in 1773, 19th century France was a time of immense political, economic and social uncertainty as new political parties competed for power and attempted to reform Frances governing systems. The civil architecture and forms that were built during this period reflect these upheavals, as commissioned architects turned to new styles, city plans and construction methods in order to serve the political ambitions of the governing party. Architecture provided a means of articulating political grandeur and dignity both clearly and creatively, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to the instabilities caused by the Napoleonic Wars a new style of architecture did not develop during Napoleons rule, resulting in the continuation of pre–French Revolution classicism. With the intention of articulating imperialistic grandeur and referencing France as the "new Roman Empire" , an emphasis was placed on neoclassical elements and the use of columns and arches becoming more liberal. Jean Chalgrin's Arch de Triomphe provides an example of politically motivated neoclassical architecture. The triumphant arch was commissioned by Napoleon in 1806 to serve as an honorary monument and rallying point for the French military . Inspired in part by the Arch of Titus in the Roman Forum, decorative high–relief sculptures celebrating military victories from the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars adorn the structure . It is evident that Napoleon believed that as an empire that had annexed and made most of Europe into its satellites, the First French Empire deserved to have its grandeur reflected by a monument that referenced one of the world's largest and most successful ancient Empires. Through large and imposing monumental structures, Napoleon sought to reminded French society of the military and political successes that had been achieved under his rule and consequently idealise his leadership, The First ... Research Paper On The Minotaur Paris can be a very busy city, tourists trying to snap as many pictures of monuments as they can, stop and go traffic on every street, and impatient Parisians who are just trying to get to work and away from tourists. The reason for all of this bustle is because Paris hosts some of the most famous attractions in the world! The Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, and the Centre Pompidou are at the center of these attractions in Paris. Known for its renowned art, the Louvre is one of Paris' most famous art museums. Inside its walls, more than 35,000 paintings, drawings, and sculptures reside. In the Louvre, tourists will find many well–known paintings, drawings, and sculptures. The tower stands in the seventh arrondissement (district), is rich in history, and is one of the most visited attractions in Paris. The Eiffel Tower was built in 1889 for the World's Fair and was the main attraction at the fair. It was constructed to commemorate the French Continental Army. This memorial was no easy feat to build. Each of the 18,00 pieces used to construct the tower was specifically made for this creation. Two–and–a–half million thermally assembled rivets later, this 324–metre tower was successfully finished. Although many people think Gustave Eiffel is to credit for much of this creation, there are two other men, Maurice Koechlin and Emile Nouguier, who should be credited. According to Life Science.com, Koechlin and Nouguier are actually the ones who came up with the original designs for the tower. Thanks to the work of Koechlin, Nouguier, and Eiffel, the tower is Paris's most visited attraction. According to Frommer's Guide to Paris, on a high day, the tower can host over 32,000 people. That adds up to about 7 million visitors a year. When visiting this historic monument, a tourist should keep in mind the rich history and process involved in making this big ... • 9. Research Paper On The Eiffel Tower The Eiffel Tower is one of the most well–known structures in the world. Along with the Eiffel Tower, Eiffel created many structures that are famous and innovative, like the Maria Pia in Portugal and Bon Marché Department Store. He also helped with the structural integrity of the Statue of Liberty. Eiffel's father put him in a prestigious school in Paris. Although his interests were heavily influenced by his father, Eiffel found his niche in structural engineering, and he flourished in that niche. He gained much needed experience that led him to create and design his most famous structures, including but not limited to the Maria Pia and the L.A. Boileau the Younger on the Bon Marche Department Store in Paris. His major advances were mostly with structural techniques that were aesthetically pleasing technique. Gustave Eiffel's innovative design and aesthetic appeal helped create long–lasting structures. His structures, advances and his legacy transcends the years. Gustave Eiffel was born in France in 1832. Even though his last name suggests that he is German, his descendants resided in France for over a century before Eiffel was born. His father was in the French military in the time of Napoleon. He converted to civil service and eventually settled down in Dijon, where Eiffel would eventually be born, to work for his wife in her coal enterprise. Eiffel's mother was a competent business leader. She helped keep her family financially stable. Eiffel's other relatives were successful business leaders as well. His father wanted to send him to l'Ecole Polytechnique for its militaristic character in hopes that his son would join the French forces as he once did. Instead, Eiffel went to l'Ecole Centrale des Arts et Manufactures. This school put him through "a 3–yr course (6,7) during his 20th to his 23rd year, in statics, hydraulics, metallurgy, biology, and the calculus." (Ellis, 1405). This curriculum was standard. He learned general sciences. This became the foundation for his civil engineering career: statics and calculus are essential for any engineer. While in school, according to Ellis, "Eiffel's standings were linear: 11th in his first year, 22nd in his second, and 33rd in his third." (1405). This school ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If you are, you should go to the wonderful Eiffel Tower located in Paris, France. There are many reasons as of two why you should consider going there, but these are the important ones; the life of Gustave Eiffel, description of the Eiffel Tower, and the tourist attraction. Alexander–Gustave Eiffel was an only son and the first child of Catherine– Melanie Eiffel and Francois–Aleixandre. He was born on December 15, 1832, in Dijon, France. Then he went to a different academy and got a major on chemistry (which he did well in because of his uncle) and got another major in engineering. Later in life, he became a railroad building owner, and that's how it all started. He wanted to do more in his life, so he decided to do projects that are fun and creative. He wanted to build bigger structures. A French railway company had seen his outstanding work, and recommended Eiffel to build the Garabit Bridge. This was no ordinary request. This bridge was going to stand 400 feet above the Truyere River. This project was a success, so whenever the ministry of France wanted a project to be done, it would be Gustave Eiffel. Gustave had built many bridges and had done many projects in France. He also got some projects done in Scotland too. Also, Eiffel was the one who contributed in the making and building of The Statue of Liberty, located in New York, showing a sign of liberty and justice. Also showed a great connection with France and the U.S. Eiffel was at the age of 55 when he wanted to build a brand new structure being named after him. He would call it "the Eiffel tower". He also wanted it to be a great attraction for people and a great structure for France. He wanted this building to have all of the new technology to build this tower. On January 26th, 1887, workers began doing their job and fixing the base to put in the foundation. Eiffel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. The Iron Lady The Iron Lady. One of the most stand–out monuments in the world, and one of the most beautiful. It shares its nickname with Margaret Thatcher, a prime minister of England. Built by Gustave Eiffel in 1889 as an entrance to the World Fair, La Tour Eiffel would stand for twenty years before being torn down. However, the tower would later be repurposed as a radio antenna in 1909 for World War I, and still stands as a radio antenna to this day, where more than one hundred antennae beam radio and television broadcasts around the world. The Eiffel Tower is one of the most recognized, and most paid for visited monument in the world. However, when it was built, there were multiple protests against it. Most Parisians fear that La Tour Eiffel was structurally unsound or that it was an eyesore that would out–shadow other famous buildings in Paris, like Notre Dame and the Louvre. Novelist Guy de Maupassant allegedly hated the Eiffel Tower so much he ate lunch in the restaurant at the base of the tower every day because it was "the only vantage point from which (I) could completely avoid glimpsing its looming silhouette." Eiffel later stated that the tour was on the Champs de Mars and far enough away from all those other monuments and it would not risk overwhelming them. Edouard Lockroy wrote a letter of support about the tower, and explained how all the protesting was irrelevant because the project had been decided upon months before and construction for it was already underway. The Eiffel Tower has many things to offer including an abundant amount of history, two restaurants and a beautiful scenic view. I am going to evaluate the history , the two different restaurants, and the scenic view. There is a vast amount of history behind the Eiffel Tower. Here are a few things I thought were interesting. The Eiffel Tower was built by Gustave Eiffel. It was built for the 1889 exposition universal to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the french revolution. The construction of the Eiffel Tower took 2 years, 2 months and 5 days. When it was constructed, it was the defining moment of the industrial era. The Eiffel Tower was only intended to last 20 years, but it has lasted 126 years! According to the world, the Eiffel Tower is France's symbol. When you see the Eiffel Tower, most people think Paris or France. The Eiffel Tower stands 1062 feet tall and has 3 floors. It has 7 million visitors annually and 75 percent of them are foreigners. It also has 20,000 light bulbs to light it up. The lighting started in 1985 and at night it lights for 5 minutes every hour, on the hour. On the top of the Eiffel Tower, are 120 antennas, at one point in time it was used by the military to send messages around Paris. • 21. The Eiffel Tower And Architect Gustave Eiffel Name of structure The famous structure I have selected is the Eiffel tower, named after and built by an engineer Gustave Eiffel who was French. Location The Eiffel tower was oriented/built on the end of the champ de Mars near the Seine river on the left in the seventh arrondissement of Paris, France. The address of the Eiffel tower is Champ de Mars, 5 Avenue Anatole France, 75007 Paris, France. Exact height Many people, tourists and communities are amused by the fact the height of the Eiffel tower has lately (in 1957) increased by 39 feet (11.8872 metres) because an Antenna has been constructed on top of the original Eiffel tower to increase its height. Gustave Eiffel had a desire of making the Eiffel tower taller after all the structures that have been built throughout History, he wanted the Eiffel tower to fabricate development through its height. The exterior height of the Eiffel towers measures 1024 feet tall (312.1152 metres) excluding the antennas. Currently, the exact height of the Eiffel tower measures 1063 feet (324. 0024 metres) including the antennas that were constructed on top. Dimensions The Eiffel tower is one of the world's tallest structure ever built. The Eiffel tower has a height of 312.1152 metres excluding the antennas and the height with the antennas that was constructed in 1957 is 324.0024 metres. • 23. Narrative Essay On The Eiffel Tower I woke up thinking about the contest again, but I pushed it aside and got ready to go touring again and today we were going to the Eiffel Tower. We headed out at 10:00am and drove there in a cab, we arrived and the view from our room was no match to the real–deal, it was outstanding and a lot bigger than I imaged too. We got in line for tickets and it didn't take to long, so we found our tour guide, so that she could take us up in it, I was nervous and excited at the same time because I don't like heights, but I do love scenery. We went up in an elevator to the "first floor" or the first platform and let me tell you,it was as beautiful as a thousand roses, literally, there was thousands of roses everywhere, it was magnificent. After a while we got back on the elevator to go to the top and on the way up the tour guide told us that it is about 108 floor tall, twice the size of the one is Vegas. The elevator stopped and we stepped out. The breeze was perfect and so was the weather, we walked out to a telescope and plopped in a quarter. All I could say was "wow," my mom and dad were almost speechless too. Once we got up there I realized i wasn't afraid anymore, hopefully the contest was going to be the same way, I took it all in, along with a thousand photos my mom took of us and everything else. We kept looking at everything, it was like nothing I've ever experienced before, it was perfect and so delicate, words were not enough to explain it. The city was busy and all the cars and people looked like ants, the park around us was perfect, the grass, the trees everything seemed so perfect around us, at least until it started to pour rain. We ran into the elevator and luckily there was enough room for all of us because there were people who didn't get in and i was sure they were drenched by now. After some time we got to the bottom and ran to our cab as fast as cheetahs, but it didn't matter, we were drenched as well. We got in our cab and drove to our hotel to change and dry off. We wandered the hotel after we changed, to look at all the paintings and statues. It stopped raining after a little while and we decided to go shopping around the boutiques, the look of the boutiques made me think that everything was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This leaves no question as to why Lurhmann pays tribute to such a master and a great gene. A beautiful painted iron trunk. An old painting in a stunning frame. Light, airy gauze tapestries. Everything from fine china to sturdy Pyrex. The place is humming with life. Everything within the store has a sense of warmth, history, and character. My sister and I decide to visit an antique store that a family friend mentioned to us last week. I like shopping at antique stores, because unlike department stores you never know what you'll come across. Every so often when I visit antique stores, I don't go in for anything in particular but rather rummage through dusty shelves of broken, old things when I miraculously stumble upon a hidden treasure. I was a little disappointed when nothing really caught my eye, until I spotted a small muted tone globe sitting upon a brown round metal base, tucked away behind an old rustic cabinet in the corner of the store. It was a vintage Replogle (world's largest manufacturer of globes) ten–inch precision globe. There is some wear on the globe and the base has some minor scratches. Overall it's in good condition. I decided for twenty bucks it was a steal. Besides, I have always wanted a globe for my desk. • 39. The Effel Tower And The Eiffel Tower By Henri Rousseau Henri Rousseau, born in May 21, 1844, was a self–taught artist who started his artistic career when he was forty. He began his life working as a clerk, then he joined the French army after being accused of stealing money from his employer. He later moved to Paris and obtained a job working for the French Customs Office, and it was there that he began painting part–time. It was really this background of his that allowed his paintings to be original and uninfluenced by traditional painting techniques. Since he was a self–taught artist and had no significant experience with painting, he had the freedom to paint as he perceived and as he imagined. Henri Rousseau was a man who liked to exaggerate his life to make himself seem adventurous and exciting. He made up stories about his time in the military and overstated his importance in the Customs office where he worked. This was also reflected in his artwork where manipulated the painting to emphasize beauty and excitement. In 1898 Henri Rousseau painted The Eiffel Tower, and during this time the Eiffel Tower had been opened for just about about ten years so it was still fairly new. The painting features the Seine River and the Eiffel tower perfectly aligned to create a beautiful scenery. In this particular painting he was inspired by both the Eiffel Tower and the Seine River, but in reality, these two attractions never align how Rousseau portrays them. Newspapers of the day were filled with angry letters from the arts community of Paris. The pig iron structure of the Eiffel Tower weighs 7,300 tones, while the entire structure, including non–metal components, is approximately 10,000 tones. As a demonstration of the economy of design, if the 7,300 tones of the metal structure were melted down it would fill the 125–metre–square base to a depth of only 6 cm, assuming the density of the metal to be 7.8 tones per cubic meter. Depending on the ambient temperature, the top of the tower may shift away from the sun by up to 18 cm because of thermal expansion of the metal on the side facing the sun. Maintenance of the tower includes applying 50 to 60 tones of paint every seven years to protect it from rust. The height of the Eiffel Tower varies by 15 cm due to temperature. In order to maintain a uniform appearance to an observer on the ground, three separate colors of paint are used on the tower, with the darkest on the bottom and the lightest at the top. On occasion the color of the paint is changed; the tower is currently painted a shade of bronze. • 45. Essay On The Eiffel Tower The history of the Eiffel Tower is one of a kind, because the Eiffel Tower itself is one of the most magnificent structures in Paris. The history of the tower is vast, covering many parts of history, both internally and externally. A visitor of the Eiffel Tower should know everything about the tower from inception until todays time period. Built in 1889 by Gustave Eiffel in celebration of the one hundred years since the French Revolution and the celebration of the World's Fair. Interestingly, the contraction of the tower took two years, two months, and five days. The architectural design was given to Eiffel et Compagnie, a consulting and construction firm owned by Alexandre–Gustave Eiffel, who often gets the credit for building the tower; while it was actually one of his employees Maurice Koechlin, who came up with and created the concept of the Eiffel tower. I believe the Eiffel tower is significant towards the history of Paris, since it was the most impressively built monument; representation towards the city in terms of symbolism and strength in war–time or attack. During the early 20th century, the Eiffel Tower had been used as the first radio transmission station in 1903 and transmitted the first radio program in 1925. Historically, the tower was the tallest building in the world, until 1930 when New York built the Chrysler Building that is standing at 1,046 feet. Before the invention of electricity, the Eiffel Tower was first illuminated by 10,000 gas lamps, it was not until 1985 that the towers golden lights with 336 projectors using sodium bulbs to make an orange hue were implicated; in 2004 these golden lights were replaced with more environmentally friendly ones. Interestingly, during the mid–1920s, a famous con–man named Victor Lustig wanted to scam people using the Eiffel Tower as a scape–goat. He went to Paris in May 1925 and planned a scheme in that investors called "the big store". At last Lustig sealed his gangster fate by doing a few con– man known things. With this being said, it is the most–tourist attraction that receives huge amounts of money. Interestingly, the tower has three platforms. The first and second levels have restaurants while the top level is open to the public in the EU. Maintaining the appearance of the Eiffel Tower is a difficult and expensive task. Since it is made of wrought iron, it needs to be painted regularly. Making sure it doesn't corrode by painting it every few years is the major key to keep it looking clean. The three shades really emphasize the shape and grandeur of the tower. The shades also stabilize the atmospheric perspective. If areas become cored, they have to be sanded and stripped. After, a primer tone needs to be painted on as well as the actual paint. The gaslights used by the Eiffel Tower need to be replenished with gas every once in a while. In 1909, spotlights were used to replace these gaslights. It still takes work, time and money to replace the bulbs. With hundreds and thousands ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 57. Weaknesses Of The Eiffel Tower At a total height of 1,092 square feet, the Tokyo Tower (東京タワー) is one of the two most significant skyline landmarks of Tokyo, Japan. Reminiscent but taller than the Eiffel Tower (by thirteen metres), it was built in 1958 after the Second World War, and by design was a telecommunications tower. For more than half a century, it symbolised the development and economic growth of the nation. In most contemporary societies, many people, tourists and citizens alike, look to these landmarks as emblems or representations of a city, even an entirety of a nation. Often colossal in height, these monuments enable us to 'read' cities with a distant and objectifying gaze. In the following pages, first, the strengths then weaknesses of reading a city panoramically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, the current generation, recognising the same meanings to a certain extent, also linked nostalgic narratives of "romance, dreams, family and community" (Mandujano–Salazar 11). In the recent years, the landmark has been romanticised or iconised in popular culture, getting featured in climactic scenes from national television and mainstream commercial films such as Godzilla. The visual of the landmark conjures up the "overwhelming myth" (Barthes 239), inducing spectators with positive and, at times dream–like connotations. In relation to this, reading Tokyo panoramically has heeded tourism in Japan. Despite the tower's initial purpose, its Chief Architect Tachū Naitō, resolute, designed the tower to further function as a tourist landmark that could "contribute to beautify the city and, at the same time, by building a viewing platform, entertain the eyes of people." (Kōmuten 2008, para. 3). In the first fifty years, over 150 million people (mainly tourists) visited (Mandujano–Salazar 14). To this day, while the tower no longer functions as a broadcaster, it remains a tourist destination and a means of commerce as Tokyo Tower memorabilia and merchandise continue to profitably sell. Hence, the duality of the tower's narrative on Tokyo and Japan encompasses a cornerstone in modern Japanese history, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In spite of their appearance, these massive spans serve no practical function. They are strictly ornamental and do not help support the structure, which was the first object built to withstand the forces of the wind as well as gravity. Only now, more than one hundred years later, can we see the tower in context. It has aged gracefully and no longer stands in contrast to the ornate architecture that has survived in modern Paris. Once the exposition was over, plans were made to destroy the Eiffel Tower. The monument that brought so much displeasure because it represented that which was modern, new, and very un–Parisian, was actually saved by technological advances. Engineers realized that the structure would make a perfect broadcasting tower. The tower gets its name from Gustave Eiffel, the man who designed the monument, and also did the girder work for the Statue of Liberty now in New York harbor. Looking at its open frame, it comes as no surprise that Eiffel was a bridge engineer when he entered the competition along with 100 other people to design this lasting monument to French culture. In fact, it took just two years and 300 steel workers for it to reach its pre–television height of 984 feet. The construction work began in January 1887 and was finished on March 31 1889. In spite of this height, the Eiffel Tower has just four floors. All are served by specially designed elevators that, instead of running up a vertical track, move along a curve dictated by the ... • 61. The History of Eiffel Tower An icon of Paris, the Eiffel Tower symbolizes the French capital unlike any other architectural monument. It has become impossible to imagine the city without the Eiffel Tower, and yet when it was constructed for the Paris World's Fair in 1889, it was hugely controversial. The iron edifice was originally intended to be a temporary construction, designed to symbolize French industrial prowess as a showcase for the World's Fair. Once it served its purpose, Parisian residents hoped the monumental mass would be torn down. Yet the advent of radio technology extended the life of Eiffel's tower. As the tallest building in the world at the time, the structure was readily repurposed as a radio tower. Eiffel's design could not have been selected for its double role, as radio technology was not yet a consideration in 1889. Out of the over a hundred other entries into the World's Fair competition, Eiffel's won in part because of its grandeur and ostentatiousness. After all, the World's Fair was a showcase to the Industrial Age: and a way for individual countries to prove their supremacy as technological powers. The display of technological prowess served distinct cultural roles: such as the means by which French national identity could become more cohesive. As the tallest building in the world for nearly 40 years, the Eiffel Tower showed the world that Paris, France was a hub of progress. Another reason why the design was selected was because the use of iron represented a revolutionary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Construction Of The Crystal Palace The Crystal Palace can be described as a firm glass building that was initially made in Hyde Park, London, in order to be the home for the Great Exhibition of 1851. () It was created and designed by a man named Joseph Paxton and is "three times bigger than St. Paul's Cathedral." () Once the exhibition was over, the palace was relocated to South London to a place known named Penge Common at the top of Penge Peak close to Sydenham Hill. The Crystal Palace stood from 1854 until its demolition by fire in 1936. The Eiffel Tower was built in Paris, France in 1889. The construction of the tower began in January of 1887 and was finished just in time to be an entry arch for the World's fair in 1889. The World's fair was significant because it celebrated the 100th year anniversary of the French Revolution, which took place in 1789–1799. The Eiffel Tower is known "as the greatest prominent artificial monuments in the world and as the most visited paid monument."() The Eiffel Tower got the name from an engineer, by the name of Gustave Eiffel, whose corporation planned, designed, and built the famous monument that still stands today. • 65. My Life Of Adventures And Travels In my entire life of adventures and travels, I had never seen anything this beautiful before. It was December of 2013 and as I stepped off of the British Airways airplane, after fifteen hours of flying time, with an hour layover in Heathrow Airport in London, I was exhausted and did not want anything more than to be under a heavenly cloud of a European duvet. As we exited the terminal and entered our driver 's car, a gust of icy, cold wind struck me like a slap. Our driver took my family and me on a late night tour of the city that I begrudgingly tried to absorb like an already wet sponge. Then I saw it: a city that was a sparkling goddess in the night. Paris, the city of lights. As we drove on, I slipped in and out of drowsy consciousness. I dreamed about the tons of activities that I desired to do over the planned month in Paris. "Wake up sweetheart", murmured my mom, "we 're home". I slowly opened my eyes, and mindlessly took some of the five suitcases up to the flat along with my mom, brother, and driver. When all of the bags were in their place, I noticed the long, white, think, closed curtains. They were becoming me to open them and reveal what lay on the other side. As I pulled the curtains aside, the blinding lights forced my eyes to adjust, like a deer in headlights. What stood before my eyes was the legendary, world renown, Eiffel Tower. I must be sleeping, this is not real, I continuously told myself. "Mom, Brad, come here! Quickly! Quickly!", I exclaimed, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Tower being built by an already famous architect gives it more initial appeal to the general public. He knew what to use for the specific requirements of the particular structure. For the Statue of Liberty, he used copper. But climate, location and use required a different material for the Eiffel Tower in Paris. As a result, Koechlin and Eiffel used iron for the Eiffel Tower. Using the correct material allowed the edifice to stand tall for several years. A symbol is everlasting. For the Tower to be infinite, it must be made from a strong material that can endure any condition. In the storm in 1999, the building swayed thirteen centimeters but remained secure. In heat, the Iron Lady can move up to eighteen centimeters. This proves in its ability to withstand a vast variety of conditions. This ensures that it is eternal which is necessary to mold it into an icon of a prosperous and exquisite city that is Paris.
