2. Climax Metal Products Company...
Who Are We?

3. Rigid Coupling…
What Does It Do?
• Basic purpose is to serve as a component for timing, joining or aligning of
shafts at lower speeds and torque, especially where zero backlash is
desired
• Applicable for aligned shafts only
• They are the most basic coupling available
• Often the most cost-effective coupling option
• Compact and economical

6. What Types of Rigid Couplings are
Available from Climax?
• Climax offers both a domestic and import line of rigid
couplings
– Set Screw Couplings
– One-Piece Clamping Couplings
• recessed and non-recessed screw head styles
• available as a step-bore clamping coupling
– Two-Piece Clamping Couplings
• recessed and non-recessed screw head styles
• available as a step-bore clamping coupling
– Re-Machinable Couplings
• Recessed screw head style
– Custom made-to-order
7. Set Screw Coupling…
Characteristics:
• Set screw couplings are the most common
and the most economical shaft coupling design
• These couplings hold the shaft via cup point set screws that impinge into
the shaft, which provides the holding power of the coupling
• Design requires disassembly of shaft components when the coupling
needs to be replaced
• Set screw couplings are manufactured from steel, stainless steel, and
aluminum, with or without a keyway
• Steel products include a black oxide finish
• Also available with four set screws for extra
holding power
8. One-Piece Clamping Coupling…
Characteristics:
• One-piece clamping couplings have four
socket head cap screws
• One-piece design allows for additional holding
power than a set screw coupling but does not mar the shaft
• Design requires disassembly of shaft components when the coupling
needs to be replaced
• One-piece clamping couplings are manufactured from steel, stainless
steel, and aluminum, with or without a keyway
• Steel products include a black oxide finish
9. Two-Piece Clamping Coupling…
Characteristics:
• Two-piece clamping couplings have eight socket
head cap screws
• With eight screws, this style provides greater
holding power than a one-piece clamping coupling
• Main advantage with the two-piece style is the ability to install the
coupling without any major disassembly to other components
• Two-piece clamping couplings are manufactured from steel and stainless
steel, with or without a keyway
• Steel products include a black oxide finish
10. Re-Machinable Couplings…
Characteristics:
• This Climax unique two-piece clamping coupling has an
undersized ID that allows room to re-bore and key the ID
without damaging the clamp screws
• Re-machinable couplings allow for customer customization and limits
downtime and resulting profits
• Available in from stock in steel and stainless steel
• Steel products include a black oxide finish
11. Application Uses…
• Joining aligned
shafts
• Provide zero
backlash
• Compact and
economical
• Can be welded in place
