3. HISTORY
Boeing researcher Thomas Caudwell coined the term augmented reality
in 1990, to describe how the head-mounted displays that electricians
used when assembling complicated wiring harnesses worked. One of the
first commercial applications of AR technology was the yellow "first down"
line that began appearing in televised football games sometime in 1998.
Today, Google glass and heads-up displays in car windshields are perhaps
the most well-known consumer AR products, but the technology is used
in many industries including healthcare, public safety, gas and oil, tourism
and marketing.

Devices
Sensors and Cameras
• They gather a user's real world interactions and communicate them to be processed and
interpreted.
Projection
• The projector can essentially turn any surface into an interactive environment.
Processing
• These devices require significant computer processing power and utilize many of the same
components that our smartphones do.

• Mirrors are used in augmented reality devices to assist with the way your eye views the virtual

Augmented reality devices are often controlled either by touch a pad or voice
commands. The touch pads are often somewhere on the device that is easily
reachable. They work by sensing the pressure changes that occur when a user tap
