1. RUBRIC for SCALES
Scales 250 points Required Time: 3 minutes
Consider these skills when assigning a score:
Correct Pitches & Ranges
1) Student plays all pitches correctly with correct ranges. 76-100 points
2) Student plays a majority of pitches correctly with correct 51-75 points
ranges.
3) Student plays half of the pitches correctly and/or incorrect 26-50 points
ranges.
4) Student plays very few pitches correctly and/or incorrect 0-25 points
ranges.
Technique & Rhythm (Quarter note followed by six 8th notes in each octave)
1) Student plays using correct scale pattern & finger technique. 41-50 point
2) Student plays correct scale pattern with few technical errors. 21-40 points
3) Student plays incorrect pattern or has several technique 0-20 points
problems.
Tone & Intonation
1) Student plays in tune and with characteristic tone. 41-50 points
2) Student has some tuning or tone problems. 21-40 points
3) Student does not play in tune or has poor tone quality. 0-20 points
Articulation ( Tongue up & Slur down) & Tempo (120)
1) Student plays assigned articulation and at or faster than 41-50 points
required tempo.
2) Student plays at required tempo with minor flaws in 21-40 points
articulation.
3) Student plays below required tempo with many flaws in 0-20 points
articulation.
