1. Morning: P5T Blind Orienteering
Afternoon: Orienteering together with
the Hub children
2. We did a searching game with Martyn. We went in pairs and I was
with Demi. We practised with buckets on our heads so that we
learned to trust our partner. Then we had to race against each
other. Every three buzzers we had to swap blindfolds and a little
beeper thing was attached to the person holding the map. We had
11 stations to go to. If you were blindfolded, you had to use your
senses to guess objects in the bags. In the afternoon we did the
orienteering with the Hub children. I was with Olivia. Her disability
is that she can’t see well and she can’t walk. I enjoyed going around
the course with Olivia and I hope to do it again.

3. In my group I was the one who
got blindfolded and it was very
very good but it was HARD! My
mum was a helper. We had to
find a way around the field and
follow a course. In the afternoon
17 of us were chosen to go with
the Hub. I did the orienteering
with Emily. It was the BEST DAY
EVER! Christen
4. I liked being with Nathanial in the
afternoon because he liked being
with me. It was hard work walking
around the course with him because
he held my hand so tightly that it
turned purple. I learned how to speak
to Nathanial and how to help him. He
knew several of the objects. I would
love to do it again because I really
enjoyed myself and Nathanial is a
really nice boy. Thomas
5. I had to look at the map while I
had the bucket on my head and
tell Tobiasz where to go but
directing him was really difficult.
Sean
I thought it was really hard!
We learned that if you’re blind,
you will need somebody with you
to help and guide you around
places. Kai
6. My group was with the Green group in
the Hub. I was with Kayla and she
managed to guess the leaves, the grass
and the water. She did quite well and I
enjoyed taking her around all the
stations. The morning’s activities were
hard and helped me to understand what
it was like to do a course when you can’t
see. Cameron
7. On Wednesday we did orienteering
outside with Martyn Pegg. We had
partners and I was with Christen.
One person has a bucket on their
head and the other person guides
them around the place. When it was
my turn to have the bucket on the
head, I was quite scared and I had
to put my thumb up so that I could
at least see the ground. After that
we partnered up with Danielle. We
had to go around the school with
one person blindfolded. They put
their hand in a bag and guess what
the object was.
I learned that your shadow always
faces North and that North in
Tranent is the direction of the sea.
Ellie
8. When Martyn came to our
school it was really good fun.
We were learning about senses.
It was hard when we had the
bucket on our head and we had
to face North, South, East and
West with the buckets on our
head! There were pegs stuck in
the ground and we had the
magic finger. Every time you
had completed a peg, you put
the magic finger in the slot and
it would beep.
9. We couldn’t see! It was really
funny because you went all over
the place! We went around
blindfolded and had to guess
the objects. In the afternoon I
was with Rachael and she was
really funny. Rachael loved
doing the course and she got it
straight away! Emma
10. We were learning what it would
be like to be blind. Karla
I was paired up with Jonathan in
the Hub and he was really good
at the course. We came second!
Benjamin
11. Yesterday we did orienteering.
It was quite hard when we had
a bucket on our head and when
we had the blindfold on. Me
and Benjamin got the fastest
time and so we won. We then
did the course with the Hub .
The man who did the
orienteering with us was called
Martyn, and my mum was a I loved when we did the
helper. Nathan orienteering with Martyn. It
was fun when we put the
buckets on our heads. I was
handcuffed to Michael. It was
Paralympic week for the Hub
and that was fun because we
got to take them out and help
them with the course. It was a
good week and I’d like to do it
again. Kay
12. We did an orienteering game with Martyn to see
what it would be like to be blind. Nico had the
bucket on his head and I had the map and told him
where to go. It was such fun. Then people were
handcuffed together and at the end we got a print
out of our times. I learned a lot . Amy
I really enjoyed going with the Hub boys and
girls. I helped take them around the school
to find the objects. Nico
13. It was a good challenge. I
thought it was amazing! Ellie
was with Sophie in the Hub
and she was the giggling one.
She did the orienteering well.
