2. WIDA Consortium / CAL / Metritech What is an MPI ? An MPI is a Model Performance Indicator. In other words, it is an objective that determines how the student is reaching his goal. It provides a support stem that helps LEP students feel more comfortable with acquiring academic content.
This training module provides background on the organization and activities of the WIDA Consortium. At the end of this module, participants will be familiar with the structure of the WIDA Consortium, as well as the products and services it offers to its member states. Participants will also become acquainted with the WIDA English language proficiency standards, and their centrality to the creation of the ACCESS for ELLs®. In addition, this training module provides a brief overview of the ACCESS for ELLs® test battery and administration process.
Teachers of students with limited English proficiency can create and adapt MPIs to guide their instruction. MPIs can be used to develop language objectives in all classrooms. The Consortium has provided more than 1000 MPIs—examples (models) of assessable language skills.
