Identify Concerns Prepare a science center for children ages 4 and 5 Make sure the activity is entertaining and can hold their attention for 7-10 minutes.
Set a Goal Use resources in my resource container Develop an activity incorporating Science Students will be engaged for 7-10 minutes Activity will be interactive Activity will incorporate at least three of the five senses
Form a Plan Gather resources from classroom text, workbooks, and the internet Review previous science center lesson plans Gather science center resource materials and supplies Acquire knowledge regarding developmental stages Develop age appropriate science activities for 4-5 yr olds
Act Write lesson plans for age appropriate science centers Gather necessary materials for science activities Teach from the science center lesson plans Evaluate the lessons taught Improve and revise the lesson plans
Follow Up I prepared my resource materials I rehearsed how to present my lesson plan to the judges Prepared a lesson plan that appropriately represented the theme
Guidance Philosophy Kelsey Jumper FHS 2600 Guidance is the ability to rear children in a positive direction. Guidance should always be positive and help the children learn in a way that makes them feel safe and build self-esteem. This will help them to be able to behave and respond appropriately on their own in future situations. In our preschool we use positive guidance and manage the children’s behavior by keeping them involved in fun activities and sparking their interests. This helps to minimize behavior problems because it gives them an alternative way to use their energy. We also make sure the activities are developmentally appropriate for the children so they don’t get frustrated with what they are learning. When behavior problems do occur we redirect the children to more positive actions, if needed, we remove them from the situation and give them time to cool down and remind them positively how to respond in those situations. We always try to make our preschool a fun yet guided learning environment that both the students and teachers enjoy. Overall, I believe that guidance should always be asserted in a positive manner. Guidance should help the children learn to behave positively in all situations. This will benefit the children greatly in the future, and help them teach other children how to behave positively.
Kelsey Jumper 4-5 yrs. Science Center Bird Feeders The children will learn that birds eat bird seeds and can find the bird seeds hanging in a tree. They will learn that they can feed the birds and their actions effect other animals.
A large table near a sink for quick clean up. Pine cones, bird seeds, peanut butter, and string. Pine cones, bird seeds, peanut butter, and string. Tie a string to each pinecone long enough to hang it from a tree. Have the children spread peanut butter all over a pinecone with a popsicle stick. The children will then dip their peanut butter covered pine cones in a bag of bird seeds. Explain the the kids that birds like the seeds and will eat them if they hang it in a tree. The children can then take the bird feeders home and observe them to see if and birds come to eat the seeds. I would let them do the steps they are capable of and then help them with the steps that are to advanced for them. For example, if they were too young or a special needs student a would spread the peanut butter on for them and then let them dip the pinecone in the bird seed.
Science Lesson Plan For our science center one day we made bird feeders and talked about the ecosystem. We let the children spread peanut butter all over pine cones. The children then dipped the peanut butter pine cones in bird seeds and were able to take them home to hang them in a tree and observe the birds eating the seeds. The children really enjoyed this activity and it was a learning experience that was able to hold their attention for the needed 7-10 minutes. It was also something they were able to take home and continue to observe and learn from
This day we went on a nature walk and found item outside to use in our art project.
We practiced counting with cotton balls on Santa’s beard!
The kids really enjoy their art centers!
We enjoy going into our school commons to play when it is cold outside!
