Prodigious Phrasal verbs
What are phrasal verbs?
idiomatic phrases consisting of a verb
and a particle:
adverb=take after, preposition=put off, combination of both=look forward to This
phrase creates a meaning, different
from the original verb.

Some phrasal verbs are Intransitive.
An intransitive verb cannot be followed by
an object.
Example:
He suddenly showed up.
What’s going on?
Next time you’re in my area, why don’t you drop by?
I love eating out in Bogota, there are so many great places.

Some phrasal verbs are Transitive. A
transitive verb can be followed by an
object.
Example:
I made up the story.
I have to call off our next class, I’m having my hair done.
Would you mind looking over my email, I want a 2nd opinion.
Let’s set up a meeting for later in the week.
I turned down Huge’s offer because I love it here so much.
I ran across an old friend the other day.

Some transitive phrasal verbs are
separable. The object is placed between
the verb and the preposition. WARNING! if the
object is a pronoun, You must put the object between the verb and the
preposition.
Example:
I talked my mother into letting me borrow the car.
If you disagree with someone, you could talk it over.
Before buying a car, you should try it out.

Some transitive phrasal verbs are
inseparable. The object is placed after
the preposition.
Example:
I ran into an old friend yesterday.
We’ve been going through tons of coffee lately.
Before you send an email, you should go over it for errors.
The Police are looking into a Drug Rehab. Centre in Funza.
I know your girlfriend left you for your brother, but get over it!
1) Tell us about a time you/someone you know, did up a house/apartment/room/car. What happened?
2) Tell us about something that you want to give up? Why do you want to give it up? How do you plan on doing it?
3) Who do you take after, in your family? How (physically/personality-wise)?
4) Talk about something that you put off/are putting off? What is it? Why are you putting it off?
5) When is your next vacation? Where are you going to go? What are you going to do? Are you looking forward to it? Is there
anything else that you are looking forward to right now?
6) Do you like to eat out? How often? Where?
7) What time do you usually get up? What’s the first thing you do when you get up?
8) Make up a crazy story. Anything you can imagine, how crazy can you be?
9) Tell us about an offer or opportunity you turned down? What was it? Why did you turn it down?
10) Have you ever run across someone unexpectedly? Who was it? What happened?
11) Have you ever talked someone into something? What was it? How did you do it?
12) Have you ever used up your vacation days very early in the year? Why? Do you usually use up your vacation days right
away, or do you save them? Why?
13) Who do you look up to in your life? How would you describe this person/these people?
14) Describe a plan you had/made, that fell through. What was it? Why did it fall through?
15) Tell your group about something that you would like to brush up on. What is it? Why?
16) Have you ever come across something valuable in the street? What was it? What did you do?
17) What do the following initialisms stand for? U.S.A., U.N., N.G.O., E.G., B.B.C., N.A.S.A., N.Z.
18) Tell us about some kind of activity or hobby that you’d like to take up?
19) Describe a time in your life when you were in hot water? What happened?
20) Tell us about a situation when you got your foot in the door, and eventually you were successful in that process?
