Our music video will be
Performance and Conceptual
based, possibly with stop motion
animation.
Our video shall contain plenty of
close shots of our performer. We
will be experimenting with
composition and light, to create
engaging visuals.
We will also be testing various
tracking/ moving shots,
handheld/still (photographic)
shots.
Our performer will be female. She
will be wearing an over-sized
mismatching suit. What we will be
aiming to convey is the
performer’s awkwardness and
how they are ill-at-ease with
themselves, and who they are,
and hopefully the suit will
emphasise this.
We want the performer to move
and act in a certain manner –
gawky, awkward
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v
=5nCJXow_H8Q)
PERFORMANCE
We are discussing of having a structure to our video – since we don’t
have a narrative there is a chance that everything will end up random
and nonsensical, so we thought of perhaps being ambiguous with our
performers gender at the beginning our the video – concealing her
face, so the audience would think it is a guy singing (or at least make
them question whether the performer is male or female).
Two possible ways in which can reveal the gender of the singer:
- The mask could get damaged during the song, little by little
- Or she could simply take it off during the last instrumental section

Her taking off the mask and revealing that she is a girl will break the
illusion of the “live performance” and will make the audience realise that
the performance isn’t authentic – the singer lip-synching to a man’s
voice. As she continues to lip-synch, to the viewers it will be as if she is
singing and not singing at the same time.
CONCEPTUAL
For the conceptual side of the video, we are thinking of creating a character around the
performer – our theme being isolation, we were inspired by the title sequence of the film “Le
Fabuleux Destin d’ Amelie Poulain”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATJtD54Ko10
There will be shots (mostly close-ups) of objects such as Russian dolls, dice, puppets etc… and
shots of the performer playing with these objects, or painting faces on her fingers etc…
These various shots will tell the audience of the performer’s childhood – how as a child she
didn’t socialise with other children and instead created a world of her own in which to pass her
time.

Jan von Holleben is a photographer who did this project called “She Dreams..” which involved
photographing a woman acting out her dreams. We really like his work and may recreate some
of his photographs, but as videos.
Stop Motion

The stop motion animation will be part of the conceptual side and will depict
the objects moving by themselves.

Target Audience
This is Laura. She is 18, and a vegetarian. she enjoys
a variety of things such as reading books by authors
like Sylvia Plath and Virginia Woolf. She is in her first
year of University studying English literature and
enjoys her own company. Studying so far away from
home, she relates to the band as the lyrics deal with
isolation and loneliness.
She spends her free time using blogging platforms
such as Livejournal and Tumblr in which she
expresses her thoughts and feelings to readers who
she feels can relate to her.
She enjoys going to charity shops and places with
free Wi-Fi.

She rarely watches television but when she does she
uses BBCiplayer to watch television shows such as
The Thick Of It, and other satirical programs.

Laura is a Misanthrope.
Props and equipment we shall be using:
 Lighting: 2 Redheads, 1 Lilliput
 Camera: Estelle’s and the college’s cameras
 Tripod and dolly
 Costume: suit, mask, glasses

Our chosen location for the performance is the drama studio. The area will be
blacked out and the studio lighting will be used to light the performer in diverse
ways.
There is no set location for the stop motion – each of us will try out stop motion
in our homes, and in the drama studio.
Hafsah: Producer
Rebecca: Camera Person
Estelle: Director
All: Editing
The Performance shall be shot
 during the half term
And we will be experimenting
 with stop motion this week
