HOW DO I GET MY
HONORS COURSES?

2.  You need a minimum of 24 hours of Honors Course Credit
 You must have 6 of those hours at 300+ level
 You must have 3 hours of Honors Thesis credit, either HON
499 or some other course that you count for your Honors
Capstone.
 That’s 15 (any level) + 6 (300+ level) + 3 (thesis) = 24 hours
 You must complete your Honors Capstone Project or Thesis
(The details of this will be covered in another FYE class)
 Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.25.
 Honors Courses can be either self-standing or contract
courses.

3.  You are encouraged to check with your adviser
anytime you have questions.
 Take a moment to check your resource sheet and see
who your advisers are (you will have one Honors
Adviser + your home college advisers). You can book
appointments at http://www.uah.edu/academic-
advising
 But you can do a lot on your own.

4.  On your phones, tablets, computers. Share if you don’t have
one…
 uah.edu > “I AM A” dropdown select “Current Student”
 Grey box “Course Catalog” under “Information”
 + Undergraduate > + “Colleges and Departments”
 Select your College, then your major field, then the “Majors”
tab. Select the top major that appears.
 Look at both the Requirements tab and the Pathways tab.

6.  Go to uah.edu/honors
 Select “Honors Advisement and Forms” from navigation bar on
left
 Select your college worksheet. This is a fillable electronic
form that you can download, fill out, and save or print.
 For now – just look at the form online.

 Please note that this Honors Worksheet may change year-to-
year as new Honors Courses become available. Always check
to make sure you have the most up-to-date version.

7. You can see an unofficial transcript at any time by logging into
Self Service Banner.
 Log into my.uah.edu
 Select “Student>>” under Self Service Main Pages (or select
the “Student” Tab)
 Select “Student Records”
 Select “Academic Transcript”
 Leave the two drop-down selection menus alone
 Click Submit
This is an unofficial record of all your courses, your hours
earned, and your term and cumulative GPA.

8.  CAPP helps gauge your progress towards your degree. Once
you create an evaluation, CAPP will show you what
courses/requirements you have completed and what you still
need to take.
 There will be sections for General Education requirements,
your major requirements, Honors diploma, minors, etc. Keep
in mind that CAPP is set up based on the catalog year you
come into the university. If you change catalog years, the
requirements may not be the same.
 You can also use the "What-if Analysis" to see what other
requirements/time to graduate would be if you decided to
change majors.
 CAPP can be tricky to use depending on your major. If you are
uncertain, your college advisor is ALWAYS the best source of
information!

9. How to find your CAPP degree evaluator:
 Log into my.uah.edu
 Select “Student>>” under Self Service Main Pages (or select
the “Student” Tab)
 Select “Student Records”
 Select “Degree Evaluation Undergraduate (CAPP)
 Select the current term in the drop-down menu (this should
default to the current term)
 Click “Submit”
 Below the Solid Line, select the text that says “Generate New
Evaluation”
 Select your Program
 Click “Generate Request”

10. The PowerPoint slides with this information are available on Canvas
under “Files.” We also have hard copies here if you’d like them. Using
all the resources you now have, create 2 documents.
 Document 1: Write out your next term’s schedule. Also, sketch out
a 4-year plan of study for yourself. This four year plan should not
be exact, just write up something to give you an idea of which
courses you will need going forward.
 Document 2: Fill out the Honors Worksheet for your college,
deciding which Honors courses you’ve taken and which you’d like to
take. (Don’t forget Honors thesis hours!) You can find these
Worksheets at uah.edu.honors > Honors Advisement and Forms.
Save the PDF worksheet with your name in the file title.
 Mark which classes on your 4-year plan (Document 1) will be
Honors courses.
 To receive credit for this assignment, you must make an advising
appointment with Beth Wilson, Honors College Adviser, and send
her these documents as email attachments.
