Rational Expressions—Thursday, June 5th.
b. Final Exam: Wednesday, June 11.
2. Final Exam Study Guide posted @v6math. The
solutions to all problems will be posted shortly.
3. Khan Academy due Monday, June 2nd for
everybody. The last KA will be posted before
the 2nd.
4. Find some graph paper in your
notebook, put today’s date on it and leave
it in your notebook when we are finished
today. Warm up section, please.
Final Exam Review:
1. Graph the inequality y> -2x + 1
2. Write the inequality of the graph shown y <

Simplifying Rationals:
Now then, what is it we don’t understand
about rational expressions?
...And don’t say everything.
What is an excluded value?
Find the excluded value(s), if any, in the following.
𝟓𝒙
𝟐
Simplifying Rationals:
Simplify rational expressions by using the same steps
you would to simplify any fraction.
 Factor the numerator and denominator.
 Divide the numerator and denominator by the
GCF. The GCF may be a monomial or polynomial.
Simplifying Rationals:
What is/are the excluded value(s)?
When we cancelled factors (x – 7), we were
performing a division operation. Since division by
zero is undefined, x ≠ 7
On yur own.. Simplify & find excluded values
Excluded values are? w ≠ 2, 6

x -y
y - x

Simplify: x - 3
x + 3
