1. COMPETITIONS AND ACTIVITIES HELD AT KULACHI HANSRAJ MODEL SCHOOL (Senior Primary) ASHOK VIHAR, DELHI ON THE EVE OF THE XIX COMMON WEALTH GAMES
2. DELHI TO CREATE HISTORY History of the Largest Common Wealth Games Ever - A 12-day sporting extravaganza to be watched by 3 billion people world wide. History of a Mega Event – with over 7000 visitors from 54 member nations and 71 teams participating in the games. History of a Global World Class City - with its swanky look, aesthetically appealing sidewalks and gardens, revamped flyovers, stadiums of international standards and a brand new Games Village. History of Competitions - with over 17 sporting disciplines to be held in 18 newly revamped competition venues specially created according to international standards. History of Enthusiasm – with the rich and poor, young and old eager to play host and showcase the rich cultural heritage of the country. History of Victories - with the largest Indian Contingent geared up to prove its athletic prowess. History of the Queen’s Baton – with a 100 day tour of the Indian Continent, the baton will cover 1,90,000 km across the world.
3. Shera – The Mascot Shera - the Tiger is a true representative of modern India. An achiever with a positive attitude, a fierce competitor full of integrity and honesty, Shera is a global citizen proud of his nation’s ancient heritage. He enthuses people to Come Out and Play. Shera embodies the values of the nation which the youth must adopt. Young children must inculcate the Charisma, Intelligence, Grace and Athletic Abilities of our enviable mascot. Shera is a reminder of the fragility of our environment and our responsibilities towards the protection of the eco-system.
4. MY CITY- MY GAMES The citizens of Delhi are thrilled to be hosts for the XIX Common Wealth Games. The youth of the country whose first love is sports are out to cheer the players. The adrenalin is pumping and we are ready to conquer the games. Over 22000 enthusiastic young volunteers imbibing the spirit of the games are ready to welcome the flood of tourists. This Multi-Sport event promises to be a unique and adventurous learning experience for them. It will give the youth of the country a fresh perspective on fitness. Various activities and competitions have been organized in community groups and educational institutions to raise their interest.
5. GAMES IN EDUCATION Kulachi Hansraj Model School has always been a pioneering partner in all government initiatives since its establishment in 1972 as a premier educational institution aiming to serve society by participating in Adult Education Programmes , the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and more recently “ Meri Dilli Meri Yamuna ” Campaign. Similarly for the Common Wealth Games too the school hosted various activities and competitions for the children to raise their interest and prepare them with positive responses for the Games. The school aspired to generate a unique positivity and motivation towards the Common Wealth Games in the young learners. These competitions and activities inculcated the spirit of camaderie and team work. The healthy competition gave a boost to performance and encouraged children to play and learn. The variety of competitions kept the enthusiasm high. These competitions and activities were organized on the eve of the Common Wealth Games from 1st-15th September, 2010 in the school premises. A detail of the activities and competitions is given on the following pages.
6. CHEER FOR THE PLAYERS Date : 1.09.2010 Children sang songs to cheer Indian Athletes. They boosted up their enthusiasm and sought to inspire them to win as many medals as they could. The pride of India, these athletes will create history and achieve laurels for the country.
7. Shramdaan Date : 01.09.10 to 15.09.10 Cleaning their classrooms and school surroundings in order to develop a civic responsibility and generate awareness towards improving behaviour and attitude. Students of the school devoted 30 minutes each day towards cleaning their rooms and the school.
16. GO FOR GOLD Date : 14.9.2010 Students of the school made postcards with inspirational messages for the Common Wealth Games and the Indian Athletes participating in the games. These postcards were sent to the Delhi Tourism Office under the Common Wealth in Education Programme for Delhi – 2010.
