The project kicked started when four friends Gulzar, Shantanu, Shreya & Shaan came together and Tagore became their conversation starter and the session ended with a memory – A memory of creating a masterpiece with Tagore’s most famous Bengali poems being translated into Hindi and put together as songs. Gulzar in conversation with Tagore consists of 7 songs which bring out the romantic side of Tagore, an attempt to contemporize his poetry by giving it a musical flavour that the young India identifies with. Tapur Tupur on the other hand is a compilation of 8 poems for children recited by Gulzarji. With Shantanu Moitra’s music direction the songs have just the right hint of Rabindra Sangeet fused with a twist of modern acoustics like Guitar, Grand Piano, Mandolin etc for the new age touch.

2. The Creative Genius
Fondly called as “The Great Sentinel or Gurudev” by Mahatma Gandhi, Tagore was
not just a great poet as we commonly know, but was a
philosopher, essayist, critic, composer & educationist all in one.
First Non-European to win a Nobel Prize.
Wrote 28 volumes of poetry, stories, novels, operas, essays
diaries and 2,500 songs
Only known person to have written the national anthems for two different countries
In Spain today poets still compete for the Rabindranath Tagore prize for poetry.
3. Tagore – Genius lesser known to masses spc the young India
After his death in 1941, Tagore’s works were largely celebrated in Bengal, his own nation of
origin. Unfortunately very little of his writing was available in adequate English translation.
much had been killed by bad translation and most of his poetry was adapted into Bengali
songs.
4. Hence…
An attempt to contemporize Tagore’s poetry to give it a musical flavour
that the young India identifies with
6. One Legend on Another
"Tagore has been a turning point in my writing. It is because of Tagore that I started reading Bangla, to read Tagore in original, I learnt Bangla,"
This inspiration led to the germination of this album. Gulzarji
handpicked 7 poems written by Tagore which were never
composed or translated.
He brought out Tagore’s romantic side to the forefront. And did a
word by word translation of Tagore’s poem in Hindi, keeping
Tagore’s poetic style intact.
In Gulzarji’s words – “I have not written the lyrics, it is Tagore’s”
An album WITH & WITHOUT Tagore
7. A masterpiece created by Masters

Paglo ki tarah
main ghoomta hoon,
main ghoomta hoon,
main ghoomta hoon.
Kasturi hiran jaise apni khushbu

main ghoomta hoon,
main ghoomta hoon,
main ghoomta hoon
