Chronic Absence
• Chronic absence is defined as
missing 10 percent or more of
instruction within a school year
Chronic Absence
Students are at risk academically if they miss
10 percent of the school year, or about 18 days.
Once too many absences have occurred, they can
affect learning, regardless of whether absences
are excused or unexcused.
Sporadic, not just consecutive, absences matter.
Chronic Absence
Chronic absence does not just affect the
students who miss school.
If too many students are chronically absent,
it slows down instruction for other
students, who must wait while the teacher
repeats material for absentee students.

• Weekly Incentive Challenge
Weekly recognition for students who have perfect
attendance for the week. These students are
recognized with their name displayed in our
attendance works trophy case. In addition, one
student per grade level will win a prize, and will
have special recognition in the trophy case,
morning announcements, and newsletter

Monthly recognition for students who have perfect
attendance for the month. All students with perfect
attendance for the month will be invited to a
celebration in their honor during advisement. In
addition, one student per grade will win a prize, and
will have special recognition in the trophy case,
morning announcements, and newsletter

Quarterly recognition of students who have
perfect attendance for the entire quarter are
recognized with a certificate displayed on our
Attendance Wall of Fame. These students too
