7. Observation #1:
It was over crowded!
Every time the media is builds up anxiety over
a weather hazard this will occur.
8. Observation #2:
Food shopping is Chaotic!
Even the most organized person with a list in their hand,
in an empty store will double back to a previous aisle to
get something.
9. Observation #3:
People seemed to be purchasing a lot more pre-made
foods and comfort foods for bad-weather shopping trips.
10. Problems noted:
Time to get through the store was longer then it
should have been.
Too many people were in the store at once.
People who were shopping could not move
freely around easily because of people waiting in the
extra long check-out lines.
There was a shortage of shopping carts and
baskets.
11. Hidden Opportunities:
Move the bottleneck of people outside the store instead
of at the registers. This would free up aisles for
shoppers in the store to shop faster.
14. Hidden Opportunities:
Give people waiting
outside a map of the
store layout.
This could also highlight
key items such as pre-
made foods and comfort
foods.
15. Hidden Opportunities:
On the back of the map
could be space for a
shopping list to be made.
This gives people the
opportunity to think out
and plan their shopping
before they start.
16. Conclusion:
By easing the flow of people through the store, the
shopping process would move faster.
By having people wait outside they can plan for their
shopping and that would also help the process
move faster.
