2. Target audience
Predominately, our target audience for our opening is
adults aged between 16-34 years old which is the
audience category A3. They are our specific audience of
whom we have made our opening for because the
characters portrayed in our opening are the same age to
our audience so the audience will be able to relate to the
characters feelings and how they would tackle each
scenario which would engaged the audience into what is
happening in the opening.
When creating our opening, we had to make sure that
our opening was suitable to our target audience and
that they would feel comfortable when watching our
opening. Mainly we focused on making sure our opening
was not over an 18 rated opening as it would have been
safe for over 18’s but we had to ensure our opening was
suitable to 16 and 17 year olds too so we decided to
make an opening which would be similar to a 15 rated
opening. To do this we kept the party scene minimal to
just dancing, usually at parties for over 18’s they have
alcoholic beverages so as we needed it to be suitable for
under 18’s, we did not have any alcohol in the party and
we did this by not showing any alcohol or any behaviour
of drunkenness. We showed this by having plastic cups
which would represent squash and fizzy pop.
3. Target audience
continued
As our target audience is young adults, we have included
events in our opening which would appeal to the
younger generation.
For example we included a party scene in our opening as
young adults enjoy parties and dances so we were then
able to include an event which they would also enjoy
watching. I also researched similar films of action and
horror and found that the film Scream 2 has a similar
target audience and they also included a party to attract
their target audience.
4. Gender
Our audience could also be both male or female. We
have not targeted at a specific gender but different parts
of our opening could appeal more to either gender.
Male
The theory of Male Gaze
from Laura Mulvey is
essentially the idea that
the camera is saw from a
males perspective.
Therefore the male gaze
theory can show that our
audience could be male as
the protagonist is female
so therefore the male
gender would like to
watch our opening as our
main character is a female
which a male would be
attracted to.
Female
Our audience could also
alternatively be a female
gender because also as our
protagonist is female, this
allows the female audience
to understand and
empathise with how our
main c character is feeling
and allow them to feel
sorry for our main
character Abhi.
5. Gender Continued
Male
Also, males would also be
a potential audience for
our opening as the genre
we chosen was an
action/horror which is
mainly what males enjoy
as they like fast speeds
and blood and gore etc.
where as females would
prefer a happy time of
opening e.g. a romantic
opening.
