Question 7
1. Question 7
Looking back at your
preliminary task, what do you
feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the
full product?
2. Progression from preliminary to
finished product..
• Throughout filming the preliminary we
came across a number of problems, that
we were able to learn from in our final
task. Issues with planning, camerawork
and actors were apparent within the
preliminary, and therefore these aspects in
the end product improved.
3. Planning...
• We learnt from the preliminary task planning is a
key feature to a good film opening. Therefore this
time we made sure we planned every step. We
made sure our actors were free throughout the
week of filming. We also checked weekly weather
forecasts for the best weather that would fit with
our genre. We created storyboards, a variety of
planning sheets and checklists in order to make
sure every detail matched with our idea. Planning
was the most important aspect of the process as
we needed to make sure our film opening
constantly stuck to the Rom-Com theme.
4. Filming and Editing
• After creating our preliminary we found that
having more filming is better when
editing, rather than having too little. This is
because you have more angles to chose
from, giving the film a wider variety of options.
Therefore when filming we did each shot in a
variety of angles, which in the end helped when
it came down to using a split screen when
editing.
5. Editing
I enjoyed editing throughout both tasks, it was
challenging and difficult at times, especially
when adding a split screen and our music
behind it. The use of After Effects for the
titles created exactly what we wanted, It was
the first time I’d used this programme and
therefore I had to learn fast. However the
editing programme itself was easy to use as
we used the same MoviePlus we used in the
preliminary which made the whole process
quicker and easier.
6. Preliminary
The preliminary task helped me and Ellie in
learning about the basic process of:
Planning Filming Editing
Without the first task I feel we would have
made a lot of mistakes, causing stress. It
helped develop our knowledge on editing
programmes, and camera techniques. In
conclusion the preliminary made our final
product a simple, stress free experience
creating a film opening with a clear genre,
audience and fluency.
