6. Asking for Help
Librarians want to help. You can ask through IM/Text, email, phone, and in
person. You can also sign up for one-on-one appointments or classes.

7. Going to Minerva, the Libraries’ Catalog
To enter the Libraries’ catalog, Minerva, click the link.

8. Exploring Minerva
What is Minerva?
Minerva is the University Libraries’ online catalog.
Using Minerva, you can search for and find physical
items within the library. You may also find some digital
items. You can find books, CDs, DVDs, government
documents, newspapers, and other items housed in
the library.
Minerva does not allow you to search for scholarly and other articles.
Scholarly articles and other articles are found within databases.
We will revisit where to find journal articles in later slides.

9. Searching Minerva
In Minerva, you can limit the type of items you would like to search
for and type words in the search bar.
Click ‘go’ and Minerva will find materials that our libraries own.

10. Getting to Databases, a Collection of Articles (and more!)
To enter the Libraries’ databases, click the link.
Then, choose a subject, then a database.

11. Exploring the Libraries’ Databases
What is a database?
The libraries have many, many databases that contain
scholarly (academic, professional) articles. Typically,
these are sources in addition to books or web resources
you may use for research or to write research papers.
Databases contain papers, articles, and dissertations. This is not
where you would look for a book.

12. Searching Databases
You can search for items by entering words in the search bars and clicking
‘search.’
Notice that you can also check boxes to limit your results.

Now that you’ve seen a few sections of the
Libraries’ website, take a look around.
