BACKUP AND FAILOVER PROCESS
Our backup process ensures your site and it’s data is
always safe and up-to-date. Backups are transferred
and stored in multiple data centers in different
geographic locations. Furthermore, your site and
data is copied to the failover environment, a hosting
system in a different geographic region, where it
waits in case your production site goes offline for any
reason. In the event your production site becomes
in-accessible our system will automatically fail-over
in a process that takes less than 30 seconds.

No matter how much you plan on minimizing failures having absolutely
reliable and up-to-date backups are still essential. Also ensuring that you
have multiple versions of your backup sets is important as you may need to
retrieve one record after it is deleted or perform auditing and comparisons.
Just having backups are not enough – they have to be 100% accurate
snapshots, they must be accessible in a reasonable amount of time and they
must be in a state that allows for a relatively quick rebuild from the ground up
of a new environment.
In the very unlikely event of both the production server and the failover
server going down at the same time – a true disaster – Seventyeight can
rebuild your website and database from the ground up based on the last
server images (stored in multiple highly redundant storage datacenters) and
then updated with the most recent transactional snapshots (also stored in the
same storage datacenters). Assuming this had to be done and also assuming
DNS records had to be manually updated Seventyeight can get a new
environment up and running within 4 hours.
The production environment is backed up in several different ways:
1. A full snapshot of the full webserver and database server is taken every night. These snapshots are images of the full Operating system - every
setting, every file. These snapshots are securely stored in a multiple datacenters so they are very redundant and reliable. Furthermore these
snapshots are encrypted so they are very secure.
2. After any major upgrade (new software installed, new windows updates) to the production database server or webserver an Image is created.
This image is an exact duplicate – including what processes are currently running and what is in RAM of the server. These images are stored as
the snapshots are above. These Images are useful in the event of a disaster requiring the complete rebuild of the whole production
environment in a short time frame.
3. Incremental changes of both the website file system and database are synchronized to the failover environment – while not strictly a “backup”
process they do provide a copy of the data in a separate region.
