Brain development and what it tells us – open time for synapse development, then brain closes, moves on to other areas, synapses that aren’t used shut down and make room for those more frequently used. 25% of this process happens after age 3.Get them thinking/processing – too many just respond to what they’re told – let them create, be messy, think thru the process – it’s not always about outcome.Read anything – introduces new words, phrases, etc. Discussion about paying under the table.Get outside – research on myopia (near sightedness), obesity, vitamin D research, outdoor things to do help develop balance/large motor skills
30 year study of developing countries like US, Sweden, Italy etc. for Science Daily20 year study by Univ. of Nevada for more books in house - Both factors, having a 500-book library or having university-educated parents, propel a child 3.2 years further in education, on average.Creativity – number of new inventions, patents filed, etc. Familiar with TED – network of creatives that encourage this thought process
Kids have the best of intentions – and they really do enjoy things other than tv/video games. But they also live in the moment and can be easily distracted.
Collaborative list – start now, keep adding to it. Check off or use stickers to mark what you’ve done. You’ll be surprised on what the kids begin to suggest…Check our summer fun board on Pinterest – some creative people put these on chalkboards, some put each idea in a jar and pull one out each day, etc.
