2. “Without change there is no innovation, creativity, or
incentive for improvement. Those who initiate change
will have a better opportunity to manage the change
that is inevitable.”
-William Pollard
3. 2025 Landscape of Technology
Smartphones
Wearable Technology
Augmented Reality
Streaming services
Convergence of technologies
4. Smartphones… Too smart?
Smartphones have been around since 1992, but truly caught on in 2007 with
Apple’s iPhone
2015 smartphones can link up with other devices through NFC, Bluetooth, or
Wi-Fi. Smartphones are becoming the mobile wallet, with services such as
Apple Pay and Samsung Pay
2020 debit cards are obsolete with NFC payments being the main source of
payments
Phones now link with other devices to keep you connected at all times
5. Wear Your Technology
2013 Google unveils Google Glass, which accesses many Google apps as well as
syncing to your phone through lens
In 2015 Apple unveiled the Apple Watch, which offers mobile accessibility for
messaging and calling. Also offers NFC for Apple Pay
By 2020 everyone can communicate on demand with another by either glasses,
watches, or cell phone
The Uses and Gratifications theory is shown, because though we don’t need
wearable technologies, it satisfies the needs for our instant gratification culture

6. Augmented Reality
Augmented/Virtual Reality picks up steam with devices such as the Oculus Rift.
Consumers play video games, watch TV, or talk to computers in a virtual reality
setting. Also you can form relationships with these computer softwares
Virtual communication surpasses real life interaction by 2020. As shown in the
video below, augmented reality has endless capabilities
Social Information Processing is shown, not only are we managing computer
relationships but now also augmented relationships. Similar to as shown in the
film “Her”
7. Cut the Cord
2008 Netflix begins its shift from renting physical copies, to offering an online
streaming service
These streaming services allow you to see what your friends are watching, as well
as suggestions for what they might watch
By 2013 many consumers begin “cutting the cord”, by dropping their cable
services for more economical streaming services such as Netflix, Roku, and Google
Chromecast
Streaming services partner with video chat companies in 2017, to offer HD video
chats through your TV, Smartphone or Smartwatch
Cable is officially obsolete in 2022, with streaming services offering packages for
your favorite shows and movies on demand at lower costs
8. Convergence
With the advent of smartphones and wearable technologies, your phone now syncs up with
your everyday items. (TV, Car, houselights, garage door, door locks all can be controlled
through one device)
You can watch TV on your phone/watch, or make a call on your TV. Every household device is
compatible with another
Every device you own shares information with another to keep you fully connected
As Rogers Diffusion of Innovation states, the channels of communication may change over time
but with innovation we will always stay connected
9. “Sometimes when you innovate, you make
mistakes. It is best to admit them quickly, and
get on with improving your other innovations.”
Steve Jobs
