These are the Top 10 Slide tips from Garr Reynolds' website on how to have a good PowerPoint Presentation. I made my own slides for these tips for a computer class in college.

(animation)
• “Some animation is a good thing, but stick to the most
subtle and professional.”

5. Use High-Quality
Graphics

Don’t worry about filling all the space on your slides with information or pictures. The more simple your slides, the more likely people are to pay attention.
Building off the last slide about keeping things simple, the same goes for your slides with information. A single statistic/bulletpoint backed up by information you say (not on your slide) is more likely to have an impact on your listeners. Also, it is much easier to write down a single fact and key points from what you say versus writing down a full slide of information.
There is nothing more annoying than animation that takes forever and is very distracting on a slide. A little transition, slide or fade, is good. But make sure the speed of this is at a comfortable medium (not too fast or slow.
Stay far away from the preprogrammed horrible Clip Art that comes standard for your presentation. Instead, use sites like Flickr to find high quality graphics to use in your presentation. But make sure that you have the rights to use the graphics you find ie. make sure they are creative commons licensed pictures.
You should either design your own template or purchase a professional one. Everyone is sick of seeing the same templates in countless presentations. Designing your own gives you more creative power and makes your presentation stand out.
Make sure that you have appropriate charts for the data you are trying to show. Have something that is simple to read or even two contrasting charts. Good for audience to understand.
Cool colors are good for backgrounds while warm colors are good for text based on their properties. Use color well and responsibly ie don’t have bright over the top neon colors for you presentation. That is not how you want to stand out.
Choose a font, as well as a size or bolding, that makes your text easy to read. No crazy fonts that look cool but are impractical. Times New Roman or Arial are good fonts to use but stay away from Helvetica.
Put videos from YouTube in your slide instead of a link to a video that then has to open a new webpage and load. Having your video be seamless will make you look more prepared. Also, use audio that will be helpful to your presentation, not distracting or silly.
Sort your slides like you sort everything else: in an order that makes sense. If you do all of these other tips, in addition to having your slides well organized, your presentation will be successful and have people get a lot out of it.
