Framing Sustainability as the Future
Here are six broad areas of focus for a vision of the future that is
deeply compelling to the majority of citizens
while making clear that our current situation is unacceptable.

• Prosperity
There is no future that is bright without being green.

• Security
Frame it as reducing risk and those who drag their feet as soft on security.

• Luxury
Systematically juxtapose eco-conscious and sexy affluence with crass, unhealthy and polluting lifestyles.

• Health
Frame it not just as a health issue, but as a middle-American, mainstream, regular people health issue.

• Progress
Frame it as the only sensible and cool path to building futures that exceed our wildest dreams.

• Success, Not Self-Esteem
Set the science-based bar and provide mechanisms for people to see where they measure up, but don't lull
people back to sleep in order to spare their self-esteem.
