What is going well?
I think that my colour scheme on my products is going well. I have consistently kept the same colours
throughout my designs by using only the colours blue, orange and white. As this is a irn-brus
original colour this means that it is clear for the audience to tell straight away what drink can it is.
Another positive aspect of my production is the fonts, which I have used on my designs. I have
decided to use fonts, which show the meaning of my energy drink. For example as I wanted to
present energy in my design I have decided to use lighting bolts and explosions and stars. I have
shown this in my font because I have used fonts, which represent lighting. I think that this font
presents the idea of energy and I think that it also makes the design much more intriguing as it
gives the design an edge to it. I have included some images underneath which show my font.
What is not going so well?
I think that the back of my can could be improved. This is because I have included much graphics. The
design is quite basic as you can see from the image that the back of the can looks quite boring. I
have only included an image of a lightning bolt and a description of the can. I think that this looks
quite plain and wouldn’t attract the audience to drink the drink.
How could I improve my design?
I think that I could improve my design by adding more features. As I have only included basic signs such
as lightning bolts and stars I think that I could maybe add more shapes which would make the
design look much more interesting. I also think that I could improve my nutritional side of the can
by including extra shapes. Although that I only wanted to use the colours of the original irnbru
brand I think that maybe adding a different colours such as a red or a yellow would make the
design seem much more brighter and exciting. I also think that I could improve my design by
having a more interesting font for the copy at the bottom of the can. Maybe using the
Metropolitan font would improve my design.

What is going well?
Since my first draft I have decided to change a few aspects of my design. By doing this I think that this
has benefitted into looking more interesting. I have first decided to completely to a new idea of
the front of the design. On my first development I decided to use stars and opposites
background/text colours. By doing this I think that it looked too busy on the design so I decided
to go for a more simple design. I decided to have one main shape on the front of the can which
was a lightening strike. By having this as a main shape I think that it fits in with the theme of my
energy drink. I also think that having less shapes makes it less busy. I have also decided to use
one big lightning strike instead of including stars because it has enabled the text on the product
to stand out more. Another aspect to my design which is going quite well is the font. I have
decided to change the font of my title because on the first design is didn’t really stand out so I
have decided to change the font so that it is very clear to read for the audience.
What is not going so well?
There is a few things in this development which is not going so well. As I have decided to drop the idea
of having a description of the can on the back I have decided to have similar design on the front
that is on the back however changing a few of the colours. Although I think that this looks
improved, I think it could be improved more by changing the copy. I could try using different
words such as ‘stimulation’ by using different words I think this would make it look more
interesting. Another part which is not going so well is the banner at the top of my can I think
that I could add some lightning shapes or even stars to make it look much more interesting.
What could be improved?
I think that I could improve my design by using the idea of lightning strikes all the way across the
bottom of my can instead of just on one section. By doing this it represents that the can is full of
energy and I think that it gives the can a powerful look.

What is going well?
I think that my developments show improvement through my different designs. I think that I have
improved on the use of font on my design. I have decided to a font which is bold and stands out
rather than using a font which isn't very clear. By using a bolder font I think that this will grab
attention from my audience. Another successful aspect is the layout. I have decided to split the
different sections of my can by using large lightening strikes. I have decided to do this because
it is clear and indicates the front of the can, the back of the can and the nutritional information.
Another aspect which is going well is the top of the can I have decided to develop idea 1 of
having words across the top of the can this is because it is a simple way to get information
across to the audience. I have used words which describe the drink and I have also used words
which may persuade the audience to drink the can.
What is not going so well?
Although I have slightly improved my product I think that there are a few things which could be done
better. I think that I have developed my can packaging into more of a basic design. Although
that it is clear, simple and straight to the point of what the can does I think that my design could
include a different colour as this will make the design much more appealing. I think that I could
use the colour red as this will also present the company who makes irn bru.
What could be improved?
I will need to improve my design by adding a bar code on my design in a suitable place. As I have tried
a similar idea with different variations I think that I will re-do my design and create a more
minimalistic design by re-designing the font I will experiment with a different design to see if I
can develop and to see what works.

What is going well?
As I have decided to completely change the design of my can packaging I think that my can
has improved. One of the aspects which I think looks better than the original is the
text. I have decided to enlarge the text size and also experiment with the different
colours and I think that this is a much more appealing method. If I compare my new
font with the font I used before I think that my new font is much more bolder and clear
to read. Another feature of my can which is also going well is the slogan which I have
improved. After realizing that I needed a more catchy, meaningful slogan on my design
I decided to come up with a slogan which will make my audience remember and also
create a slogan which represents the energy drink. My slogan is ‘a more powerful you’.
It is short, catchy and it rhymes with the name of the drink. So when my audience see
the can they will read ‘irn bru 32. a more powerful you’.
What is not going so well?
There is a few things which are not going very well however I think that I could improve
these things by adjusting a few features. I think that my layout is very basic. It is quite
simple. To develop this I think that I could experiment with different layouts and move
the title and slogan around. For example I could try putting the title on the side and I
think that I could also experiment by using other slogans to see what sounds better and
decide which one will appeal to my audience.
What could be improved?
I think that I could improve my design by changing the design on the back. This is because the
front of my can and the back of my can look very similar. I also think I could improve
my design my experimenting with different fonts maybe having a different font for the
title and a different font for the slogan may look interesting.

What is going well?
There is many different things which I think is going well throughout this development. I think one
of the main features which is going well is the colours used. I like the fact I have made good
use of the colours and that they are all the original colours from the irn bru design. Another
strong point in my design is the contrast of colours. I think that the way I have used the
contrast of colours for the front and the back of the design makes this design look much
more bolder. Another aspect which I think is going well is the layout. I have adjusted the
layout and decided to have more of a simple straight forward layout because I think that this
looks much more clear for the audience to see. The fonts which I have used on this design
are very bold. I have decided to put the words in capital letters to make them stand out
more. I also think that this is one of my strongest designs because I have used words which
describe the energy drink. Such as ‘power, energy, strength’. These words represent the
energy drink and I think that they get straight to the point of what the energy drink does. On
my design I have also decided to include realistic features which will be found on a real
energy drink can such as the company brand (BARR) and I have also included a bar code.
What is not going so well?
Although that most of my design is going well I think that there is a few things which could be
improved. One of the the things is the nutritional side of the can. I think that this side of the
can could be improved as it doesn’t really fit in with the theme and it looks very plain. I think
to improve this I could make the nutritional side look more interesting.
What could be improved?
As well as the nutritional side of the can I think that this design could be improved by developing
the top banner which says 32 across the top of the can. I think that it could be improved at it
looks quite boring to look at. I think that I could improve this by using my slogan on the
banner. Or using the words which I have used to describe on the energy drink. Although
these are only small changes I would make I still think that this could be my final can design.

What is going well?
For this design I have decided to carry on with my theme of presenting lightning and energy.
There is a few things which I think is going well such as the use of colours. I think that
orange blue red and white look quite good on the energy can because when put
together they all work well together however they also stand out when put next to
each other. I think that it is a good idea adding an extra colour into my design because
it makes my design look much more interesting than it did. Another strong point in my
design which I think is going well is the use of fonts. As I have decided to carry on with
the theme of lightning I have decided to use a font which represents lightning and
energy. By doing this I think that it makes the design look much more intriguing for the
audience.
What is not going so well?
I think that I could maybe adjust the layout on the font and the back of the can. This is
because designs look quite cramped with too much information and features on them.
I think I could maybe improve this by moving things around and developing the layout
of the text and the lightening strikes.
What could be improved?
I have decided to select specific things in which I would like to improve on this development.
I think that I could move the words around the layout to find a suitable place in which
it will draw attention. I also think that on my design I could include a small catchy
slogan which will interest my audience into the can. I also think that I could improve
my design by resizing the words which are at the bottom or taking some out as it looks
quite busy. I think that I could also make the 32 on the can a different colour to the
background so that it stands out more. I could experiment and maybe change the 32
colour to a red or white as this would also fit in with my theme.
