2. What is Broadband
Network service providing business sell bandwidth
(volume of information per unit of time that a
transmission medium can handle. )or network
access to the Internet as a valuable resource for
online communication (Broadband).
Broadband is a term used to describe the
bandwidth characteristics and its ability to
communicate multiple signals and traffic types
simultaneously. Its medium can be The medium
can be coax, fibre optical, twisted pair or wireless.
3. Various Communication
Channels
Here are a few examples of Wired Technology
Twisted wires: Copper Wires
( Twisted-pair wires consist of two insulated copper wires twisted into pairs
and are used for both voice and data transmission. The transmission
speed range from 2 million bit/s to 100 million bit/s. Most popular form
channel for homes and business)
Coaxial cable: Insulated Copper Wires
(Invented by Oliver Heaviside, who patented the design in 1880, the
device has an inner conductor surrounded by a flexible, tubular
insulating layer, surrounded by a tubular conducting shield. Used in
radio transmissions, Internet connection and cable TV)
Fibre-Optic Cables
(flexible, transparent fibre made of glass which can transmit information
through light between the two ends of the fibre. Used mainly in internet
connections as it can transmit information over longer distances and
higher bandwidths compared to other services )
4. Wireless Technology
Here are a few examples of Wireless Technology
• Satellite
(Satellite transmitting is provided through satellites in
the earths orbit. This form of technology can offer
higher data speeds, with some satellite speeds
reaching up to 100 Mbps)
• Radio Waves
(Radio waves process information through
wavelengths, they are also used in WiFi systems)
• Terrestrial Microwave, (MMDS)
(Multichannel Multipoint Distribution Service (MMDS)
uses microwaves in the form of Gigahertz GHZ to
send information across wireless cables
5. Broadband in Ireland
From a study of internet users in 2011 almost
98% of Ireland online population had signed on
for Broadband service (Click for Reference)
Recent telecommunication developments in the
last 2 years have been a €400 million investment
from cable provider UPC as well as
improvements in Fibre Powered technology by
Eircom to the value of €100 million to increase
the countries internet upload and download
speeds for Business and Personal use. Click here

(Three, O2, Meteor
etc.)
7. How did they market their
product
What are the broadband speeds they offer
How up to date is their technology
(As I mentioned previously, Fibre optic broadband
is the fastest medium for internet communication
to date. Using light signals to transfer information
across the internet. Ideally I would like to avail of
an internet provider who offers this service )
Are there any supplementary services that are
available with the internet package
Who is the most cost effective supplier.

11. Mobile internet Providers
Mobile internet is internet that is available for handheld devices
(smart phone users) portable laptops, tablet PC’s that are
connected to mobile or wireless networks for people on the
move.
Uses 3G and 4G technology to any device with wireless
capabilities. 4G (4th generation of mobile technology) allows the
user to avail of higher broadband privileges based on their
mobile provider (up to 200MB speeds (O2.ie)) .
The links below are some of the networks who supply mobile
internet, USB modems, Micro Sims for PC tables (e.g. Ipad) and
portable wireless hotspots for one or more devices. All are
relatively inexpensive and few are part of network cell phone
price packages.
Vodafone
, O2, Meteor, Three.ie, Clear
12. Personal Opinion on Broadband
Provider Available
Package Deal: UPC offer up to 150Mb Fibre-Optic
Broadband for €59. I found this the most cost
effective price compared with other service
providers. UPC also are offering their customer
various Internet connection/ Digital TV and phone
line packages that are cheaper than other Irish
competitors: UCP.ie
For a Mobile Business: I would value the Vodafone
Mobile WiFi R205 as the most cost effective
mobile internet service. The modem has up to
10MB data allowance, can be used to connect up
to 5 devices and is only €29.99 per month.
