7. 1. Sarah has a big anatomy test tomorrow. Her parents have been reminding her how
important grades are this year as she starts looking at colleges. The NSYNC reunion tour
is in town tonight and she receives a text that a friend has bailed to stay home and study.
This is the chance of a lifetime…there will be more anatomy tests but this is the only
NSYNC reunion tour. What does Sarah choose? What are the results of her decision?
2. Jim is a senior in high school and his car is in the shop. During math class, he takes his
phone out of his pocket to text message his mother. His teacher sees the phone and
collects it due to the school’s handbook and technology usage policy. Was the teacher
justified in their action? What might Jim have done differently?
3. Adam is a new student in school and prefers to sit in the back of the classroom. Each
student has a computer to use in class for note taking and research. Adam has found a
website that allows him to play free games like pool, blackjack, and poker. Adam shows
up to class for a quiz Wednesday without notes. When asked by the teacher, he states he
did not know notes could be used on the quiz. All other students in the class are prepared
and do well on the quiz; Adam can only guess on 2 out of 10 questions. How would you
approach this situation and deal with Adam? Is it safe to assume he was off-task if he was
the only one who didn’t hear the instructions? What steps would you take to ensure that
Adam gets on track?
