2. My chosen genre - comedy
• I have decided to create a trailer in the genre of comedy. This is because comedy is my
favourite genre and I feel that spending the time researching the genre and creating
my own will be enjoyable. I am familiar with the codes and conventions of comedy.
5. The plot
George and Dan put their lives on the line every day when they police the
corridors of their high school. Who would deal with the litter? Who would
deal with the speeders? Without George and Dan, chaos would rule the
corridors and soon the whole system would collapse. Often regarded as
losers, they know that one day they will be rewarded for their courageous
efforts.
That day arrives sooner than they think when the principal invites them
into his office and bestows upon them a mission only the strong at heart
can handle. A secret society within school is arranging weekly parties where
the alcohol flows freely and anything goes. The parties are getting so out of
hand that students are stumbling through their classes bleary eyed and
hungover from Monday to Wednesday. On Thursday, they gear up for
another weekend of partying. Grades are dropping and the pressure is on to
shut the society down. The only men fit for the job are the corridor police.
Our two heroes must now embark upon an undercover mission. They need
to find out who leads the society. Is it the popular kids? The quiet kids? A
turncoat teacher? Finding the society is one thing: getting invited to the
parties is another...
13. Target audience
I will be aiming my film at the 16-24 age category as I feel that this age group will
be able to identify with the out-of-control party scenes, and understand the
comedy in throwing the corridor police into them.
My research shows that in a survey conducted in 2006, it was found that for 16-24
year olds, television was used mainly for films (76%), comedy (71%) and soaps
(55%).
This age group is most likely to visit the cinema. Fifty per cent 16-24 year olds
reported attending the cinema once a month or more in Great Britain in 2002
compared with 17 per cent of those aged 35 and over. This makes 16-24 year olds
an ideal group to aim a film at, as they are more likely to visit the cinema to watch
it, giving it high box office ratings and increasing profits.
14. Classification
I have decided that my film would be
classed as a 15 according to BBFC
guidelines. My film would contain mild
nudity and mild sexual activity, as well as
frequent use of strong language.
