3. 2000 GLAAD Davidson-Valentini
Award
Since its inception, the award has recognized publicly
known LGBT activists who have dedicated time and
resources to fighting for community-wide equal rights.
On June 3, 2000, GLAAD hosted its first San
Francisco Media Awards ceremony at the Argent
Hotel, recognizing two leaders in the LGBT
community. During the sold-out event, GLAAD
honored Kathy Levinson with the 11th annual
Davidson/Valentini Award for her service and
donations to California’s No on Knight campaign,
which fought against the proposition that aimed to
refute the recognition of same-sex marriage. The
organization also awarded comedian Margaret Cho
with its first Golden Gate Award at the gala.
