UMBC Song Lyric Competition

ACTIVITY: SONG LYRING RUNNING DICTATION AND COMPETITION

2. Activity: Song lyric running dictation and competition
Objectives:
1. To engage learner in Reading a lyric of a song in a fun activity
2. To practice listening, speaking, reading and writing through a game competition
3. To activate multiple intelligences through this activity: musical, kinesthetic, visual
4. To foster learner autonomy
5. To use kinesthetic and global learners learning styles
Procedure:
A group of 20 students
Time: 30 minutes
1. Before class, students choose a song they want to listen to in class.
2. First, students arrange themselves in two rows.
3. Second, students choose two students that will seat at the back and will read the lyrics
silently (these students will vary through the game).
4. Third, students choose two students who will be in front of the whiteboard copying the
lyric (these students will stayed at the front of the whiteboard).
5. Fourth, students pick up a name for their team, in this case, Team A: The Eagles, Team B:
The Lions.
6. Fifth, the students sitting at the back will run to the front dictate, as much as he/she
remembers of the lyric to his/her team member. The student at the front will write as
much as he/she can memorize and remember on the whiteboard. Accuracy and order of
the song is important.
7. Sixth, the students who were at the back, sit down in the first chairs of their corresponding
row and the students who were sitting in the first chairs of a row stand up, run to the back
read the lyric of the song, memorize as amuch as they can and run to the front to dictate it
to their team mambers who are writing the lyrics of the song in the whiteboard.
8. The sixth step is done several time until the 2on gis written on the board and all the
students sitting in the chairs have participated in the activity.
9. Finally, students listen to the song and sing it!
Rules:
1. The students who dictate can not write, only the students who at the whiteboard.
2. The team who dictates and write accurately and in organized form wins the competition
game. (A prize can be given, example: pencils, stickers, or candies)
