Hinweis der Redaktion
In a school where 21st Century students are actively engaged in successfully learning a challenging curriculum, they are completing authentic tasks that they see as being relevant to the life they will lead once they are outside of school. The world they live in outside of school does not seem to end at the classroom door. They collaborate with their peers and communicate with multiple audiences to answer questions and construct their own solutions to problems relating to the field of discipline they are studying. They are developing higher order thinking skills using multiple sources of input and have varied ways to master, and show mastery, of concepts. (NETS S)

The teachers in such a school access a wide variety of resources to provide rich learning experiences for their students. They collaborate with other teachers to share knowledge and lessons. They stay up to date with research on teaching and learning as well as in their discipline. Teachers frequently assess their students through both formative and summative assessments, including alternative assessments. Student data is frequently monitored to guide the teacher’s planning for individuals and classes. Technology is used at all phases of instruction, when it is appropriate to the educational objective. Teachers model, and students practice, ethical, safe, and responsible behaviors when using technology. (NETS T)

What is the current Status of Educational Technology in Our Schools?
On all counts, based on the data from our surveys and personal observation in our buildings, a start has been made in each of these areas, but continued work is needed. The technology plan should include goals which allow for further individualization of learning experiences, teaching and learning strategies which are tailored to the needs of this new generation of students, exposure to 21st century work force skills, and introduction to active involvement in the global community.
There is an employee training lab at the Corwin IB School where teachers can take free classes in diverse types of training. This month, the offerings include SmartBoard Training Kick-off, the first two hours of a 7.5 hour after school class in the use of a SmartBoard.
Online courses are available for Clickers, SmartBoard, Mobi, and Promethean boards.
Classes can be scheduled at individual schools on request if there are five or more teachers who wish for the same training.
Online training through outside agencies is promoted on the technology department website, including training through PBS TeacherLine and Verizon/Thinkfinity.
Last year, 29 EETT grant participants took part in monthly, full-day, trainings that offered instruction and lesson-sharing opportunities in the use of the clickers, Mobi board, document camera, flip video camera, and digital projector that each had received. The same cadre of teachers took part in the ISTE conference over the summer. The materials and lesson plans created by this group formed the core of material used to start a district-wide integration wiki, intended as a resource for teachers.[
