COMMUNITY RESILIENCE PROJECT(CRP)
PROJECT DURATION: APRIL 2013 TO SEPTEMBER 2014
Project Goal:
To increase community resilience in MEER with an emphasis on children, through
mainstreaming of DRR/CCA across development programming

COMMUNITY PREPAREDNESS
• Formation of DMC in each village
• Identification of volunteers
• Community training on DRM, CBDRM, First Aid, (gender sensitivity), CCA etc
• Assign responsibilities to volunteers
• COVACA & CDPP with community
• DRR kits distributed in target villages
• IEC material on DRR (Leaflets, Brochures, workbook) distributed
• Community members during COVACA and I-PACS
• Simulation/mock drills with volunteers
• Joint Simulation. Mock drill with 1122 Rescue

• DRR awareness sessions and simulations with children
• COVACA & School Disaster Preparedness Plan with children
• Mock drill with children, children and community

EARLY WARNING
• Orientation on EW and HVA
• Conducted Hazard Vulnerability Assessment in villages along with
communities
• Installation of Early Warning System in target villages
• Establishment of warning dissemination mechanism
• Assigning responsibilities to the volunteers for EW
• EW kits distributed
• Radio sets, manual siren, water level gauge, loud speakers, torch etc.
• Developed and distributed note books with DRR messages among school
children

• Participated in external meetings actively with stakeholders (1122, Education
department, Civil Defense, DDMA, NDMA, Local NGOs) to enhance
coordination and networking
• Activated District DRR Forum and arrange frequent meetings with Forum
• Participated in National & International DRR Day
National Offices integrate advocacy at local and national government levels in
DRR/CCA across different sectors with a focus on children's participation
• Arranged one day advocacy orientation for community, children and Govt.
officials
Achievements:
• 10 committees in target villages are formed
• Lobbying for District DRM structure at national level
• Reactivate District DRR Forum
• Connected District DRR-Forum with National DRR forum.
• Effective use of EWS in villages by community trained volunteers
• Small mitigation measures has been identified by community after COVACA
exercise
CHALLENGES
• Resource mobilization
• (Late hiring of team members such as Master Trainers)
Limited budget
• No separate vehicle
• Long summer vacations in schools
• Project duration (short)
• Complex system
• Procurement/ commodities
• Reporting separate format for region
• Separate format for NO
• Security situation in country
• Poverty & Low literacy rate in the area
LESSON LEARNT
• Project implemented only in one province
• long term strategy required (CRP extension)
• Allocation of budget for Resilience work in area
• Project design need to be reviewed
• Focus is required on mainstreaming DRR In other sectors
• Strong coordination required at all levels with government
• Registration of DMC’s as CBO’s or existing CBO’s capacity strengthening
• Capacity building of staff
