2. Question 1
The first question asked on my questionnaire is ‘What is your
age?’. This is a simple question which will enable me to
know what the age rating of my film should be.
From my questionnaire results, you can see that nine
respondents are 16 years old or younger, eleven
respondents fit into the category of 17 to 24, three
respondents fit into the category of 25 to 34, and one
respondent fits into the category 75 or older.
As the respondents of this questionnaire are mainly >16 and
17 to 24, the age rating for my film would have to meet the
age range of my target audience. Therefore, I would have to
rate my film as a ‘15’, in order for it to gain an audience, and
for it to be accessible to them.
If I were to rate my film an ‘18’, although the main category
of respondents fit into the 17 to 24 group, I would lose out on
an audience from my second main category of >16.
3. Question 2
The second question asked on my questionnaire is ‘What is
your gender?’. This is another simple question in my
questionnaire, as I am trying to get to know the main
demographics of my audience. Asking this question, will allow
me to know what gender majority of my target audience will
be whilst also allowing to know what should be the main
gender shown in my trailer.
As you can see from the results, 95.83% of respondents are
female leaving only 4.17% male. From these results, I can
include more female roles into my film to appeal to the
audience.
Although the majority of roles will be played by females, this
would also appeal to men which will ensure that I do not lose
out on having a minority male audience for my film.
4. Question 3
Question three of my questionnaire asked ‘What
is your sexuality?’. As you can see from this
screenshot, 22 respondents answered
heterosexual, 1 respondent answered asexual
and another answered under ‘other’.
This is was yet another simple question in my
questionnaire, as through the use of this
question, this has allowed me to get to know the
demographics of my audience. Asking this
question has allowed me to decide what should
be included in my trailer, as I my trailer will
consist of features that would appeal to various
lifestyles.
5. Question 4
Question four states ‘Do you use public
transport? If so please state’. This was a
multiple choice question, as I did not state a
given period in which public transport may have
been used. Including this question has allowed
me to gain a better understanding of my target
audience.
From these results, 20 people have answered
that they use the bus, 14 have answered the
train, 17 have answered car and 1 individual has
answered under ‘other’.
By including this question in my questionnaire,
this will allow me to decide again the various
lifestyles of the characters that will be included
in my trailer.
6. Question 5
The next question asked ‘In a typical week, what do you use the
internet for?’. This was another multiple choice question that I
included in my questionnaire. By including this question, this has
enabled me to understand the different ways my audience uses
the internet.
As you can see from these results, 21 people have stated that
they use the internet to keep in touch with friends, 12 have
answered to keep up with current events, 14 have responded to
make or receive phone calls, 17 have said to play games, music
and/or videos, 14 respondents use the internet to purchase goods
or services, 5 have stated to record videos, 4 have responded
with to read articles or books, to send or receive message has 19
responses, to use social networking sites was selected by 20
people, to watch trailers has 9 and lastly ‘other’ had been selected
by 3 individuals.
This question can be extremely helpful in the process of creating
my film trailer, through understanding how my audience uses the
internet this not only allows me to understand their lifestyle, but
also allows me to identify different ways using the internet I can
advertise my trailer. For example, 20 people have said that they
use the internet for social media. Because of these results, I can
promote my trailer on social media to guarantee that my audience
will see and be interested in watching my trailer.
7. Question 6
Question 6 asked ‘About how often do you go to the
cinema?’. As you can see from the responses, the
majority of respondents to my questionnaire do not go
to the cinema regularly in fact, 2 respondents go
roughly 2-3 times a month, 4 individuals attend to the
cinema once every month, 5 respondents have stated
once every 3 months, once every 6 months and once a
year both had been selected by 3 individuals, less than
once a year received 5 and lastly, not at all received 2.
Many production and exhibition companies use the
cinema to exhibit their film as well as promote their film
by releasing a trailer or by advertising the film through
film posters. However, as from these results my
audience do not regularly go to the cinema, I would
have to use different platforms to advertise my trailer.
8. Question 7
The 7th question stated ‘Which of the following
categories best describes your employment
status?’. As you can see from these results the
minority of my respondents are categorised into
the higher socio-economic class within the table
(A, B and C1). On the other hand, you can also
identify that the majority of my audience
members are categorised into the D and E socio-
economic class. Due to the results I have
received on this question, this will allow me to
when creating costumes and casting characters
for roles to fulfil, target my target audience by
including characters who have the same socio-
economic background allowing the audience to
receive the pleasure of identifying with a
character.
9. Question 8
The next question states ‘Which
psychographic category best describes
you?’. This question was included to
understand the psychographics of my
target audience. From these results, you
can see that the main answers which had
been selected was explorer and
succeeder.
After conducting this research, this will
allow me to develop several products
which will meet consumer needs and
desires according to their preferences.
10. Question 9
‘Which media platform do you mainly use to
access a film trailer?’. The use of this question in
my questionnaire has allowed me to know how my
audience views a trailer. As I am in the process of
creating my own film trailer, knowing how my
audience gains access to a trailer is extremely
important.
As you can see from these results, the may way in
which my audience gains access to a film trailer is
through the internet, followed by the television and
then the radio.
Due to the results of this this question, this has
allowed me to identify the main media platform
that I will use to promote my film. Using the
internet will ensure that I will gain a large audience
for my film.
11. Question 10
And lastly, ‘What do you like most about
thriller trailers?’. This is an extremely
important question which will benefit me in
the creation of my film trailer. From this
questionnaire, the 5 main features my
audience likes most about thriller trailers
are lighting, characters, music, cliff hanger
and also blood and/or death.
From these findings, this will allow me to
identify the main things that should be
included in my film trailer. I will ensure that
I include low key lighting, characters who
the audience will identify with, music that
will be beneficial to the thriller genre, cliff
hanger which will be included towards the
end of my trailer.
