1. Page no. 5 My dear fellow Reliance Capital Shareowners, I am delighted to welcome each one of you to this 24 th Annual General Meeting of our Company. Beginning from this AGM, we have decided to introduce a new approach and format for our interaction. I will start this interaction with an overview of the Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group, which will briefly touch upon our achievements in the short span of just 4 years since the effective re-organization of the Reliance Group in 2006. I will then deal with key highlights of the company, in this case, Reliance Capital. This will be followed by a detailed, audio-visual presentation on the business by leaders of the company. At the end of this presentation, I will address your questions before concluding with my closing remarks. As many of you are already aware, our Group is by far the youngest of all large business houses in India, but we already rank among the top 5 on every important financial and operating parameter. Across different businesses of our Group, we touch the lives of over 23 crore customers every single day. We enjoy the trust of over 1 crore shareowners across the Group - the largest such family anywhere in the world. This has allowed us to truly capture the essential philosophy of our founding-chairman, the legendary Dhirubhai Ambani, who believed that an entrepreneur’s dharma or duty is not just to create wealth but to also share it with investors. We are among the largest employers in the country, with a young, highly qualified and dedicated team of nearly 1,20,000 women and men, and an average age of under 30 years. In a short span of just 4 years, our group market capitalization has risen to over Rs 1,25,000 crore, ranking us amongst the top 4 business houses in India. E s t e l a r

Page no. 5 While the advanced economies grapple with soaring deficits, sustained high unemployment, and faltering growth in the aftermath of the global financial meltdown of 2008, the Indian economy has shown great resilience and strength. With a revised growth target of 9 percent or more for FY 2010, it remains the second fastest growing large economy in the world for the 4th year running. This year’s record monsoon will inject further momentum into the economy, on the back of higher agricultural output. The longer-term Indian growth story looks even better. Over the last few years, the savings rate in India has steadily climbed to 35 per cent, freeing up over Rs 21 lakh crore worth of surplus for investment every year. In part, this shift mirrors a new demographic reality. Even as the rest of the world finds itself ageing, India is getting younger. With nearly 700 crore people or 60 per cent of the population below the age of 35, we are now the youngest nation in the world. India’s young are driving a new virtuous cycle of savings, consumption and investment that is likely to last for a long time to come. We stand at the threshold of a New Economic Era, where double-digit growth will be the norm rather than the exception. A strong, vibrant economy needs a sound and efficient financial system. Our financial institutions and markets must become truly inclusive so that they reach out to ordinary men and women and help them achieve their financial goals. In common with many other sectors of the economy, there is much to be done here. India is a country of over 6 lakh villages but our largest bank has only 14,000 branches. In fact, the ATMs of all banks taken together do not cross the 6-lakh number. In our country of a billion plus people, a mere 1.5 crore people have mutual fund investments, while a 3rd or 50 lakh hold demat accounts. E s t e l a r

5. Page no. 5 We aim to create, in a phased manner, an asset base of over Rs. 50,000 crore in the next 3 to 5 years. The Reserve Bank of India has recently come out with a discussion paper, containing revised guidelines for the grant of a banking license. These guidelines outline a number of different licensing options for a company such as ours, namely, conversion, promotion or acquisition. We have always regarded banking as a high-priority sector with huge potential opportunity, and are evaluating the different options contained in the guidelines.
