3. WHAT IS GANT CHART?
⢠Horizontal bar devoloped
as a production control
tool in 1917 by Henry L.
Gantt.
⢠Provides a graphical
illustration of a schedule
that helps to plan.
4. GANT CHARTâS FEATURES
⢠It is comprised of
horizontal and vertical
axis.
⢠Bars show the starting
and ending time.
⢠The difference first and
last point gives activityâs
time.
5. SHORTCOMÄ°NGS OF GANT CHART
⢠Relationship
⢠Control activities
⢠Logical connections
⢠Activities can not be
changed in implementation
period.

7. WHAT IS CPM?
⢠In 1957, CPM was developed
by Kelly and Walker to assist
in building and maintenance
of chemical plants.
⢠CPM is used to plan the
scheduling of individual
activities that make up a
project.
8. WHAT IS THE CPM NETWORK?
⢠The arcs represent the
activities.
⢠Nodes represent the start and
end of the activities.
⢠An activity carries arrow
symbol.
9. Determining The Critical Path
⢠Earliest Start Time (ES) = the maximum of the
earliest finish times of all activities immediately
preceding activity i. (This is 0 for an activity with no
predecessors).
⢠Earliest Finish Time (EF) = (Earliest Start Time) + (Time to
complete activity i.). This represent the earliest time at
which an activity can end.
⢠Latest Finish Time (LF) = the minimum of the latest start times
beginning at node j. This is the latest time an activity can end
without delaying the entire project.
⢠Latest Start Time (LS) = (Latest Finish Time) - (Time to complete
activity (i,j)). This is the latest time an activity can begin without
delaying the entire project.
10. Calculating The Slack Time
Slack = (Latest Start) - (Earliest Start),
or
= (Latest Finish) - (Earliest Finish).
⢠Critical path is consisting with zero slack.
