2. INTRODUCTION
Dolphins are marine mamals closely related to whales and porpoises . There are almost
forty species of dolphins.. Dolphins are among the intelligent animals, and their often friendly
appearance and seemingly playful attitude have made them popular in human culture.
3. PHYSICAL FEATURES
• They have a pointy snout that makes them look like they are smiling.
• They are carnivores.
• Dolphins have a blowhole at the top of their heads that they use to breathe.
• They have upper and lower jaws with small teeth.
• Dolphins have a dorsal fin which keeps them steady while they are swimming and
two tail flukes for moving up and down.
4. HABITAT
Dolphins are found all over the world; generally in shallow
cold waters as well as the warm tropical waters
6. BEHAVIOR
They eat between six and fifteen
kg. of food per day. They swallow
their food whole even though they
have so many teeth. When bottlenose
dolphins are red to eat, they send
out a scout to find the food.
When dolphins are looking for a mate,
it’s usually the female who looks for
the male.
7. Fin shape: a dolphin’s tail goes up and down to help it dive up to get air.
Dolphins have blubber, or fat, wich provides insulation, helping the dolphin
stay warm in cold water.
The long nose helps the dolphin to kill sharks.
Their colors are different so the dolphin can fool his predators.
