Background Note:
Nepal Dairy Pvt. Ltd. was established in 1980 by a group of entrepreneurs. It started as a cottage
dairy in the busy Mahaboudha Street. It operated its business in a modest way with yogurt in a
clay pots. Since its inception, Nepal Dairy has been growing steadily and broadening the
customer base. Today, Nepal Dairy is growing faster than ever anticipated with its acronym nd's.
Nepal Dairy today has been making the finest quality Dairy Products. It has been enjoying a
well-established reputation of "The Cream of Dairy". What appreciates Nepal Dairy is her skill
in diversification to various dairy based products according to the consumers' taste like Pizzas,
cakes, pastries, sweets and fast foods. Nepal Dairy has dedicated its business to the rural milk
producers and urban milk consumers of Kathmandu. Nepal Dairy safeguards the interest of the
rural milk producers by providing highly competitive price. Nepal Dairy is committed to
providing the highest quality product to you at the most reasonable cost.
ND means more than just milk, "it means being a leader in innovation and quality and is firmly
committed to continously adopting world class standards in the processing of quality dairy
products". ND is firmly committed to be the market leader in processing and distribution of of
dairy products in Nepal. With such commitment its no wonder that ND has become "Everybody's
Favourite"
Over the years the number of milk producers has risen from around 40 to 500 today, this has
been in the main due to higher demand of nd's product in the market place. In fact today the milk
is largely produced from the same pastures as it was in the beginning. Milk collector farmers
today bring milk as far as 270 km in the rougged terain.
Nepal Dairy focuses on investments in dairy and food industry, two of the largest, most rapidly-
growing markets of the national economy.
Nepal Dairy Today
Nepal Dairy has been making the finest quality dairy and milk based food products. Ever since
its inception it has been enjoying the consumer's preference & priority of choice. Based on the
established reputation, consumers today call Nepal Dairy - "The cream of Dairy".
A highly skilled, dedicated, and experienced team use their expertise to make these products
unique. Quality milk from the village farmers is collected to cater the demands of fluid milk,
yogurt, cream, butter, ice cream, and cheese of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, while nd's
uses them as their raw material to diversify into milk based food product in the form of bakery,
fast food, and other products of valued added consumers choices.
Nepal Dairy has diversified its skill and expertise into various dairy based products of upcoming
consumers' interest like pizzas, cakes, pastries, veg. & paneer momo, sweets, and fast foods and
reaching the customers through its own service centers and various other outlets in the country.
Nepal Dairy’s Business Model
Dairy supply chains are complex and markets are dynamic. Margins are tight and customers are
demanding. This reality challenges the management team to balance the supply chain, raw
material intake and production facilities. ND makes quick and right decisions for a more efficient
operation, revenue growth and optimum profit margin. Nepal Dairy Pvt. Ltd. focus its business
model to be the industry leader by producing and marketing of a variety of milk products with
assured quality at an affordable price.
Activities under the sister organization
NDITM (Nepal Dairy Institute of Technology and Management) has emerged as a sister
organization of Nepal Dairy Pvt. Ltd as a result of its experience of successful business operation
for 25 years. The main objective of NDITM is to provide training on technology and
management to the academic graduates and other assistant level candidates aspiring to join the
industries as professionals or initiate one's own business in the areas of dairy, livestock, food
industries, etc.
NDITM is also intended to work with academic institutions like Kathmandu University,
Tribhuvan University, and other academic institutions to supplement their academic study for
graduates with in-plant practical training courses.
Main Objectives:
To create a common platform of national and international professionals on dairy and food
processing with a view to:
technology transfer from the senior professionals to younger generation.
technology appropriate in the context of Nepal.
food and dairy based professional jobs, occupations, enterprises with an ultimate aim to
alleviate poverty.
Scope of Activities
The scope of activities of NDITM is envisaged as follows:
i. developing and conducting systematic in-plant practical training in such fields as dairy,
food and livestock industries for academic as well as non-academic pursuits
ii. pooling together knowledgeable experts of respective fields to generate and disseminate
new technologies
iii. conducting market oriented research studies regularly
iv. developing and transferring allied management skills related to different technologies
v. entering into contracts with Government, Universities and private sector for undertaking
conduct of training programs to meet their requirements
Strategy Adopted by Nepal Dairy
Diversification of its business towards bakery and fast food and make dairy product as a
raw materials for those industry.
Add more value to dairy products for more profit margins.
Extend the life of the products.
Focus on investing on information technology to keep track of R&D, scheduling,
accounting and customer information. Management makes decisions based on its system
that provides real time visibility on trading partners across your supply chain and raw
material intake.

generation.
Specialization and professionalization in the product processing, manufacturing,
packaging, and in marketing of the products.
Updating on information technology to keep track of R&D, scheduling, accounting, and
customer information.
Improvement in production efficiency, reducing leakages, wastages, and other
operational costs.
Development of backward linkages to the production sites, generating opportunities and
income to the farmers and forward linkages from production centers, creating service
facilities to the consumers at various locations of Nepal.
