1. MOVING THE LIBRARY TO THE
MAIN STREET AREA IS
A WIN-WIN-WIN FOR
LAUREL-AREA CITIZENS
MAIN STREET MERCHANTS
RESIDENTS OF THE GROVE AREA
A REVITALIZED MAIN STREET
A library in the Main Street area would revitalize the
area by bringing visitors and shoppers. It would lead to
new shops and restaurants. Increased economic activity
means increased revenues for the city.
A PLACE TO SHOP,VISIT AND WALK
People could park and WALK to the library, shops,
restaurants and entertainment. The current library
location is a pedestrian and shopping dead zone.
Rt. 198 is a major thoroughfare, pedestrian unfriendly,
and 7th/216 is very busy.
EASY TO GET TO
The Main Street Area is easily accessible from 95, 216,
198, Rt 1 and Main Street. Only 3 minutes, and less
than 1 mile from the current site. It is on FIVE bus
lines. The current library is only on 2. Public transporta-
tion means better access for Seniors, those without cars
or who are unable to drive.
RIVERFRONT PARK
The new library will be next to Riverfront Park and a
great place for library patrons to read, picnic, and walk.
Riverfront Park near the Library will be an added
attraction for people to visit.
PARKING
There would be ample site and on-street parking.
WHAT ABOUT THE GROVE COMMUNITY AND
EMANCIPATION PARK?
This is one of Laurel’s most historic areas, and should
be preserved. When the new library is built the former
library would be an excellent educational and heritage
resource center addition for the Emancipation Park site.
