Contour line drawing involves perceiving and drawing just the edges of an object without indicating values or shades. There are different techniques for contour line drawing, including continuous line where the pen is not lifted from the paper to draw all the edges of an object, and cross contour lines which indicate the volume of an object through lines along with the edges. As homework, students are asked to complete contour line drawings on two sheets broken into boxes, using a dip pen to draw a variety of views in each box, including a drawing of a hand holding a half peeled orange.
