5. Short Overview
The Syrian Conflict refers to violence occurring in the
country Syria, the relationship that neighboring countries
play in the violence within Syria, and rebels forces that
continually push against government’s military. Multiple
outside nations are involved in the Syria conflict,
potentially trying to influence the country without
“getting their hands dirty”. The likelihood of the Syrian
conflict ending soon is not very probable. The increase in
violence and the crackdown of governmental protesters is
astounding. Tension in the governmental system and with
the rebels creates a hostile environment with mass killing.

38. Religions in Syria
The Alawites religion is the current governmental power. Not only do the Alawites represent a government,
but they are also a religion. In the United States religion has never been paired with politics.
In Syria, religion defines the government and the ideas that the government has.
Similar to the beginning of any other country, religion has always played a large role in Syria history.
Religion will also continue to play a large role in years to come regarding the Syrian conflict.

Some key factors that define the alawite religion are as followed. The Alawite religion can be traced back to Muhammad Ib Nusair who died around 900. The Alawite religion stemmed from his teaching. The religion of the Alawites split from Ismailism, the Shiite cult of Islam. The Alawites were named after Ali, a relative to Muhammad. Doctrines, of the religion were not written. The Alawite religion has remained secret even to this day. This religion does not even have mosques, but devotional rooms. Alawites have a disapproval of Islamic duties and are sometime forced to carry out these duties to avoid persecution. These are just six factors that form the Alawite religion.
