In this chapter we review the basic rules and recommendations for writing quality program code. We pay attention to naming the identifiers in the program (variables, methods, parameters, classes, etc.), formatting and code organization rules, good practices for composing methods, and principles for writing quality documentation. We describe the official "Design Guidelines for Developing Class Libraries for .NET" from Microsoft. In the meantime we explain how the programming environment can automate operations such as code formatting and refactoring. This chapter is a kind of continuation of the previous one – “Object-Oriented Programming Principles”. The reader is expected to be familiar with the basic OOP principles: abstraction, inheritance, polymorphism, encapsulation and exception handling. Those do greatly affect the quality of the code.

The Roslyn project is the next generation of C# and VB compilers but paradoxically it is not interesting because of the new features that will come into the next versions of the languages. Microsoft opened the compiler APIs publicly allowing the developers to create programs and tools which takes advantage of the syntactic and semantical analysis of the code. During the session we will see how the developer can use the compiler APIs to format the sources, compile or understand the code even when it still contains errors. One of the most interesting uses of these APIs is the creation of semantic rules to enforce at compile time like, for example, guidelines or even static business rules.

The Statistical debugging technique sketch out the program’s source code to gather data flow, program flows, program state trace information and then perform the statistical analysis on collected information to figure out the bug traces. Instrumentation is a process of predicates insertion with in the source code. Analysis of instrumented code will provide the visualization of buggy areas with in the source code. The aim of this study is to investigate existing statistical debugging techniques for programs coded in modern dynamic programming languages like Ruby.

This document advertises the PVS-Studio static analyzer. It describes how using PVS-Studio reduces the number of errors in code of C/C++/C++11 projects and costs on code testing, debugging and maintenance. A lot of examples of errors are cited found by the analyzer in various Open-Source projects. The document describes PVS-Studio at the time of version 4.38 on October 12-th, 2011, and therefore does not describe the capabilities of the tool in the next versions. To learn about new capabilities, visit the product's site <a>http://www.viva64.com</a> or search for an updated version of this article.

Basic object oriented programming with types

ahad nadeem
OOPs The prime purpose of C++ programming was to add object orientation to the C programming language, which is in itself one of the most powerful programming languages. The core of the pure object-oriented programming is to create an object, in code, that has certain properties and methods. While designing C++ modules, we try to see whole world in the form of objects. For example a car is an object which has certain properties such as color, number of doors, and the like. It also has certain methods such as accelerate, brake, and so on. There are a few principle concepts that form the foundation of object-oriented programming: Object This is the basic unit of object oriented programming. That is both data and function that operate on data are bundled as a unit called as object. Class When you define a class, you define a blueprint for an object. This doesn't actually define any data, but it does define what the class name means, that is, what an object of the class will consist of and what operations can be performed on such an object. Abstraction Data abstraction refers to, providing only essential information to the outside world and hiding their background details, i.e., to represent the needed information in program without presenting the details. For example, a database system hides certain details of how data is stored and created and maintained. Similar way, C++ classes provides different methods to the outside world without giving internal detail about those methods and data. Encapsulation Encapsulation is placing the data and the functions that work on that data in the same place. While working with procedural languages, it is not always clear which functions work on which variables but object-oriented programming provides you framework to place the data and the relevant functions together in the same object. Inheritance One of the most useful aspects of object-oriented programming is code reusability. As the name suggests Inheritance is the process of forming a new class from an existing class that is from the existing class called as base class, new class is formed called as derived class. This is a very important concept of object-oriented programming since this feature helps to reduce the code size. Polymorphism The ability to use an operator or function in different ways in other words giving different meaning or functions to the operators or functions is called polymorphism. Poly refers to many. That is a single function or an operator functioning in many ways different upon the usage is called polymorphism. Overloading The concept of overloading is also a branch of polymorphism. When the exiting operator or function is made to operate on new data type, it is said to be overloaded.

ABSTRACT We need ways to improve the code quality. Programmers have different level of tenure and experience. Standard and programming languages change and we are forced to re-use legacy code with minimum revision. Programmers develop their habits and can be slow to incorporate new technologies to simplify the code or improve the performance. We rolled out our customized code review and pair programming process to address these issues. The paper discusses the about the improvement of mandatory code review and pair programming practiced inthe commercial software development, and also proposes effective approaches to customize the code review and pair programming to avoid the pitfalls and keep the benefits

Sara Mae O’Brien Scott and Tatiana Baquero Cakici, Senior Consultants at Enterprise Knowledge (EK), presented “AI Fast Track to Search-Focused AI Solutions” at the Information Architecture Conference (IAC24) that took place on April 11, 2024 in Seattle, WA. In their presentation, O’Brien-Scott and Cakici focused on what Enterprise AI is, why it is important, and what it takes to empower organizations to get started on a search-based AI journey and stay on track. The presentation explored the complexities of enterprise search challenges and how IA principles can be leveraged to provide AI solutions through the use of a semantic layer. O’Brien-Scott and Cakici showcased a case study where a taxonomy, an ontology, and a knowledge graph were used to structure content at a healthcare workforce solutions organization, providing personalized content recommendations and increasing content findability. In this session, participants gained insights about the following: Most common types of AI categories and use cases; Recommended steps to design and implement taxonomies and ontologies, ensuring they evolve effectively and support the organization’s search objectives; Taxonomy and ontology design considerations and best practices; Real-world AI applications that illustrated the value of taxonomies, ontologies, and knowledge graphs; and Tools, roles, and skills to design and implement AI-powered search solutions.

The term "artificial intelligence" was first coined by John McCarthy in 1956 to describe efforts to develop computer programs capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence. This concept was first introduced at a conference held at Dartmouth College, where programs demonstrated capabilities such as playing chess, proving theorems, and interpreting texts. In the early stages, Alan Turing contributed to the field by defining intelligence as the ability of a being to respond to certain questions intelligently, proposing what is now known as the Turing Test to evaluate the presence of intelligent behavior in machines. As the decades progressed, AI evolved significantly. The 1980s focused on machine learning, teaching computers to learn from data, leading to the development of models that could improve their performance based on their experiences. The 1990s and 2000s saw further advances in algorithms and computational power, which allowed for more sophisticated data analysis techniques, including data mining. By the 2010s, the proliferation of big data and the refinement of deep learning techniques enabled AI to become mainstream. Notable milestones included the success of Google's AlphaGo and advancements in autonomous vehicles by companies like Tesla and Waymo. A major theme of the presentation is the application of generative AI, which has been used for tasks such as natural language text generation, translation, and question answering. Generative AI uses large datasets to train models that can then produce new, coherent pieces of text or other media. The presentation also discusses the ethical implications and the need for regulation in AI, highlighting issues such as privacy, bias, and the potential for misuse. These concerns have prompted calls for comprehensive regulations to ensure the safe and equitable use of AI technologies. Artificial intelligence has also played a significant role in healthcare, particularly highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic, where it was used in drug discovery, vaccine development, and analyzing the spread of the virus. The capabilities of AI in healthcare are vast, ranging from medical diagnostics to personalized medicine, demonstrating the technology's potential to revolutionize fields beyond just technical or consumer applications. In conclusion, AI continues to be a rapidly evolving field with significant implications for various aspects of society. The development from theoretical concepts to real-world applications illustrates both the potential benefits and the challenges that come with integrating advanced technologies into everyday life. The ongoing discussion about AI ethics and regulation underscores the importance of managing these technologies responsibly to maximize their their benefits while minimizing potential harms.

Microsoft's Threat Matrix for Kubernetes helps organizations understand the attack surface a Kubernetes deployment introduces to their environments. This ensures that adequate detections and mitigations are in place. By covering over 40 different attacker techniques, defenders can learn about Kubernetes-specific mitigations and controls to deploy to their environments. In this session, we will explore the MS-TA9013 Host Path Mount technique, which is commonly used by attackers to perform privilege escalation in a Kubernetes cluster. Attendees will learn how attackers and defenders can: * Escape the container's host volume mount to gain persistence on an underlying node * Move laterally from the underlying node into the customer's cloud environment * Analyze Kubernetes audit logs to detect pods deployed with a hostPath mount * Deploy an admission controller that prevents new pods from using a hostPath mount
