5. The Asian Games is the most prestigious event of Asia organised by the
Olympic Council of Asia .
The Asian Games are held every four years, with the 17th edition held in
Incheon, South Korea this year.
The inaugural Asian Games took place in New Delhi, India, in
1951 with 11 countries competing in six sports. Whereas the
16th Asian Games held in China, in 2010 featured 45
countries and regions competing in 42 sports,
highlighting the growth of the Olympic Movement in Asia
The games reflect the diverse sporting culture of the continent such as
sepaktakraw (South East Asia), kabaddi (South Asia) and
wushu (East Asia).

korea’s Jina Park, Indian boxer L Sarita Devi stunned
officials and spectators by refusing to accept the bronze
medal, which was then in the custody of organizers.
“Not one Indian official came to us and consoled or even
spoke to us ”, said sarita in agony
According to Amateur International Boxing Association
rules, returning medal counts as serious indiscipline and
she has been given a serious warning on not to repeat it
again .
Later she had to accept her bronze medal.

a Mongolian boxer lost to a South Korean despite
appearing to be the better boxer of the two. NDTV's
Suprita Das reported that a few water bottles were
thrown at the Korean boxer after their bout by the
